John just do better! Terrible acting and the movie deserves so much more!
mandrewg8 July 2023
My mother wanted this movie because of the preview of it but the lighting, acting and just the overall movie was terrible! It's as if someone recorded this with a cell phone! We expected so much more. Just pay the producers and get a good studio to make your movies. The last 3 movies you have done have all been terrible. They just don't look good and the terrible music while talking is just bad.. if you can't hear the actors when they talk that is a problem. You play the music so loud you just can't hear what's going on°° professional like John should know this!!! This movie is horrible, and it's the same thing over and over with someone knocking on the door and the same lines....come on you can do so much better!

Filming of the movie was not well done
nic127-713-40210427 February 2023
The cameraman and the angle used on the actors was very amateur! To many close ups on the face. The camera should have backed away some and taken longer shots! Although the storyline was wonderful, I did not feel the patriotism that the director was trying to portray. The story jumped around a lot and did not allow for the intended build up. The relationship with the two main characters, was not enough tension to make you feel or understand his passion for what he was fighting for. The setting and location also were also poorly chosen. I was so excited about this movie, but it fell short of expectations.

I SO wanted to like this.

Warning: Spoilers
John, what were you thinking? This movie, while I agree your heart was in the right place while making it, is terrible.

The script is hammy at best; your cameramen have NO idea what they're doing. The sound is tinny, loud, and just bad.

Your character is such an unapologetic dick, and though I get the idea behind why he's acting this way, it's WAY over the top. Taunting the neighbor across the street about being an indigenous American, tossing the woman out the back door like he's ashamed?

And all the angst and hand wringing about the flag is just stupid. I know there are those who get cranky about patriots displaying our flag, but the overreaction of these people is extreme to the point of comical.

I don't regret purchasing this movie because I know John is trying to do good work with the proceeds, but holy hell, couldn't he have at least had a good script? I'd allow for all the other flaws if the story wasn't so over the top ham handed. It's like toddlers slapped it together.

Sorry John, I don't feel good about this, hence me giving you 4 stars instead of the 1 or 2 it really deserves.

Beyond stupid
dementeddrcarte15 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A weird alcoholic that obsesses over the American flag likes to drunkenly drive around a school while blasting music and hoisting a flag, refuses to stop doing that, the movie posits that makes him a heroic figure.

I am not kidding that is the plot, he thinks he should be able to (while inebriated presumably) drive around a school. His character and this movie refuse to see why that is and should not be allowed, even if we allow he is sober while driving he would be an unacceptable distraction and need to leave. Not one person in the writing process could see this character is just a worthless piece of garbage?

This should have been stopped way before it hit filming.

Hot Mess
thelincs-5576412 August 2023
I don't know where to begin. The family settled in to watch what we thought would be a patriotic movie by a good actor.

I like John Schneider, but this debacle is a hot mess.

How could he even approve of what ended up on this dvd? I expected 1000% more.

This looks like a high school student's first video project, who doesn't know anything about sound, editing or storytelling.

The sound is awful. High, then low, then as if in a tin can. Thought there was a flaw on my dvd.

The opening video keeps dropping out. Again, I thought there might be a dvd issue. But no. This was edited deliberately like this.

Why?

You're so talented.

Why all the horrid acting?

Why the horrible editing ?

Why all of the horrendous chroma key? This is the worst use of chroma key I've read seen, At one point I see the fabric wrinkles in the chroma key fabric.

I work in TV and could have done it all in Premiere Pro 100% better.

I could direct it better and find better supporting roles.

And you couldn't get a location?

How? I book them for local productions all the time and they aren't expensive.

This story doesn't make you feel for the character because this isn't worth caring about. It's just a train wreck.

Seriously the worst movie I've ever watched.

Again, why? You have starred in so much. You're a great actor. You know what a good film is.

I really like you, but this was just a disaster.

Absolutely awful
krillin-5450518 July 2023
From the generation of "get off my lawn" brings you 2 hours of MAGA talking points that liberals hate America and the youth is trash. This may be one of the most poorly shot, edited and sound captured movies in existence. I've seen HS students create better quality of work. Please also try to ignore the terrible constant back and forth of poorly white balanced scenes with absolutely horrible dialogue. If John really did finance this movie with everything he had, he probably should probably sell the camera it was shot on because the movie isn't going to regain that fortune. At one point the Native American bashing is so bad that my ancestors almost came back to slap me in the face for even turning it on.

