Don't comment base on ep1

I read reviews here and there's a 1/10 review and I couldnt say he's totally wrong. I hv the same feeling after finishing episode one and want to give up given such a non sense. But after the car accident and storyline goes into a completely different world it just start becoming interesting. Is it a parallel world? Is what happen before is a hypothetical situation ? Is that a dream? Things didn't make sense and add up all in a sudden. Her boyfriend from a business world transformed to become a cop, that didn't explain. While watching, things becoming clear bit by bit and it is quite a kinda situation happened in Chinese society. I love the meaningful behind and Taiwanese drama didn't always convey a message and this is the one too.

Must Watch Till the End
kupukupumu5 November 2022
Before I watched this Shards of Her, I watched Pieces of Her. Very similar title, and gave a similar feeling. The thing about finding pieces is it is can be very boring. :)

This can be said about this title (and the similar title above). The series can be very slow and boring, and up to the mid, we are guessing about the direction of this series. Up to the first two or three, I was not even sure what it was about: time travel, schizo, parallel universe, or what.

But to the mid, I began to get it, especially after that scene about that pretty boy in the office. This series is about sexual harassment, which was presented very well. It is then beginning to feel like a documentary, which I quite like. It even tells a bit of why the predators did what they did.

I think the most powerful episode was the last one.

And, I have not watched Taiwanese production since Meteor Garden, so not familiar with the casts, but I think the best performance was not delivered by the main woman, but that other female victim. Somehow, I thought the series could be better if she was the main cast, but I understand her age would not fit the narrative of the story. Still, she is acted the best, and also looks the best.

Anyway, now you know what this series is about, it is up to you if this is your cup or not. Again, the reason I am writing this is to applaud the series effort to deliver message about abuse, which happens daily in our world.

A murder investigation drama through parallel worlds. (no spoilers)
folk_egm31 October 2022
A series where the plot is like a parallel world. Play with the heroine's lost memories. And came into existence in the new world The story progresses through the drama of the lives and wounds of the characters that gradually fade away. Revealing the past Expose social problems that primarily affect women. The mystery theme mixed with murder investigations helps to make the story more interesting. Before being tied together to answer the truth well Even if it's overly exaggerated enough (But it's acceptable) is another quality series of Taiwan where the writing skill is not falling at all. If anyone has always liked the Taiwanese series of Netflix, you can watch it.

Intense thrill ride but bit along at the end
Glue2Screen3 November 2022
Shards of Her was an intense thrill ride and keeps you gripped. Episode one sets it up, but the spike starts at episode two and beyond. I enjoyed the acting from these well known Taiwanese actress/actors. The mystery is so thick you can cut it with a knife. The cinematography is well done and the sets representative of the time period.

Despite these elements, I did find the last segments a bit draggy and frustrating that no one is communicating properly. I found it quite irriating waiting for the secret to be revealed (although the secret is becoming more obvious as each moment passes).

Good thriller/drama.

Symbolism and engaging approach
mphenrique31 October 2022
Despite starting with a first episode that could have been better, the series progresses incredibly well. Manages to deal with delicate and deep subjects presenting different points of view, which demonstrates the incredible work of building characters and the script. Uses symbolism that works well until the last minute of the series. It was a great surprise to watch until the end. However, it is important to understand that it is not a series that simply tells a story. But a work that makes you think ans reflect. Especially the relevance that psychological trauma can bring to a person's life, as well as the importance of having a base of support among your family and friends.

Please keep watching, don't stop at episode 1
josh6151617 January 2023
My wife and I were disappointed in episode one with everything going on. We even waited for three weeks to watch something else and come back. But oh man, it speeds up after episode 2 and 3, and the plot takes a huge turn, even feel like a completely different show. The acting, storyline, relationships are strong and touching. I would highly recommend keeping going on even if you don't like the first episode. It's very worthy and meaningful to many people around us.

Don't give up, just like the show suggest. Please stand with and support all the victims around the world. Very good Taiwanese show.

A compelling watch
ltlinh-3304431 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I see what the other review said about the highly unlikely plot of the 1st episode, and I admit I almost gave up on the show because of that. But I'm glad I stuck around (and also binge-watched the whole thing in one evening crying next to my sleeping child lol)

The main characters were believable and did a good job conveying such a dark subject. Even though there weren't much of any love scene, the chemistry were there and I keep hoping they would fall in love but I get that Lin Chen Xi has to walk out of the tunnel alone and doesn't need to be rescued.

Overall I like it very much and will look for other works of the actor/ actress to satisfy my new found Taiwanese drama fever haha.

... disappointing
silverspawnx8 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show starts off very strange. The tone is all over the place, the main character is an enigma, and there are a lot of moving parts. Then at the start of episode 2, it jumps into an alternate universe, which looks like a fever dream or flashback at first, but turns out to cover over half of the show.

That is the good part. It's hard to figure out where it's all going, but it's interesting. I like strange shows.

But then it gets much less interesting the further the plot progresses, and in the end, we're at a totally boring, one-dimensional story about drama from sexual assault. I have no moral objections to how anything was handled, but it's just... boring. I've seen this before. There's nothing new here. And after a show with this kind of a first episode, that's really disappointing. It looked like an 8 at some point, but the last three episodes are basically a waste of time, so it averages out a 5, just barely worth watching.

crime passioe
ggg-098685 November 2022
Netflix is another drama with the theme of protecting women. Similar dramas strongly recommend the Maid starring Margaret Curry, which involves sexual assault on campus and sexual crimes in the workplace. A successful person who can earn millions of dollars to be on the cover of a magazine by her own ability, it seems that just because she is a woman, she will hear such low-level discussions about being on the top of a woman's sex. The director reshapes the past of the woman leader in a way of traversing a parallel world, Fragmented clips add a sense of suspense. Xu Weining really looks good without dead corners at 360 degrees. The better she looks, the more heartbroken she feels!

