Post Mortem with Mick Garris: Robert Englund (2010)

The third entry in Mick Garris' Post Mortem series has the filmmaker sitting down with Robert Englund to discuss his early careers, his role as Freddy Kruger and what the actor has been doing recently. If you're a fan of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET then it's probably fair to say you've seen hours worth of interviews with Englund but the actor is always interesting to listen to and he offers up some nice stories here. Some of those include how the famous hat got to stay in the picture and why he thought Craven really gave him the role. Englund also talks about some of his early pictures as well as why he has chosen to stay in the horror genre. The majority of the running time gets devoted to Kruger but that's really not a problem as Englund has never had a problem about being entertaining when it comes time to discuss this role. I thought it was fun hearing Englund talk about the comedy bits Freddy did and how he says if he could go back in time he'd try to leave a little of this out in favor of some darker moments. Garris also asks him about certain horror stars (Anthony Perkins, Christopher Lee) who come to resent the roles that made them famous but Englund is honest that he's happy to be a horror star and that Craven told him to respect the genre way back when they were filming the first ELM STREET. Overall, this is another very good entry in the series and fans of Englund will certainly eat up everything he says.
