How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

French action director Pierre Morel’s European-set car heist flick “Overdrive” was all set to star Matthew Goode and Alex Pettyfer as brothers who run afoul of gangsters in the south of France. Oh my what a difference a year makes. This year, the brothers are now being played by “Dredd’s” Karl Urban and “Snow White and the Huntsman’s” Sam Claflin, with “Game of Thrones’” Emilia Clarke also added to the cast. Not just that, but Morel, who was previously attached to direct, will now just produce, with After Dark Films regular Antonio Negret stepping in to take over the directing gig. Negret is coming off the horror flick “Seconds Apart” and more recently, the actioner “Transit” with Jim Caviezel. Written by “Wanted” boys Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, “Overdrive” will find Urban and Claflin playing “two American brothers who decide to take their careers as car thieves...

Just last week, it was announced that Joel Silver's Dark Castle Home Entertainment and Courtney Solomon's After Dark Films were joining forces on a new action movie franchise titled "After Dark Action," which kicks off with five movies to be shown theatrically as a "commercial film festival" before hitting VOD on May 11th. Now, the first trailer for the first of the After Dark Action movies, Transit, has been released online.
Written by Michael Gilvary (According to Greta) and directed by Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart), Transit stars Jim Caviezel (Outlander) as Nate Sidwell, an ex-con attempting to restore his relationship with his family by taking them on a camping trip only to become a pawn in a game of "cops and robbers" with $4 million — and his family's lives — on the line. Karl Urban has always been one of the best things, if not the best thing, in nearly all of his films so we imagine director Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart, Transit) must be skipping for joy now that Urban has signed on to star in his long gestating French-set automobile action-thriller ‘Overdrive’. And yeah, he’ll likely be the best thing in the movie again.
Written by Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the writing duo behind 2008’s action fest Wanted, the thriller will start shooting this weekend in Marseille and centres on two brothers with a penchant for stealing cars who find themselves in a little more trouble than they bargained for in the South of France when they come in front of a mob boss.

[1] Ken Jeong has built up a respectable career as a supporting actor, most notably on NBC's Community and the Hangover films, but for his next movie role he'll be moving a little closer to the spotlight. Jeong is set to star in and produce The Chung Factor, which landed on the 2005 Black List back when it was titled The Ex-Factor. Andy Selsor's screenplay revolves around a nice guy who falls in love with a woman, but begins to worry he'll screw things up and employs an "offbeat" relationship coach (Jeong). Unfortunately, said coach turns out to be the woman's ex, who wants to win her back and is actively trying to ruin the nice guy's chances. It's great to see the talented and funny Jeong nabbing some bigger parts, but I kind of wish he'd chosen to play the romantic lead. The villain here sounds like he fits a little...

Car chases and car thieves always make a great combination for a fast-paced action film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actors Karl Urban and Ben Barnes have been cast as car-thieving siblings in “Overdrive.” The film will have France as its primary setting. The trade news also reported that Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) is in talks for the female lead. Several actors were attached at several points during the development including Alex Pettyfer, Matthew Goode and Garrett Hedlund. Urban will be seen in the upcoming remake “Dredd” next year. He will be reprising his roles in the upcoming sequels for “Star Trek” as Bones and a “Riddick” movie as Lord Vaako. As for Barnes, he was last seen in the film “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” He will be seen in “The Words,” and “The Wedding” next year. “Overdrive” script was written by the...

Writers like Michael Brandt and Derek Haas are some of the hardest to properly judge. Although some of their scripting work — which includes 2 Fast 2 Furious and Wanted — are absolute dreck, those are studio-controlled screenplays based on pre-existing properties — limitations, no doubt. But, when they put out an entertaining, mostly original screenplay such as 3:10 to Yuma, they suddenly don’t seem like complete hacks.
THR tells us that a new screenplay of theirs, Overdrive, has landed Karl Urban and Ben Barnes in the lead roles. They’re taking over for Alex Pettyfer and Matthew Goode, both of whom were at least negotiating in May; THR says that they’ve dropped out since then.
In the film, they’ll appear as “a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers, known for being high-profile car thieves, who travel to the South of France looking for new challenges and come across a tough local crime boss.