Mystery used to explre a painful subject
gmat-2549130 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers ahead.

I peeked at the end to see if it ended OK. Then proceeded to watch the whole nine episodes. The first episode is misleading as the second has a serious twist. There are two timelines, one, set in the first episode shows the main female lead, Chen Xi as a successful headhunter who crosses path with Danny, who destroys her reputation, causes her to leave her job and tries to sexually assault her, all in the first episode. But she has a car crash and the next episode finds her in an alternate reality. Where she is a worker in a children's care facility, a great step down from her other life. The writers us her amnesia and partial memories from her other existence to present an onion mystery. As she interacts with people from the other world who are now living very differently, we also see how they have affected her life. As suggested in the first episode, violence, sexual assault, deniers, enablers are explored either around Chen Xi or to her estranged two best friends. Danny's wife in the first episode is also Ms Ye, the nurse seen at the beginning. She is crucial to the story. In the second world, the death of the patient sets off an investigation that helps to bit by bit explore and explain what happened to Chen Xi and how it affected everyone close to her. Nothing new in the story, but it is an important issue.

I remarked that the intelligent and successful Chen Xi in the first episode made some stupid choices. In the second world, she is rather ordinary because of lost opportunities. The subject can be at time painful to watch. It was an interesting watch.

An exercise in victimology
geewhiz462 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This series tried to be just too cool and clever and ended up as flat as a pancake.

A fourteen-year-old girl is raped by her middle-aged tutor - as is her friend.

Nobody believes her - not even her father - his business is failing so he accepts a settlement (HE accepts a settlement - was he the victim?) and they sweep what happened under the carpet.

Years later this traumatised woman is a successful headhunter in a big business until she is involved in a car crash and ends up in a coma.

This is where there is a totally confusing mix of imagination and real flashbacks.

There is the constant reporting of a nurse committing suicide because she was raped by the head of her hospital - white doves appeared in some scenes for no apparent reason - complete sections were left unexplained regarding the FL's boyfriend and her female friends.

It appears that in Taiwan you can sack a very successful female employee for no reason in favour of an unknown male quantity who takes an incriminating video of himself assaulting said female.

The ending shows us the present heroine and her teenage self walking side by side on a beach. The text reads "I am a beloved child" "I am a child of the world".?

There was a river of self-pity running through this story that drowned out any sympathy one might have had and a completely needless confusion in the telling of it.

Can't even describe this. It took me 20 days to view 9 episodes, really that bad.
kmhlbeavis13 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How can I start. In the beginning an old man dies in a nursing home, then it skips to an office where the lead actress whatever her name is works as a headhunter . Then some man that wanted her pretends that he is the victim of sexual harrasement by her. Later he ties her up and tries to get some, only for her to get away and get into a car accident. From there it goes back and forth from the present to the past. This story is really about who murdered the old man since he had raped a few of these women when they were in the 9th grade. As the story starts to become clearer around episode 7 it gets confusing again in the last 2 episodes. She sues the guy from the office and at the end she is at the beach with her younger self, then they show the old man with his wife taking care of him with her saying that after all she went through that she is still taking care of him. I thought he was dead? The only reason I even considered watching this because the actress alyssa chia was in it and she was good in mom don't do that, but she was only in 6 episodes and not even the main character. Netflix you did it again. Another piece of junk that you invest money in. What happened to triad princess? That is a good taiwanese program and it hasn't been renewed and it's going on 3 years. Wake up already netflix stop investing in garbage and finish all of the good programs.

Highly unlikely scenario and plot
housearrestedever30 October 2022
I couldn't even finish the 1st episode and decided to drop it right away. I have read the three critics' reviews. One is absolutely terrible, didn't say anything. Another blindly praised it without any merit. Only the 3rd one gave a more realistic review and gave it a barely watchable rating.

How could such a sharp, cool, very capable and talented headhunter woman would be so helpless and victimized by a thug-like guy, to be harassed on the day 1 he show up in the company she works? The crazy guy is a completely, illogically arranged to serve the purpose for the drama series, a psychopath from America and his only goal is to harass this No.1 moneymaker of the headhunt company? Taiwan is such a small island and yet it seems to give the viewers that Taipei is a metropolitan mega city with lot of international big companies, so the headhunting business is so booming and so profitable. Give me a break!

Good Story But Average Actings
jlkey15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think the story describes Taiwanese parents in that era precisely, as they usually chooses to believe school teachers rather than their own kids. They also care about their kids' school marks more than their well being. After the incidence, the first reaction from parents in that era is denial, as most of them are not equipped with knowledge of dealing with paedophiles, but they choose to cover it up rather than seek for justice. This show gave us a good platform to review and warned the society of the reality that might happen nowadays as well but not much of solutions. On top of that, the actings on this show are just not up to standard. You can tell the actors tried too hard to portrait their parts but all lack the connection with the role they played in a real life. It is just quite awkward to watch it. Moreover, the makeup doesn't show the age or character of the roles intimately as well. But I still think it is worth to watch.