Warning: Spoilers
They could even get SAG actors involved. They had to get convicted con artists, people convicted of stealing I. P.s, and people who have never even been on set before. There's low budget movies. There's badly written movies. There's propaganda films. Then there's this, which is all 3 in one. Then the acting. The only actor in this whole movie who has anything beyond what my kids in elementary school plays put on is the kid who takes a knee. Let's say that the director didn't blatantly lie when he said he'd read about this story somewhere and decided to make a movie about it, where did he read it? Penthouse? Some anonymous blog? Not to mention the "hero" of the story is shown as harassing children, threatening children, violating a restraining order, then assaulting minors with a deadly weapon. This just glorifies the idea that if you believe hard enough, the law doesn't apply to you, because you couldn't possibly believe something that's wrong. Over all, if you want to watch this movie, find somewhere to do it for free, because I'd be mad about a quarter I could've used for gun if I'd paid it to see this.

More victim porn for the right
oakwise-6688616 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this horribly filmed, horribly scripted, and horribly acted assault on decency - I ALMOST wanted to ask, 'What happened to John Schneider?'

But then I remember he started his acting career driving around in a car coated with the Southern Rebel Flag, and I realized he's been all-in for this kind of victim-playing for a long, long time.

The scene with a racist old fart tearing up the home of a Native American in an El Camino with an oversized US flag epitomizes everything wrong with who this film was made for.

The only good part of the movie is the ending where the main haracter get to play the ultimate victim when he is killed after shooting a minor over a piece of cloth.

Probably the Worst Movie Ever Made, Even if You Love America Like I Do
BanditTA7916 May 2023
First off, I really love the United States and I can respect everybody's opinion on politics. I prefer to keep political opinions to myself as I feel it will destroy friendships and relationships. While there is the freedom of speech, there is also the freedom of consequence, which this movie shows that just because you love your country, doesn't mean the story or movie itself will be good.

What we have here is possibly the worst patriotic, if not the worst movie ever made. John Schneider's character is very unlikable and commits quite a few crimes that could easily throw him in jail, like driving and tearing up grass on someone else's property or potentially causing damage to city property with a way too tall flag pole hanging off the back of an El Camino. Also why on Earth is everybody forcing him to take down the American flag?! No real town or human being would force someone to take the flag down even if its on their own property.

That's really the tip of the iceberg as the filming, editing, writing and acting is without a doubt the worst I've ever seen. It makes Asylum movies look like a big Hollywood production.

John Schneider, if this is the best you can do, please stop making movies altogether and call it quits. This is just mindboggling and unprofessional. Obviously money is his goal rather than trying to make any effort to make a movie.

Notable Movie
wergod2-119 December 2022
I found the movie to be uplifting. Although it delve into details and I did have a hard time following the plot in some areas. I did take issue with one part of the storyline. I won't go into it here as it would give away a major part of story. Then one small part I couldn't watch...sad. 😪 Overall, though, I really like what the story was about and how we as a country need to realize how much freedom we have and how much of it we are losing of it day by day. Those who died need to be remembered always. As well as respect for those who are serving now in our military. From A Proud American Veteran.

Appalling
pmer13 April 2023
This is dreadful, just deadful. I hope I am sparing you finite time in your life from watching this.

I grew up in the 1970's and John Schneider was a hero of mine in The Dukes of Hazard, and he was decent enough in Smallville. A pleasant looking man, and so I watch what he's in, or at least I used to. WTF is this?!

Is it me or has John pivoted a hard right politically? It's certainly too strong for my tastes and a shame because he's done himself a huge disservice by agreeing to this. The plot, the acting and quality of production are so laughably poor. John Schneider, what has become of you?

Gutted but letting go of your memory now.

John... John... John
virginia674 January 2023
I love John Schneider, he is one of my favorite country singers and a pretty great actor.... But this is AWFUL.. Shameful.... Just sad. He's still a great actor, but this movie is MST3000 material. He can keep the $30 to buy a better green screen. I'd give him the money if I had it, to film it like an actual film. There is so much wrong that it's hard to know where to start... the female cop looks like a hologram.... Every scene is fake shot with a blue screen/green screen.... The sound is terrible... The concept is relevant to today's headlines, but could have been better if the characters weren't all awful people. ... It's just sooooo bad, God love him... It's just bad.

Very Disappointed
davequirk-5126815 February 2023
I was really looking forward to watching this, but can't believe how poorly this was filmed, edited, acted, plotted, and the scenes were unrealistic. I'm still not sure what the message is. I wanted to be pumped up, but have been left flat. It had potential in the trailer, but those were the only memorable parts of the movie. Very disappointed how the story ended. Feel the trailers let me believe I was going to watch a different movie; not this one. I'm a 22 year Navy veteran and also dabble in police work and firearms training. This movie really needed a technical expert(s) in the aforementioned matter. I'm lost for words. Schneider has a lot of work to do to crawl out of this rabbit hole.

