Underrated

I remember Do The Bartman at a time when The Simpsons was the show to watch for sure. I didn't know Michael Jackson co-wrote such a classic for a series that soon became a classic for sure.

Classic music video, a lot of fun

Back in its early days, The Simpsons made two music videos. One was Deep, Deep Trouble, while the first one was Do The Bartman. You might think of Homer when you hear The Simpsons, but Bart was actually the most popular character at first. With his cool catchphrases, and high relatability to other children who went in school, he was on everyone's mind.

So it only made sense to make something to cash in on his cultural influence. But as dated as it might look today (Bart of now would probably never do something like this, which is a shame), I think it has a lot of charm to it. It's nicely directed (by Brad Bird, who also was behind Krusty Gets Busted) and well choreographed (even though it's animation and not real people, but... you know), and most of all... it's so damn catchy! When listening to it, tell me you really don't want to stand up and do the Bartman. It's even pretty funny, got the classic wit you know the show for.

I would watch this one all the time on my season 1 DVD set, so even though I didn't grow up in the early 90's I still have fond memories of this short.

If you don't mind crude animation and screamin' early 90's, give it a look.

Pure dorky and regrettable ~CHEESE~ from a bygone era. Warning: Spoilers
This animated one hit wonder was born of the (thankfully)brief period when Bart was in his "underachiever and proud of it" obnoxious cool brat persona, and was generally considered to be the main character of the show - before everyone came to their senses and realised that the true star was not Bart, but rather Homer! It may have long overstayed its welcome, but whether you now hate or like what the Simpsons has become, I think or I hope, that one thing that all fans can agree on is that Homer is the one thing about it that never stopped being great. The animation is fairly well done. I remember it as having that ugly and slightly disturbing look that most of the first and second seasons had. There's a surprising variety of characters on display. It was kind of amusing trying to spot them all. It has end credits, just like a real episode. If, for whatever reason, anyone really likes this, there's a director's cut on the season 2 DVD. Nancy Cartwright's "rapping" is actually pretty good! Michael Jackson is mentioned once. I can't believe this was number one in my country for three whole weeks! I mean it's kind of catchy & all, but come on! It's not so much the singing that I find corny, so much the dancing! Ew!!! This type of thing is such an embarrassing little chapter in the show's history. I'm so glad it soon moved away from this kind of childish nonsense. It's just horrible, and only ever really intended for the little kiddies, something I don't believe the show ever completely was. In a sweet moment of hilarity in an otherwise dreck episode made seven years later, the show itself poked fun at this ridiculous musical moment of the past. Bart, on the school bus and desperate for attention, sings a bit of the song. Ralph Wiggum, uncharacteristically normal for once, comments:"that is so 1991". Amen, Ralphie.. See ya!

Nobody today remembers the Bartman anymore - and for good reason

Warning: Spoilers
"Bart Simpson: Do the Bartman" is a 6-minute music video from 1990 and this one is already 27 years old now. It is basically about the family's son from the famous "Simpsons" television show, from the early years, and he is told to stay in the back when a school dance is performed, but of course if you know the character, then you also know he has another plan in mind. Could it all be real though? Lots of dancing and music in here, but I felt that nothing was too creative or memorable and the rhythm aspect certainly wasn't anything special either. People who complain about how this show got worse should watch this one and there is no way that today's Simpsons are as bad as this generic short movie from over a quarter of a century ago. Plus it was never funny either or will get you in the mood to watch a Simpsons episode or two. Oh yeah, director is Pixar's Oscar winner Brad Bird early in his career and obviously still far far away from his peak. Bart may be far from my favorite Simpsons character, but I don't think personal bias was the main reason here why I did not like it. It just wasn't special at all and as I wrote in the title of my review there is a reason why nobody associates the world's yellowest family with music these days. Or ever has. Closer to */***** than to ***/***** in my opinion. Watch something else.
