"Maria and I" tells the story of a spanish father and his daughter, who suffers from autism. The film follows the two of them, shows how everyday's life is affected by the circumstances and displays the roles of father and daughter in this special situation.

It is always interesting and important to learn more about how life looks for people challenged by their destiny. In this case, the father as someone who knows his daughter best, is able to give some insight into the world of an autist and the world of a relative, living with an autistic child. I like how he interweaves his drawings into the movie, that are an element of order in his daughter's life. However, the father-daughter relationship looks a bit odd for someone watching from the outside, more close than most daughters will feel comfortable with. But then again, it just shows you how different your life and your role can get when destiny hits you.

All in all this is an interesting film, that helps to understand the world of autism. It is very personal, which can be discomforting at times, but if you're interested in how people cope with their destiny, this could be a title for you.