Can I just get my money back?

Can I just get my money back ???

This movie is a train wreck. I agree with the message the movie was portraying. But the delivery of the message was a complete turnoff and overshadowed true patriotism. The acting was some of the worst and the filming was so bad I needed Dramamine to watch it. Voices were echoey and hard to understand. The script was poorly written and hard to follow. I think my border collie could write a better script if you bribed him with a milk bone. Honestly, I expected so much better from John Schneider. I was really looking forward to watching this. It was such a let down that I feel like I just waisted my evening when I could have watched Barney instead. My advice, save your money and go out for Pizza.

Would not even give it 10/10 stars if it was a satirical piece
DammitJeordie2 November 2022
I could tell someone the movie would be good if you watched it as a satirical piece, but I would lying, because I can't even laugh at how painfully bad and misguided this film is (...if I can even call it a "film")

Knowing how much money Schneider owns, you would expect him to release a film with better sound and visual effects - no, I feel like my circle of friends created something that looked and sounded more professional when we were in community college, and this was a horror movie shot with iPhones and a few Bluetooth mics hidden under our shirts. Unfortunately the project was never released because we just lost interest (...uh, and one of us had to spend time in jail).

Story-wise, this movie is just flat and dull, and quite the waste of time. If you can push aside the political message the writer is shoving in your face like a towelette covered in feces, there's not a single character who is likable, or even acts in a realistic manner - meaning every "antagonist" is a straw-man created by conservative media. The "drama" isn't exactly drama at all - considering the fact the lead character is a man who will voluntarily die for a starred-and-striped fabric that's just the representation of the country you reside in. Speaking of the lead character, it is obvious the writer has adopted the far-right point of view of forcing nationalism on every citizen that walks on American soil, and the character is just a self-insert. Now I do not have a problem with movie/novel writers who base characters in their books or films off of real-life traits the writer has, (for example, the lead protagonist in a book I'm currently working on was a victim of childhood abuse, and has Autism Spectrum Disorder - like yours truly - and one of the main antagonists is a woman who abuses her position of power - like a teacher I had in year 6 of middle school). However, when it's so painfully obvious the lead character is a All-American-Badass the writer obviously wishes he could be, the story is just - and I hate using this term - Cringey.

If I could say one thing to Schneider: This isn't how patriotism works. To quote the late Jesse Ventura, a man who had actually served his country in Vietnam: "Governments should not mandate patriotism. Governments earn patriotism. Who mandated patriotism? The Germans in the 1930's." (...he is 100% correct, my grandmother who was born and raised in Nazi Germany can confirm that.)

Conclusion: This movie is a waste of time and money, even if you watch it as a joke. Don't make the same mistake I did. Watch "Saving Private Ryan", "Platoon", "Johnny Got His Gun", or "Inglorious Basterds" if you want to watch a film that reminds you to be thankful for the men, women, people who have put their lives on the line for the name of the United States of America; not this propagandist crap.

Schneider is a man who has lived an incredibly privileged life with money and fame and has not seen a single day of struggle - and it's exceptionally ironic he is still a simp for the political party that has recently attempted to shoot down a bill that would aid veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits. 1/10 stars.

Hahahahahaha
pleasenok26 November 2022
This is so unbelievably bad and rote and predictable and downright bad it's really funny. This is easy to dismiss but I predict to die for will be huge on Tubi or one of the streamers as a camp comedy like showgirls or schindlers list. I can't go into too much of the story because no spoilers and also because there is no story really. The patheticness of this movie is what's entertaining but sadly it sets whitemerica back quite a bit. Once this is out on a discount poor man's streamer ior loaded up to YouTube it's worth a look. But don't buy it at these prices. It's not worth much more than your time.

Loved it...!
wayneluxich11 March 2023
As others have mentioned, this movie isn't a multi-million dollar Hollywood production... So yes, it is lacking in some areas... For me. It was the audio and the fact that it isn't subtitled... Other than that, who cares... It was a great movie, with a great message and I highly recommend it...!

Don't listen to all the negative reviews out there... Just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is... It sends a message that we as Americans really need to be paying attention to... Remember, Freedom isn't Free... A lot of people made the ultimate sacrifice for our flag and we as Americans should be doing everything in our power to protect it...! Peace out to you all...!

