You Clean It Up!
douglasmcbroom12 December 2022
Well this was a very different episode. There was very little comedy and a whole lot of drama; both in New York City and back in Tulsa. Hellsapoppin everywhere for Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone).

He's got a deadly and connected biker gang on his trail back in Tulsa, whilst he's dealing with old business back in the Big Apple.

The scene between Stallone and his daughter Tina (Tatiana Zappardino) was the best dramatic scene of the series, thus far. But, the scene in the Social Club was 'Sopranos' worthy-Bada Bing!

We are halfway through Season 1 and the series has definitely hit its stride moving between comedy and drama deftly and writing great lines for Stallone, which he delivers with relish.

Hands down my favourite episode so far
ahmadz83911 December 2022
The scene with the dead body, where you can clearly see him breathing, ruined my immersion. It's hard to believe it made it through post-production, as it disrupted the scene's emotional impact.

As for the episode, it's hands down my favourite episode so far. Stallone continues excelling in this role, bringing a sense of intensity and gravitas to the character. The episode itself had a distinct feel reminiscent of "The Sopranos," with a few scenes reflecting the influence. "Token Joe" does an excellent job of setting up a lot of exciting storylines and plot points for the back half of the season, leaving me eager for the next episode. In conclusion, a solid showing yet again.

Rating: 7.8/10 (Impressive)

Slow: Not as Good As Episodes 1-4
panagiotis199311 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's sad that Dwight has to deal with his brother's death and his whole family situation is very complicated. I like that this episode introduces dirty cops. These cops took Tyson's phone and cash? Damn they're filthy. So now the team has to fight against the police and Black Macadam. Kidnapping Bodhi? I definitely didn't expect that! Dwight's daughter calling him Dwight instead of dad kinda hurts. Am I the only one who didn't exactly understand what this Nico dude did to Dwight's daughter? The fight scene was brutal and satisfying though. I thought that Dwight isnt a murderer?

If I remember correctly he went to prison for a murder he didn't commit and also he killed a guy as self-defense. I don't know, him killing Nico seemed a bit out of character. Maybe they want a different direction for Dwight's character. This episode was kinda slow and it focuses more on Dwight's family, it feels a bit like a filler episode but it was decent. Something that annoys me is the fact that the episodes keep getting smaller and smaller. This one is 36 minutes but you have to consider the time for the intro and the credits. So the real time is about 33 minutes, that sucks.

Anyway, my rating is 7/10. This is not as good as the previous episodes, i expect something better in episode 6.

EDIT (14 December 2022): So a reviewer responded to my review. Here is my response to them. Ok so ''package'' means man genitalia in slang, im not an American so i didn't know that. I thought package meant ''an object or group of objects wrapped in paper or packed in a box.'' That's probably why i didn't understand what Nico did to Dwight's daughter but still they could make the whole thing much clearer, not everybody is familiar with US slang. Still that won't change my rating. Probably the worst episode of the season so far.

Episode 5 Spoilers response to Panag - 10

Warning: Spoilers
That is why I rewatch with Subtitles a second time, had trouble following it first time - Big Spoiler Alert -

In the Flower shop scene the daughter tells Dwight that Nico "the Package " delivered money from the Mob/Mafia Family to the ex wife from time to time when Dwight was in prison - " the Package ' nickname was apparently for his sexual talents and when she was alone as a teenager , her mother working , and Nico delivered the money , she learned how he "got his nickname ". He sexually assaulted her or attempted to - you needed subtitles to get the full impact because she was so reluctant to say it explicitly and sort of talking in code , but Dwight knew - the next Hospital scene with the sick "godfather" character was pivotal- where Dwight talks about how Father's duty is to protect the ones they love , that is their job and he wasn't there to do that - that drama makes this series special -

Sly Earning every cent.

Warning: Spoilers
WOW. What a commanding performance from Stallone in this episode. Rolling back the years whilst straightening that suit front.

Truly menacing and emotional when his families dark past is revealed.

This episode elevates from the goofy 'fish out of water' narrative and takes Dwight back to NYC for a heartfelt goodbye to Joe Manfredi.

This dark turn is very welcome and puts the series on a par with the mighty Sopranos, for me.

Things aren't all sunshine and rainbows (see what I did there?) back in Tulsa either. Looks like Dwight is gonna have to work with Stacey to take out Black McAdam to ensure the safety of Bodhi and Tyson. Gripping stuff.

Very Promising start delivers!
TV_Gourmet15 December 2022
Everything I've seen in episodes up until now has been very impressive, hence setting expectations at a high level. This episode delivered at the Goodfellas level. In this episode, the writing, casting, sets, and acting came together in a great dramatic climax. This is why we watch TV! Sylvester Stallone is restrained most of the time in this series, with seasoned bursts of intensity. His combination of subtlety and intensity make him an actor who is fascinating to watch. He has definitely grown over the years and has greater depth in this role than we have seen in prior roles. The father daughter relationship is a key to accessing his soft side. Well done to cast crew writers et al!

Token Joe

Warning: Spoilers
This show is starting to grow and find its place, and although there is plenty of work that still needs to be done, it is very easy appointment viewing for me every Sunday on Paramount+. I feel like the vicious beatdown by Dwight was something this series needed to show that it is not just another Yellowstone, but its own beast entirely.

I feel like a little too much of this was just family drama and too much trying to be The Sopranos, but overall this continues to be fun TV. Curious to see how this first season all unfolds and what surprises there will be, if any, down the stretch in the coming weeks.

His dead brother is breeding in coffin
contact-170-13017221 December 2022
At the funeral, His dead brother is breeding in the coffin very obvious. His belly is moving various times. Very pity mistake made by the director. And now I'm writing anything because i need to put a minimum of six hundreds letters in the review otherwise i can't post it. But i really dont understand why is needed to speak so much because six hundred letters is really much just to spit out your opinion about an episode of a series. What more can i say... That it is a nice series but it is made some kind of childish approach.. You can't see this film from a serious point really. Sly is nice and we love him.

Switching genres midway SPOILER
burgershmurger13 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a turning point where Tulsa King switches from comedy to thriller. The reason is that we went from no body count to a grisly body count number one, perpetrated by Dwight in a rage very reminiscent of the Sopranos. It's as though they decided to switch genres after a couple of episodes. As a viewer I feel cheated as I'd been enjoying the lighthearted approach to the mobster milieu. Are we gonna be watching a Sopranos rip-off from now on? Who needs that? Dwight seemed like a lovable mobster not cut of the same cloth as other ruthless gangsters. But now I'm having a hard time liking the guy. They shouldn't have gone there. They should have gone there in the pilot, not mid-season.
