Albert is a wonderful film. It's the story of a young black boy, growing up in the 1960s Midwest. He has dreams about heading to California, but times are rough for his family and friends. Albert searches for a male role model, and finds one in his grandfather, who lives with the family. He struggles with wanting to act the man for his mother, but ultimately still is a child who needs comfort and love.
The cinematography, soundtrack, and characters are all really well done. It's a beautifully acted film and a pleasure to watch. It touches on some difficult issues, and really captures the difficulty of being young but wanting to feel powerful. The feel of the movie is dreamy, and the imagination behind it is solid.