Brandishing a weapon
nogodnomasters16 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Quint North (John Schneider) is a mentally ill individual with PTSD. He is far right patriot who believes patriotism can only be expressed in the symbols of his choosing. He disparages his Native American neighbor in the worst stereotypes. Then he wonders why he hates him, that is until they sit down and have a beer together, then suddenly his neighbor sees things his way. Quint describes his war tour as being glorious yet is haunted by it. Real Americans only drink black coffee and lattes are evil. He is a believer of conspiracies and questions people if they got that evil poke. He disrupts the school with super patriotism and wonders why he gets a restraining order in this small Louisiana town where no one has a southern accent and the town is filled with bad green screen. He mutters "let's Go Brandon" under his breath and points his gun at people. He drinks and drives all the time, having zero regard for his neighbors. He awaits "the call" by some local militia, apparently for the upcoming civil war where he can shoot his neighbors who are Democrats, especially the teenage pranksters who dislike him. Unlike his cult leader, Quint did apologize for bring rude. He is sexist, hate immigrants, and hates anything made after 1973, including his women. He drives a gas hog El Camino.with a gun on the front seat. Cancer cures kill people more than cancer. The nonsense is endless.

While Quint is supposed to be some kind of John Schneider cult leader, the film was poorly scripted. It lacked realism by creating a constant flow of straw-men. The acting was horrid.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Amazing
jenniferchace7 September 2023
Such an inspiring and heart felt movie! It's a very honest portrayal of our country these days. There isn't alot of posturing or overexaggeration to prove a point. Just plain honest reality. It accurately depicts the division of people by politics, age, society, and fear of being different. It is full of raw emotion. It is full of unapologetic honesty. The characters are relatable. The script is well written and flows well. It was a very enjoyable movie and one I am glad to own. I look forward to watching it again and again. John Schneider is amazing! The supporting cast is phenomenal. I hope we see more work like this in the future.

Dashed Expectations
tinaweaver-8504126 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved the character John S played. The trailers and his patriotic stand had me itching to open the movie before Christmas to preview it. I'm both glad and sad I didn't. I wouldn't have showed it as the main attraction to our celebration.

I believe in the flag, for what it stands for and that it needs to be given more respect. However this movie missed the mark.

There were too many plot lines thrown at the viewer to keep track of and none were adequately resolved.

I wished the writer would have stuck to the main arc of the Vet flying his flag in the face of woke politics. The side note of his PTSD could have been an subplot worked into the story where it caused conflict in issues with his daily life but doesn't overlap the main plot.

The man across the street had a great story arc but the trope was over used. I would have liked him to be a more realistic person with good lines. Sometimes I wondered how he could be so stiff?

There were some good conflict scenes with Quinn and his dog, and the end needed to be more intense. I wanted to cry but there was nothing in the scene to make me. Come on John you made us cry when you were a child actor!

I wish I could give this movie a thumbs up. Honestly I tried but it's not worth the price.

Note:Nest time JS use less green screen or at least make it look real.

Story is good, movie is terribly made
jtowner-170247 October 2023
I just bought this movie and I must say it is a filming disaster. The story is good but it is so low budget it is worse than a b-rated 70's movie. Most of it is filmed with obvious green screen and is misproportioned to the actor in the scene. I've seen better filming from old school adult movies. Dialog is worse than a first year drama class in high school. A lot of the character interaction are not together so it is one actor saying a line and the other actor in the scene is saying their line somewhere else. Everything is painfully mechanical and choppy and there is no sense of flow or even audio consistency.

Great movie worth every penny!
killer_zombie0125 November 2023
It's a great film with a true story in todays life and people need to stop crying about the acting and production, if your a true John Schneider fan you wouldn't complain. Stand up for your country like John is!! We are in a world full of snowflakes, so actually stand up for your country and stop brainwashing our next generation! You can have your own opinion but please stop shoving it down everybody else's throats. We are all adults, start thinking about our children and our grandchildren they won't have a future if you keep being ignorant. So just enjoy the movie, why criticize about the production when it's for what it stands for. AMEN!

Watch it for the message- listen and learn.
dbrown8944114 January 2024
Keep in mind that To Die For was created by a crew who filmed and edited in a small studio without unlimited funding. So, no, it doesn't look or sound like the movies that you are used to. It is far from perfect in composition, but it is still very much watchable.

To Die For has a good storyline that delivers an important message about patriotism, respect, personal rights, and freedom- the freedom that we enjoy that has come at the expense of others' lives.

While Schneider's character in the movie is a bit surly and has some struggles, he tries his best to respect others while he fights for what he believes is right and just.

The message is what matters.
