A Fun Episode, but it had more Potential,
lesleyharris301 August 2012
Politically Inept, with Homer Simpson is a good Simpsons episode with a well written storyline and many very funny scenes. It was certainly a different Simpsons episode, diving in to the world of politics quite deeply, we get to see the writers many different views and opinions through the eyes of Homer Simpson as he hosts his own political talk show, which was certainly a lot of fun and his speech on the airplane at the beginning was a very well spoken moment. The episode starts off strong, but I was forced to change it from an eight to a seven because of how the story decreases, Homer's comments on his show become much less funny once he becomes involved with republicians and the whole thing becomes too "pro-Democrat" when it should have just been pro-comedy. The worst part of this for me had to be Ted Nugent, once he comes in all the witty satire comes to an end and we are forced to listen to his brutal one liners, if Homer was forced to endorse a fictional celebrity, lick Rainier Wolfcastle or Kent Brockman, it would have been fine, but instead they brought in one of the series most mediocre guest appearances to date. It has many flaws, but Politically Inept with Homer Simpson is still a very enjoyable episode.

Homer becomes the host of his own political show, Gut Check with Homer Simpson, after a speech he makes on an airplane goes viral.

Why would anyone have ted nugent as a guest star?

I have no idea how to rate this. I ended up with a six since I really enjoyed it until Ted Nugent showed up. Even Homer isn't this stupid, is he? Painful. I can't believe someone thought paying this idiot to spout his gross nonsense on THIS show was a good idea in any way. Just off-putting and gross, maybe more so because I'm seeing this years late, as part of me watching all the seasons are now available on Disney+. I missed a lot of the mid to later seasons since I lived overseas.

I liked the spoof on him being a rightwing talking head (the constant crying and the gravy boats were a particularly nice touch). But yeah, it pretty much went off the rails somewhere in there.

I hate it when good cartoons cram their creators political ideals down your throat
jjk488-14 April 2012
The Simpsons has always been a great cartoon, and there is a reason why I have watched it for all these years. While there has always been some underlying political idealism in the show, it was usually very subtle, usually in the form of Lisa saying something very liberal. I can deal with that even if I disagree since the show can usually be pretty objective, however this episode simply crossed the line. It honestly felt like something you would see on the Family Guy with it's offensive "republicans are bad people, democrats are holier than thou" mentality.

That is honestly why I lost interest in Family Guy because it became some outlet for the creators political idealism, and I don't like it when people try to prescribe political ideals and cram them down my throat, overgeneralizing politics in general to present a favorable outlook for their chosen side. So that is why I am rating this a 2 star since in my honest opinion it felt like borderline propaganda, which is something I have always taken offense to. I gave it a bonus star for the funny parts, but honestly, the Simpsons need to stop cramming politics down your throat, it destroys every good cartoon.

The Simpsons get their shots in at political opinion shows
athomed8 January 2012
This episode begins with the Simpson family going to a relative's wedding. They have to fly to get there. Homer's pat down, shut up and grounded so long that he goes off. Bart tapes the entire thing and puts it on Youtube where it becomes a viral video hit. Homer is offered a television show after a television appearance he does because of the video.

I liked a lot of the beginning and the middle of this episode. I think it fell apart toward the end. Ted Nugent was largely a useless guest star. This episode is quite relevant, affectionately poking fun at everyone from Obama to Chris Christie. I think the episode is at its best when satirizing shows like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh with Homer's "Gut Check with Homer Simpson" television show. Then there's the hilarious segment with gravy.

I give this an episode an 8 out of 10 when considering how strong the episode was until the end. It's quite fun.
