I've been binging..
Whitneywest1023 August 2022
The first four seasons for the first time over the last week so maybe that's a little to blame for my "meh" feelings on this show at this point. I was really enjoying it. I loved Hope being gone though. Sue me. But season four Mel seems super whiny and clingy. And I don't know if it helps tor hurts to watch this as it comes out over time or binging all that's available at once. But I feel like the storyline is pretty stagnant at this point. Character growth seems to be developing somewhat but at the same time, reaching the end of season 4, I feel like the story should be much further along than it is. I'm a huge champion of book becoming shows instead of movies because you get more time to tell the whole story properly and included smaller details that would end up being cut if this were a movie instead. So it's kind of a Catch-22 for me. It also feels like they're just writing around whatever actors are available at the time of filming, which hurts the storytelling, in my opinion. If I were reading the books this show is based on, I feel like I'd be much further into the story by this point because I could have read several of these books in the time I've taken to binge this. With 19 books under this book series banner, we should not still be playing out things that occurred in the first episode and yet... here we are. Char still knocked up.. Nick finally coming to terms with the fact he needs help dealing with his war related PTSD. It's really super repetitive and I'm starting tho be over the whole thing if I'm being perfectly honest. In books, instalove and repetitive dialogue, scenes, storyline regurgitation is a HUGE no-no for me. Some of the side stories seem like filler, just a way to pass the time and keep actors that are available still have a connection to what's going on. Boring. My other big no-no, especially on screen is to have a proud independent woman that has her priorities straight suddenly become a doormat that whines every time something isn't the way she thinks it should be. GaG. Give Mel back her spine, let's have some new babies which is sure to freshen up the drama and breathe life back into this flatlining story. Or just give everyone their HEA and pull the ripcord on this one. Because there's some miracles that even life support can't perform.
