I already know that the History Channel is no longer about History (or anything very factual at all) anymore. I grew up in Alabama, so I was afraid that the show was going to be used to make fun of southern boys. Instead, there appears to be a mix of competence and incompetence among the cast. While it is not much more than a simple drama, there are still things to be learned from the experience of those involved about survival in the uninhabited territories of Guyana.
I do despise the crew leader, Tim Evans. He is NOT a leader and is, in fact, the worst manager I've ever seen attempt to manage or organize such a big project. If he were on The Apprentice, Donald Trump would've fired him in the first episode.
I realize the show isn't meant to be educational, but it has an educational feel, which is extremely confusing/conflicting, but I don't care. The flow of the show works with the narration. After all, those southern accents can be impossible to understand at times!
The History Channel itself made a tragic mistake with whoever they hired to piece the show together. Didn't they stop to think that a lot of people would be angry about Americans sauntering into a foreign country, destroying everything, and stealing the gold of their land?
The whole thing is a disaster, but that's what I like about it. They've also made they mistake of not promoting the show properly. The biggest mistake they could make is not doing a second season and bringing back Chris & Clate. A little tiny bit more order could be just what the doctor ordered for better ratings and more progress in the efforts of the work crew!
