Exciting episode .... but ...
VetteRanger8 April 2023
This series has been up and down, with some interesting episodes alternating with very pedestrian plots which bored me.

I found this episode interesting ... up to a point. That point is when Ian realizes he has to cooperate with himself in three different times because ... I won't quote the reason the writers came up with but it's stupid. I rolled my eyes, looked over at my wife, and she was rolling hers, too.

No one is an expert on "time travel" ... who would be? But we're both ardent sci-fi readers and there isn't a lot of speculation of time travel we haven't encountered. The QL writers are babes in the woods on the subject, and that's obvious.

However, we were glad they wrapped up the arc of Ben's reason to leap, and wrapped up Martinez, despite how flakey even that resolution was.

Overall, we enjoyed the episode. NOW, we hope they devote the next season ... if there is one ... to bringing Sam back home. ;-)

A Sound and Fury Wrapping Things Up
Gislef11 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what was going on, but the episode moved along fast enough and purported to say so many things but that it was hard to come up with any other questions until well after the episode ended.

For instance, wasn't Martinez trying to help Ben in the asylum and battleship episodes? But he wasn't really helping him here.

Who started the nuclear winter? Was it Martinez, or Ben? If the latter, does that mean Martinez failed? And there's still going to be a nuclear winter? That's kind of a downer. How did Martinez and his backers start a nuclear winter initially? But if it wasn't them, why was Janis so determined to stop them?

Why were only three Ians involved with the mind-melding sequence? Shouldn't every Ian throughout time be helping? What about the Ian(s) before Ben arrived in the past and in the nuclear winter future?

Why was Jenn so tearfully overwhelmed by what was going on with Ben and Addison? Yes, it was very sad, but by I didn't burst into tears. Why would Jenn? The power of friendship?

In the earlier scenes, why were Ian and Jenn dressed like 60s hippies?

This and many more, could be explained by the second season so they didn't bother to explain it here. I got the impression the writer was using the rapid pace to cover the holes in the plot.

There were parts of this episode I liked, like the going through the three Jumps Ben and Martinez had shared before. Even those ended on a weird note, because it was filmed like a big heroic moment of Frankie killing Martinez. Frankie who? Yes, I remember her, but she didn't have a major part in the episode she appeared in, and it wasn't a payoff that she killed Martinez here. Although they made it seem like a big payoff for the character.

So overall it was an okay episode. It had the same flaws I've been complaining about throughout, that the production crew is more concerned about the timey-wimey nature of the show and the ongoing plot, rather than the character stuff. When they had decent characters, I thought the character-driven episodes were better than the timey-wimey ones. And isn't that what QL, at least the original one, was about? Granted the new show is going to something new, because it's all-new! All-different! Then why not just create a new time travel show? Timeless pulled it off, Flashforward pulled it off, Supernatural occasionally pulled it off, heck even Voyagers pulled it off back in the day. Invoking the old QL to make a sequel was nice and I suppose brought in an established fan base, but it still seemed like a gimmick and a way to hook in an established fan base, rather than something that had to be a sequel. And while the original QL did cry out for a sequel to give some closure and answer a few question... too much time has passed (alas, poor Dean Stockwell) and some people didn't want to be involved (*cough cough* Scott Bakula *cough*) for the new QL to work as a sequel.

And the new production team didn't seem that interested in doing a sequel. It's hard to put a finger on it, but for the most part the new show felt more like a cash grab and a way to bring in the original fans, rather than a heartfelt attempt to do justice to the original. I couldn't say why

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Good episode that wraps up a few things

Warning: Spoilers
Finally we get to see Ben as Ben. First in the future, then in 2018, but he has to fight off Martinez somehow to save Project Quantum Leap, himself, and Addison.

I thought the plot was reasonably good, but when it came to the final showdown between Ben and Martinez, the writers failed to deliver a satisfying resolution.

Normally when you have a protagonist and an antagonist fighting each other, the protagonist wins by defeating the antagonist. But here we see someone else kill Martinez, which was a rather weak resolution. Instead, why did they not allow Ben to kill him? Maybe the woman could have helped Ben get Martinez's gun?

Glad to see at the end Ben is returning to Project Quantum Leap in 2023, but they ended it before he arrived. Surely he has to get back so that Ian can then leap, as revealed in episode 12, to go back and tell Ben to leap?

For season 2, we should have Ben return home, Ian leaps, then Ben goes leaping again and then comes across Sam Beckett -- bring back Scott Bakula to play Sam, perhaps in a few episodes, meeting Ben, and eventually Sam gets home and works in the QL offices helping Ben?

Well well well

I was and i still am a fan of Quantum Leap 1989, I love Scot Bakula and his charm, the well writing from the script, and the wit of Dean Stockwell. First, this @new@ Quantum Leap is different. There is not a talking and temperamental Siggy, it lacks the humor of the 90's version. But it's not all wrong, its a new point of view, i like the acting, i love this last espisode as an intruduction of a better show. Will Scott Bakula make a cameo? I wish, would be a nice touch for the fans. What next season will bring, knobody knows, but sure it will be great! Thanks for putting effort and humanity to this new project. A different kind of Quantum Leap, but still good!!!!.

Turtle Time

Warning: Spoilers
I have been so critical of this series but apart from the odd goof regarding shadows of the holograms, this is by far the best story of thd series.. They really pulled the stops out here revisiting several leaps from earlier in the series and, almost plausibly, the other main cast members get to see their younger selves.

Apart from not actually leaping into anyone on the first leap, Ben does get to leap into himself on the second leap.

With nearly everyone getting to go into the imaging chamber, this was really end of term stuff end a whole lot of fun and then there is the suspense of the final leap of the series.

A great watch.

Bravo

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the reference to The Terminator in this season one finale, and bravo to the writers for their braveness and edginess in giving us a series finale for the ages.

This episode is politically incorrect and it ain't for those who are wedded to the Scott Bakula Quantum Leap. For the record, I liked the Scott Bakula Quantum Leap.

I must admit, the various time shifts in their heads would have even Marty McFly, Doc, and Sarah Connor spinning their heads for sure. But Judgment Day is what it is, and I can't wait for season two. Will Dr Ben Song return in season two? Hopefully he will because I like the new Quantum Leap.
