An Average Rib-Tickler!
nairtejas29 March 2013
101 Weddings isn't as grand as it seems to be. The comedy is vibrant and consists of slapstick, but lack of story & illogical plot makes this Shafi entertainer an average flick.

Biju Menon is splendid with his rowdy avatar as he reprises his role as a foul-mouthed con (e.g. Ordinary, Romans, etc), Boban Kunchacko is nice as the lead and is awesome as the romantic dastard who falls for Smavrutha (her last movie before marriage) under inauspicious circumstances. Jayasurya has copied Chaandpottu's Dilip but I won't complain because he was good enough for his role. Sooraj Venjaaramoodu should stop giggling and over-acting with his ridiculously obscene jokes and dramatic play, as I found his scenes were the only ones not watchable. With a main plot point copied from The Shawshank Redemption (1994), 101 Weddings has enough comic scenes, fights and drama to entertain an afternoon family. It surely doesn't doze you off like the seemingly boring Malayalam movies that have come out in recent past.

Direction is good, writing is fresh with the intro of mass-marriage factor and the editing is good, too. Music is soothing and the screenplay just adds to the comedy.

BOTTOM LINE: Overall, 101 Weddings isn't a rocky performance, but yes, it will make you laugh... a little. Rent a DVD or watch it on TV.
