Three Meetings of the Extraordinary Committee

Warning: Spoilers
Directed and written by Jones, the filmmaking project of Michael Woodward and Max Barron, this black and white film finds itself in the small farming village of Dobre where the citizens are about to vote for a mythical creature. The film looks at the political and religious views of a town that is not in our country or even our world and yet shows us how ridiculous voting and the process of people trying to figure out how to do the best will of all is a fool's mission. However, this film looks absolutely gorgeous as it tells its tale.

I liked the old religious figure most of everyone, as he is literally non-plussed at having to discuss religion with someone so below his caste.

A great satire about bureaucracy and belief.

Beautifully photographed, cast and acted. This film is both a topical and enjoyable portrayal of how gullibility and fear of challenging untruths can paralyse progress. Three Meetings Of The Extraordinary Comittee is fun to watch and leaves you thinking!

Oh, so timely a parable!

Beautifully shot, adeptly directed, this may be a short film, but it packs a deceivingly delicate, yet simultaneously hard punch. Repeat something often enough, never leave your own echo chamber, and it's amazing how you can string people along. How very well done, and how very timely. As Orwell said, ""In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

Beautifully executed, funny and unsettling

We currently live in a world where believing something is true, just because you want it to be, is pervading every area of our lives.

This small, beautifully cast and acted film uses character and humour to make a universal and unsettling point- that hope usually trumps truth.

A film that packs true insights into human behaviour into a clever short, witty, well acted and directed delight. If you enjoy thought proving cinema don't miss Three Meetings of the Extraordinary Committee.

Another minor masterpiece from Jones
john-514425 March 2022
Small but perfectly formed, this film manages to explore a surprising number of issues during its short time span - politics, organised religion, death, greed, the inadequacy of the patriarchy and the economic fragility of organised farming. As in their earlier work, Jones have injected some dark humour into the script as well as squeezing some rather impressive performances from their small cast. Cinema never exists in a vacuum and this short remind us of the frailties of human nature under whatever political ideology. As if we currently need a reminder...

Poignant allegory of our times. A must watch.

The choice of black and white as a medium, Eastern Europe as a setting and a storyline that exposes human frailties of greed and gullibility, seem remarkably prescient today. This short film that's cleverly written and beautifully cast is both thought provoking and funny. Can you really get people to believe anything you tell them?
