A Holiday Gem
evangeline1828 May 2014
Giantpanther missed the point of this episode. It was a parody of Glee, not an homage. It was likening the Glee hysteria to the film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1978), where alien invaders replace human beings with duplicates that appear identical on the surface but are devoid of emotion or individuality. Most obvious reference being the "Scream" scene with Britta and Jeff.

This ep. also made a great point about the Glee vs. Kings of Leon controversy in which creator Ryan Murphy was being publicly critical of KOL's and other artist refusals of song usage and basically calling them bullies.

Jeff: Oh please, not liking Glee club doesn't make us bullies and implying that is reverse bully-ism!

I know, I know giant's comment/episode are 2 yrs old but, I felt the need to comment in case future Community watchers were interested. It's by far one of the wittier episodes of season 3 and I don't recommend "skipping this one" because beside the underlying Glee insults, the songs and jokes make this a gem.

Dean Dong ...
mad_man_moon8 December 2011
**vague spoilers** I guess I'm just *conditioned* to laugh at awesomeness.

This was excellent, and another jab at Glee, with SNL newbie Taran Killam as the Glee club instructor (or whatever) putting in a pretty good performance. His character turns on SNL have usually been pretty good, and this works, too.

Fans of the show and Doctor Who lovers/haters will love the Dr. Space Time bits, as Pudi whites up for the role, and Glover puts on a commendable accent for his assistant.

I know that this is slightly irrelevant, but I did want to say how much I loved Troy locking the blanket fort in the last episode.

Oh, and enjoy the coda, it's just silly enough.

Merry Dean/Chang-mas!

You don't have to know glee to love this one
chinbagdeluxe26 August 2021
I loved this episode. Even though it was more over the top than other episodes but if that really crosses the line for you then 95% of other shows should be unwatchable for you. Just don't take it too seriously.

Hilarious and underrated
ambergale18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Two very over-the-top, hilarious character performances come from Troy (and Abed) at 7:15 mark when they start rapping, ultimately surrounded by fly-girls. Yoip! And of course, the insane singing/dancing by Britta on stage, completely off-key and out of sync! Excluding the mention of holidays or singing, I'm impressed with how well this was done. I don't enjoy musicals or have any interest in glee - so the parody of the mindset was spot-on. This episode is definitely in the top ten of the series.

Fun episode
punqdoq11 April 2022
Not the strongest episode but still a lot of fun. It pokes fun at Glee and makes the Glee Club act as some sort of a cult, luring people in with their disarming friendliness. It's a funny concept and an enjoyable episode.

Ignore the musical haters
animalguell29 March 2022
I'm a lifelong musical lover, and I adore this episode. It's obviously satire, and the people taking it seriously don't seem to get that. It's making fun of glee and other musicals in the nicest way. The entire cast, except for Gillian (which she acknowledges in the featurette) are amazing singers and just put their whole musical-loving souls into the episode.

Abed is the goat
bobby-0672422 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Been binge watching this show. Love most of the crew but Abed holds a special place in my heart. This episode showed truly how much the crew means to him. Seeing them all recognize how lonely he'd be over break and deciding to surprise him at his apartment was awesome. Solid show with some great episodes, this was one of them.

I got a Christmas time for me
safenoe23 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A hilarious Community Christmas episode from season 3, with Britta's singing "I got a Christmas time for me"being the hilariously high point to this episode. Taran Killam was hilariously maniacal as the glee club leader. Jocularity, jocularity.

The ending was touching, bringing the Study Group together, sitting with Abed watching the TV. Kind of reminded me of the final scene of Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas where the Magnificant Seven gazed at the TV screen.

An Episode with Molly
yucel_guler21 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Some might not have realized but the characters are on Molly in this episode. Some 'ridiculous' behaviors are just characters pretending to be under influence.

I think the 'recruiting' part, where they sang some impressive songs were great. So much effort in this episode by the writers i think it deserves 10.

For me it was one of the best episodes of Community.

Musical "Special" Episode= SKIP
daisyisabaker4 February 2021
I'm I the only who hates when shows do this? Abed of all characters shoulder know that it's the most over used boring and cringey trap for a successful show to fall into.

I think you have to be into Glee to like this one
giantpanther29 March 2012
One of the weaker Community episodes, save for one part where Annie seduces/convinces Jeff to get on board with the whole glee club thing. Anyways, the basic plot for this episode is filled with glee references, so if you are into thats how this might help convert you over to the community world but as for the rest of us, i would recommend skipping this one, no significant plot points are touched on, and it made me miss the show less when it went into its forced hiatus until march. But now that its back, its back with a vengeance, thus far three good episodes following this one. Usually what can make a community episode work, is that even if you don't like one plot line some of the other characters are usually up to something entertaining, so you can then ignore the plot you aren't into and focus in on the other stuff. anyways in this case it all flows together in a glee mess, so thats what weakened this episode for me.

Straight up cringe
gaeljrodriguezhndz4 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really don't like this episode, and not because I'm a glee fan (IDK why) but because I didn't really find the humor in it except for Britta's singing towards the end of the episode (I think it's towards the end) but that't because I will always like Britta. I just found this real cringy.

Good musical special episodes are not a thing.
ChProv27 June 2021
This episode is like every other musical episode of any show ever. People poorly singing on poor beats. And the very few jokes they try dont land because they're trying so hard to follow the beat of the music that they miss the timing of the joke. In this particular case, the worst part is that they acknowledge that musicals are the worst at the beginning of the episode, yet they still do it, probably trying to be meta or something.

Disrespectful
midnightcub22 September 2020
They need to drop Glovers character being a Jehovah's Witness because they get things wrong consistently and are often very disrespectful. Better to just let it go. I lose a lot of respect for all involved.

The Constitution Does Not Prevent Religion
tarnishedhalotx30 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Secularists, like the ones in hollyweird, are the ones who prevent Jesus, who have removed God from our schools & public square, not the Constitution. No where in the Constitution, Bill of Rights or Declaration of Independence is the phrase "separation of church & state". The USA was founded as a Christian nation upon Judeo Christian values & will not stand, is falling, because of the rejection of those values.

Cringe worthy episode, musical episodes usually are, a few minor laughs, but all overshadowed by lies & wishful thinking of the disconnected from reality & facts leftists.
