Rookie Daicos makes an early blunder, kicking it from the goal-line straight to Wood for the Saints first. Mihocek replies for the Pies. Collingwood aggressive with high energy and activity, the Saints able to quell the storm somewhat, down 9 after one. Marshall involved a lot, Howe likewise for the Pies. King looking like taking over the game, just inaccurate on the set shots. Membrey kicking a much needed goal for the Saints, down 15 at the half. The Pies start to run away with it early in the 3rd. Higgins obviously hasn't worked too much on his kicking. Hayes with his third goal on debut, putting the Saints back within 8. Higgins butchers many more opportunities for the Saints though, Pies remain up 5 going into the last. A contested last term, the Saints too sloppy and wasteful to get it done though, Pies by 17. The Pies handily won the hit-out, had more of the ball and laid more tackles. They had 7 more inside 50's, for 3 more scoring shots. Hayes best afield on debut in a losing side, with 18 disposals, 4 contested marks, 5 intercepts and 3 goals. Gresham 24 disposals, 6 clearances, 7 inside 50's, 513 metres gained, 2 goals and an assist. For the Pies, Lipinski 30 disposals, 5 clearances, 7 inside 50's, 5 intercepts, a goal and 2 assists. Adams 25 disposals, 11 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 2 assists. Grundy 17 disposals, 37 hit-outs, 5 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 5 tackles and an assist.
