How time flies...
imdbbaz23 March 2022
A viewer paying the slightest attention to the timeline of "Murdoch Mysteries" would be aware that the current season is situated not in the late 1800s, as was Season 1, but in the years leading up to the Great War --I would guess about 1911-1912 by this point. I thought that this episode was, in the best "Murdoch" tradition, both an enjoyable mystery story and a dig at our contemporary society and mores. Instead of the World Wide Web, we have the PPP; as a nod to the future Facebook, we have Face Space; we even have amusing allusions to the memes of present-day social media, viz. Inspector Brackenreid's delight at the equivalent of cat videos. Maybe it needs to be pointed out as well that, at the episode's end, Pendrick abandons his new technology, leaving it to be reimagined at a much later date. Part of the charm of this series is the way it reflects its period and also ties in with our own; perhaps it would be sensible not to insist on a literal depiction of the era the show is set in...

Season 15 is 1910 era, not late 1800s

Warning: Spoilers
The last episode in Season 5 "Twentieth Century Murdoch" ushes in the 20th century, 1900, thus current year for Season 15 is 1910.

But too some of your point, It's still too early in the 20th century for some of the tech lingo, considering based on the era they are still 4 years away from the first passenger airplane flight.

Parlour vs Parler?

Warning: Spoilers
One of the most entertaining episodes in several weeks. As somewhat of a computer geek, I loved the links to modern day Facebook, movies of cats, hacking and even the scams from a "Nigerian Prince," who the Security Team at my company warned us about decades ago. One of the previous criticisms of this episode was that people back then didn't use those technical terms or speak that way. Well, policemen Murdoch, Crabtree & Brackenreid didn't use them, but the scientist Pendrick & his female assistant used them for this new, never before seen technology. The series began in 1895 but has been steadily moving through time. I remember the passionate kiss between Murdoch & Ogden on New Year's Eve to welcome the new century 1900. A January 2017 episode, "Great Balls of Fire," covered the Great Toronto Fire of 1904. Murdoch's timeline isn't stagnant. LOL!

Wonderful!

Contrary to what someone else has thought, this is not a documentary! Of course these technologies weren't invented then - this is just an amusing imagining and very entertaining story. It reminds me of an episode where tiny coloured squares were sent from England to Toronto and Murdoch and Crabtree put them together to make a complete picture of a suspect. So pleased that Murdoch Mysteries has found it's feet again.

TECHNOLOGY HITS HISTORY- ITS A GUT PUNCH

The script writers have totally ticked me off now!!

Looks and sounds like someone got in a transporter and went back to the 19th century!! They brought the 21st century into the 19th century with all this 21st century lingo!!

The entire episode is ruined and riddled with words and lingo NEVER USED DURING THIS ERA The year of this entire show is in the late 1800's. The script writers have interjected words and word combos that were just not part of this generation or time.

They did not EVER use words or word combo such as "FACE SPACE? Or ICON? Unless they were talking about a Movie Icon... but they would have used the word(s) Movie Star not ICON>.. and the CHESSHIRE CAT ICON!!!- totally ridiculous!! That wasn't even a thing in 1890!!... BLOCKED SECTIONS? " Were they talking about a roadway that had BLOCKED SECTIONS.?? No! They were talking about TEXT as in the written word! Once again, folks from this generation would not have spoken like this. At best they would have said something like " this section of the paragraph or text".. (and when I say text in this inference. I mean words) They didn't start BLOCKING TEXT until the mid 1990's!!

If you had of used any of these expressions that were used in this episode, you would have been the laughing stock of the universe! They would have simply not understood a word you said. They never used this modern terminology in that era! Also, they never had this invention of Pendrick's Planetary Parlour inventions!!! This is a complete fabrication of history!! Think about it? Anyone would has been around in the 90's knows the joy of dial-up!! This show destroys history!

I know this show is just for entertainment purposes...but sheesh!!.. the script writers have totally changed the concept of the show and proven once again.. you youngin's are changing history at will!!

Just another show killed by cancel culture.
