Where has this been all of my life?
psunkel-wa20 October 2018
I have been known as a bacon fiend for many years...I love the show...I'm praying that Todd doesn't have heart disease...would hate it to be his demise.

One question I have...what do the restaurants do with their bacon fat? O...M...G...I never waste that! It's the perfect frying oil for so many food recipes I have.

Would it make me a bad person if I'd laugh when Todd Fisher reaches for his chest and keels over during a live-broadcast?

Warning: Spoilers
Sure, I do like my bacon as much as the next man. What would an omelet be without a decent serving? Real chowder would be a mere soup without the tasty pork-product and Spaghetti Carbonara without a generous portion of bacon would only be noodles with salt, pepper and cheese.

However, in "US of Bacon" the concept of the show got old very fast. Call me a snobby European, but I believe there's a limit to everything. Even Bacon. Many fine food-shows have crossed my TV-screen and "inspired" me more than I care to measure on the scale. But in the end of the day, having watched a few episodes of "US of Bacon", what do you have left? Well, an obese guy stuffing his face with bacon.

Which brings me to my main complaint about the show: Like them or not, shows like "Bizarre Foods", "No Reservations" or "Kitchen Nightmares" live not only through exotic foods and locations, but through charismatic presenters like Andrew Zimmern, Gordon Ramsay or Anthony Bourdain. "US of Bacon" is lacking that. "You are what you eat", goes the old saying. No truer than in the case of Todd Fisher, but I'd also put my money that there's something distinctly simian in his family-tree. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against obese TV-presenters (I live in Europe and rarely get to see any other than on TV), but in my mind, a food-show is supposed to enhance ones appetite for the shown products, not put them off. But even if Fisher looked like he could cross a room without huffing and puffing like a beached whale (or reaching his belt without artificial help), is there really a need to confirm every cliché of a knuckle-dragging redneck? Watching one episode with my niece, the girl couldn't help but observe: "Uncle, the man looks like a rear with eyes" (and believe you me, she didn't use the word 'rear').

I don't even want to go into the medical implications. "Thy body be thy temple. Do with it as you please, as long as you don't bother the health-care-system", I believe I once read in some bible. Still, it really doesn't stimulate ones appetite to see a presenter (and generally the people whom he interacts with) that look, like they could turn purple and keel over at any moment. So I'll skip the next episode of "US of Bacon". See, I plan to enjoy my bacon for a long, long time.

Only 3/10 for limited variation.

Cooking, Bacon, Travel, Bacon and more Bacon, bacon ....
cylgn-120 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This show is not Artsy/Smartsy/Ghenty. It is somewhat silly and often entertaining while at times informative with its travel information. Todd Fisher travels and travels these United States visiting restaurants, snack establishments, museums and even individuals obsessed with pork in general and particularly Bacon. I cannot believe how many ways there are to enjoy bacon. Incredibly, Todd presents all of this with a wide vein of humor and includes some very fine recipes. Her is a spoiler alert, bacon tastes great, I have enjoyed every recipe I have tried. My wife agrees. All-in-all, "US of Bacon" is entertaining due to humor, travel bits and an unlikely TV star, Bacon. Todd Fisher does a fine job with an unlikely concept, even overusing the phrase, "I love bacon", to his advantage. Sincerely, and In Christ, Dorien deLusignan

Just to much fat.

Not on the bacon, on Todd. He looks like a walking heart attack. Come on Todd, do yourself a favor, shed some of those pounds. Try and make it to 50 years old.

I'm sure I've seen this before.

Oh wait, yes I have! Man vs Food.

This show seems to be a carbon copy of the show I once really enjoyed. However, what's done is done and trying to mimic previously successful shows is just showing desperation.

Unfortunately the host is quite annoying too. Too "over the top".
