Bridges

Warning: Spoilers
Alden Parker has done a good job fitting into the cast of the show. Usually a show that has been on the air for 20 years, it is upsetting to the core fanbase when a new person shows up or replaces a longtime star, but I think he has filled the shoes of Gibbs quite well. This episode also showed that there can be versatility to the storylines around him as we saw him both use his head and come off as a regular guy at the same time.

Solid episode here. Not one that will have any replay value in the near or long-term future, but a decent episode of NCIS by any measuring stick in the year of 2023.

Tough to Stomach

Ordinarily this would have been an 8 - just like the overall ratings - the story was excellent , the drama was par for the course for this excellent series - however the show runners have left the tracks with the Jessica - Jimmy romance - this is tough to stomach how a kick as agent could fall for the shows comic relief doctor Mickey Mouse - and now they characterize this episode around that romance meaning they are actually serious about continuing this bad joke of a loop. Less we forget - Katrina Law played the kick ass love interest of Spartacus , a kick as warrior of times gone by and she was good in that roll and in Hawaii 5-0 - as she was until hooking up with a wimp in NCIS.

Back of all the heads

What was up with the crappy camera work. Especially at the midpoint in the office with all the BACKS OF THE HEADS and circling around. Then again with the back of monitors. Like the show but this episode was so badly shot in the middle it totally ruined my engagement in the storyline.

Many other parts of this episode was fine but then it was ruined by the bad angles and spinning each time they go back to the office. Dizzy and random directions was bizarre.

I did like the story of hacking lower websites to learn reset answers to then work up to more important sites and create a fake identification.

A bit forgettable!

Warning: Spoilers
Chad Gomez Creasey, the writer of this episode, has only written two "NCIS" episodes so far. I didn't like "Leave No Trace" that much, because the story felt like filler. "Bridges" is a better episode. It's not great, but miles better than some of the lesser episodes of this season.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great as usual. "Bridges" is well-directed (personally didn't have any problem with the camera angles) and the music fits the scenery. The acting's good. Do agree that Gary Cole has set in pretty well in "NCIS", Cole is very good here.

. The mystery does occasionally intrigue (the spy angle was compelling enough), there are some emotional scenes here and there.

But...

. Do agree too: the relationship between Palmer and Knight isn't that interesting at the end of the day. Feel like they have spent too much time talking about it. The dialogue is not always spot on, some of the humor does not land. Parts of the story feel like they have been done in other "NCIS" episodes. The ending got a bit disjointed for me.

Overall, an ok episode.

5/10 HK.
