Came for the biscuit. Stayed for the Honey Sauce
becfordyce7 October 2022
Sometimes the internet is a wonderful place.

I only recently learned about this film after "Taste the Biscuit" started doing the rounds on TikTok and Instagram. I had to find out the context of this song.

Turns out it is from a fun mockumentary with a very dry sense of humor. Super DIY feel - but that is part of its charm.

Lots of great characters, cringe scenarios and all sorts of weird and wonderful.

I loved Estelle Piper as Toasters. She has such an undeniable presence.

The band manager is reminiscent of Murray from Flight of the Conchords.

The music is so catchy in a very weird way!

I loved Moose's Casio keyboard solos. They are so hysterical.

Lots of fun, and utterly charming.

Well worth a look if you enjoyed "Taste the Biscuit". Especially if you are a fan of "Tim and Eric"

Yes - this is a fine movie

The popular clip of the duo performing "Taste The Biscuit" is what whet my appetite to see the full-length feature, and so I did a little detective work (it's currently free on YT) and just finished watching it. They actually perform the song twice in the film, the second time on the sidewalk under a busy flyover.

The music mockumentary is now a well-trod format - pioneered by Spinal Tap, and further honed by Flight Of The Conchords - but there's a rawness and honesty to this piece that feels fresh. The music is first and foremost - which is why it works. Someone really thought about these songs and they weren't just shoe-horned in.

The bit with Moose on on the beach with Toaster's solo piece providing the soundtrack is actually quite a moment. There is hardly any chemistry between anyone and for some reason that works really well here - they are not trying to make anyone like anyone else - it's very natural.

If you like your films irreverent and unusual you'll probably like this, maybe even love it. I can see this being very popular as it finally gets the worldwide attention it deserves.

Bravo Toasters, and bravo Moose 🙌

Delightfully stupid

If you've heard the viral "Taste the Biscuit" song and wondered if the movie was really that stupid...yes. Yes, it is. It's unbelievably, wonderfully, delightfully stupid.

It's a bit like "This Is Spinal Tap" but not. For every terrible band that makes it big, there are many other terrible, obscure bands that refuse to give up no matter how much they get punched in the face by reality. And "Toasters 'N' Moose" is that kind of band. They're a few notches BELOW a lounge act.

At one point, Moose sarcastically suggests to the manager that they should have animatronic robot versions of themselves on stage, but the manager thinks it's actually a good idea.

And that raises an important question: how do you promote a zero-talent musical act? The film provides an answer.

It was a low-budget film to begin with, and that aesthetic seems to fit this struggling band like a glove. It was clearly shot on cheap camcorders, not movie cameras.

Honestly a masterpiece

This was oddly enough a really great film, I discovered Toastersnmoose through a trending tiktok audio and it all rolled from there. I watched this movie all the way through and can proudly say I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Unlike many low-budget films, this film has great acting and storytelling. I was actually a little surprised to see just how good this film was. I'd even go so far to say that if this movie were released today, it'd be a hit. It gives such a great feeling of home and it just scratches that weird itch in my brain. I truly think this could pass as a great indie film.

Did you play the wall in Peter Pan?
jfgibson7328 October 2022
I have a friend that likes to forward me a lot of unfunny videos. Well, this time he stumbled across something that is actually entertaining. Most of the story isn't really laugh-out-loud funny; more often than not, the dialog consists of cliched situations that no one has laughed at for generations. But the performances are endlessly rewatchable. Something about these two elderly citizens playing these off-the-wall songs with no trace of irony drew me right in. Track it down and give it a chance. Realize, though, that this is a very low-budget homespun project that uses a format that's been done many times before. Regardless, they put together something that is more than the sum of its parts.
