Vera's given the runaround, good episode.

Homeless, ex serviceman Con is brutally battered and left on The Streets, Vera faces a wall of silence when trying to find the killer.

I really did enjoy this episode, a very interesting story, and one which felt very relevant for the current time, with the country in the mess it's in, and ex servicemen ending up on The Streets, it had quite a significance. I thought the pacing of this one was very good.

A very strong opening, you really got to see life from Con's point of view, it really does give the character some relevance, meaning that the events that follow have more significance.

A few nice touches of humour, I love the way she went around pinching people's food and drinks.

I really liked the variety of characters, and as always there was some fine acting. As did the new character, Doctor Bennett, I thought she made a really strong start, a tough cookie, one who wasn't afraid to mix it up with Vera.

8/10.

For the Grace of God

Conn Burns is a former soldier found dead at the quayside by a hen party. New police surgeon, Doctor Bennett believes that Conn was battered and then later on someone else came and killed him by suffocating him.

Conn was a regular visitor to a homeless shelter, an ex alcoholic with PTSD issues because of his army service in Afghanistan. It seems Conn had turned his life around.

Vera discovers that Conn had once been married and had a daughter called Bailey, whose named was tattooed to his body.

Yet Conn had listed is sister, a nun as his next of kin. His estranged wife had never divorced him even though she was now living with another woman.

The episode is framed as a morality tale. Conn has been helping people in trouble and been repelled by those who took advantage of others.

I have said that the recent run of Vera has been formulaic. So it was not a surprise that I guessed the murderer very early on.

Still the writer of this episode certainly detests oily estate agents.

DNA

Warning: Spoilers
It started of as another good and intriging Vera episode. Three kinds of DNA was found telling who the killer would be. Soon there turned up to many suspects who where all found out of being guilty of some kind of crime but not the murder. The two men who arrested for the assault matched the DNA found at the crimescene. The search for continued looking for men and women as the possible culprit. Which makes no sense at all. Because they had the third DNA they would KNOW that the murderer was FEMALE. Immediatly pointing at the new girlfriend of the victim's wife and making het the suspect number one. If the wife did have a boyfriend the story would be better. Now the story is a casualty of the gender politics. Sadly..
