Great set up to the first series finale
snoozejonc17 January 2021
One of Elizabeth's sources supplies information about US missile defence and sets up a meeting with a high level military commander.

I enjoyed this one for the way increases the level of excitement to set up the series 1 finale and how it brings some of the show's themes to the forefront.

Trust and loyalty have been a big part of the series and in the episode we see pretty much how every character behaves in a number of situations associated with both. As an audience we know all these characters secrets and it makes the plot both compelling and ironic at times. I can't say much more without spoilers only that this one feels like it starting to edge the overarching series narrative forward a bit more than other episodes have done.

All performances are excellent, whilst the cinematography and editing keeps things very intriguing throughout.

For me it's an 8.5/10 so I round upwards.

Best episode this season!

Warning: Spoilers
The Oath is the best episode this season. The first question for the series is : will the K G B spies be caught in a sting operation or is the military colonel real? Will the F B I agent be played by his Russian lover? The double lives part of the show was accentuated by one spy playing a F B I husband while his fake wife plays the spy's sister. The marriage oath, fake family is all a sham for the KGB spies, just like his second fake family. Do they know who they really are? Are they just brainwashed fanatics? Can they return to a normal life after their operation? The Oath will divulge that the series is based on lies, counter intelligence, mis-information

"For your recommended daily allowance of SDI"

Warning: Spoilers
(Look up "Brilliant Pebbles" on Wikipedia.)

I can't be the only viewer who screamed in frustration at the end of that episode. Nina is smart, Martha is dumb, and Caspar Weinberger's maid doesn't want to burn in hell. Stan demonstrates how he is too close to the trees to see the forest of Elizabeths on the projector screen.

Will Nina be sent home to be executed, or will she get a chance to take revenge on Stan for Vlad? Will Martha see the sketch of Phillip and recognise her new husband? Is another agency, maybe defense intelligence, behind the SDI microfilm?

The dominos are falling, and our antiheroes the Jennings are at the end of the row. Now that they're finally looking in the same relationship direction, just like we always wanted, they're lined up as targets of circumstance and coincidence.

One episode left. How can the writers tie up all the plot lines and still leave enough for another season?

I can't wait to find out!
