Blah, blah, blah...skip to the pay off ending

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, so I rated this film a 5 after weighing the pros and cons (My initial number was 3-4). The first maybe hour (at least it seemed that long) is incredibly boring. The dialogue is cringe worthy and not funny. Yes, maybe it is an accurate portrayal of teens and how awful their conversations are but that doesn't mean you need to film an hour of it. This is labeled as a HORROR so I naturally expected some horror. Half way through my boyfriend asked me "are you sure this isn't a teen romance?". I looked at the description again: Horror, Thriller. So I sat through hoping for some epic turn. That turn happened thankfully and I loved what they did with the end. The acting was pretty subpar in the beginning but a few stood out above and a few got better in time. The australians were all decent actors. I especially like the big guy and even said "I like this guy". Just after I spoke his acting went crazily over the top but I honestly got a good laugh at it so I can't complain. All of the acting went pretty over the top and was fun, thrilling, and amusing.

Overall, boring annoying beginning with a surprising pay day at the end. Don't expect anything to put in your collection but definitely worth a rainy day watch.

Not bad first effort.

OK, it was made for pocket money. Basically nobody's being paid. The whole crew are probably amateurs.

So far, so good. But the writing, the acting, and especially the editing reflect these budget values to the overall detriment of the whole. It just doesn't 'flow' like it should. Nothing is glaringly bad or anything, but it's not really very 'good' either. Overall, it has a bit of a 'first year at film school' vibe, which is not actually a bad thing, but more a reminder to manage one's expectations.

Maybe the camera work is a bit too intrusive. Maybe the characters could be more fully developed. Maybe there's a bit of a slow start before the inevitable mayhem ensues, and perhaps a bit too much reliance on teen stereotypes. In fact, some of the teen and racial clichés can become grating, and what's with the appalling "Brit" accent?

Shouldn't we take him to a hospital?

Warning: Spoilers
Three guys and two girls opt to go camping at Sombrio Cove on the west coast of Canada. Here they meet some other campers, one tries to rape Jen (Montanna McNalley) which after 55 minutes we are back to the opening clip, when the film starts to get interesting. Of course if listening to 20-something angst for nearly an hour is entertaining to you, go for it. Not quite as bad as a Taylor Swift song, but this needless filler material to build character was way too long.

Guide: F-word. Attempted rape.

Why is this even on?

Warning: Spoilers
So, I'm listening to this movie play in the background and i'm thinking my bae is watching a comedy. Some people taking a road trip and one dude is just a big horn-ball with a lot of talk of a sexual nature. OK, a little funny. But then I learn the title of the movie. DARK COVE. OK, so this is supposed to be a horror/thriller movie? Where is the suspense? Where is the drama? Why so much character development which isn't really developing anything at all, since the acting is so flat. Interactions between characters is flat. The tone of the movie is flat. Why am I even watching this movie? If anything, for the first 30- 35 minutes the movie is kinda OK for the comic relief. But if you're looking for the horror this films title would suggest, I don't think you'll find it here.

Run for any other movie you can find.... any....

Excruciatingly awful... and I mean AWFUL. A pace and acting skills that would make a high school drama teacher cry, continual and badly placed strings of infantile sex jokes and talking about genitalia, and a cast that looks about as comfortable with each other as my dog is with my vacuum cleaner... all make for an unwatchable film. I also should give the soundtrack a mention - did they pair up the tracks with the movie, or did they just throw in some of their favorite songs when they felt like it? It's all so out of place and incongruous. It would be OK, I suppose, if it were a 10 year-old's project, but I'd really even expect more out of the ten year-old.

I lasted about 15 minutes, about 10 minutes more than I probably should have, but I wanted to at least give it a chance.

RUN - the worst film I've seen in ages.

Entertaining Low Budget Thriller
molsoneh11 August 2016
I was intrigued about this movie after seeing the trailer online. Being a Canadian who has lived in the Vancouver area I noticed the scenery locations seemed familiar and was excited to see a gritty homegrown camping horror flick.

Somewhat to my surprise the movie is more of a thriller with a lot of comedy. In the first half of the film we really get to know the lead characters who come off as very authentic and entertaining. There is almost a Dazed and Confused or Superbad vibe to the movie and there are many very funny moments especially from the character Joey Deezio who almost steals the first half of the movie with his antics.

After an incident with two Australian surfers the movie turns into a tense thriller with many twists and turns which kept me very engaged throughout the film.

Having been made with such a low budget I found Dark Cove to be more entertaining than many high budget studio films released this year which often come of as bland and redundant. Dark Cove seems gritty and fresh compared to many movies out there now and it gives real insight into the Canadian west coast way of life. Would I like to go camping and do mushrooms with the characters in this movie? Absolutely.