After Dark Films are back with another slice of horror in Re-Kill, which sees the dead rise up against the living and bring forth the apocalypse. You may have a tough time tracking down all eight of this year's "After Dark Originals" titles, as they've been sprinkled all across the media landscape: a few debuted on the SyFy Channel, some had cursory theatrical releases, a handful landed directly on DVD -- and it's all a little bit frustrating for a guy like me: a horror freak who writes for FEARnet and tries to see the newest horror flicks as early as possible. But I track 'em all down eventually, and the two most recent arrivals on the DVD shelves are the surprisingly strong Seconds Apart and the unsurprisingly rote, dull, and generic Fertile Ground, which is the one we're here to discuss today. I'll keep it short. The...

After Dark Films went into production on several horror films, which have mostly released in late 2010 and early 2011. Seconds Apart is one of the latest After Dark Originals to be released and this horror film moved to DVD May 24th. This is one of director Antonio Negret's first features and from early in the film, one knows this film is going to be a tragedy. If the mention of Aristotle's Poetics does not tip you off, then the screaming victims will. There is so much to cover in this excellent film, but focusing on the twins, their abilities and their desire to feel fear seems an appropriate start.
The film begins with Seth (Gary Entin) and Jonah (Edumund Entin) attending a party, which later leads to a brutal game of Russian Roullette. Few survive this dangerous game and later,...

Personally, I'm happy I didn't already pick up the two disc DVD release otherwise I'd feel guilty for the double-dip.
The Big Bang - From Anchor Bay comes the Tarantino-esque neo-noir starring Antonia Banderas. I have to admit the trailer for this one caught my attention, but I have a feeling it could either be a unique off-the-wall blend of neo-noir and scifi... or a tedious exercise. We'll see I guess.
Fertile Ground - We've also got two horror releases from After Dark Originals this week. The first is this gory ghost story that comes from Ado mainstay Adam Gierasch (Autopsy, Night of the Demons). Just got a screener of this,...

A pair of telekinetic twins use their powers to murder anyone who poses a threat to them by staging it to appear as a suicide, but a hot headed detective suspects their is more to these "suicides" and starts digging around.
Intriguing film starts out promisingly enough with a disturbing set piece, but as the film progresses, the film places too much emphasis on the detective character (played by Orlando Jones) who does nothing to enhance the story. As a result of this, it takes away from the screen time of the Entin twins who turn in pitch perfect performances. There is something so undeniably creepy about these twins and the performances that they deliver. Whenever Seconds Apart focuses on the family dynamic...

Who doesn’t love an action movie with high speed chase scenes, the loud noise of massive engines and an awesome plot?! This Summer’s Fast Five may have taken the cake (even with the hard to believe bank vault scene), but I’m ready and waiting for next summer’s planned release – Overdrive! Just announced, the upcoming action flick entitled Overdrive comes from director Antonio Negret (Seconds Apart & Transit), and will follow a pair of handsome and adventurous brothers” to be played by I Am Number Four’s Alex Pettyfer, who just landed one of the leading roles in Channing Tatum’s biopic Magic Mike, and ‘Leap Year’ star Matthew Goode whose set...

When After Dark films changed things up last year and went from "8 Films to die for " to their new "8 Originals" it definitely made a wise decision. To me the titles I've seen so far from the "8 Originals" have been a step in the right direction. Which brings me to the DVD release of Seconds Apart.
Seconds Apart is a story about twin brothers (Seth Trimbleand Jonah Trimble) with deadly telekinetic powers. The two are close and always together and up to something until one of the brothers meet the new girl at school, Eve (Samantha Droke), it's always about a girl aint it. Anyway as the two grow close and the other twin watches the brothers slowly grow apart. All along as this goes on Detective Lampkin (Orlando Jones) is hard on their trail as he investigates the latest horrific murder all while mourning the death of his wife who...

Let’s face it… Special Makeup FX are the backbone of the horror genre. As engaging as storylines can be, as believable as acting is, and as competent as directing and cinematography are, fans pay money and put their asses in those seats or buy those DVDs and Blu-rays because they love the creatures.
Back in the 1980s FX artists were like rock stars. Names like Savini, Bottin, and Baker were spoken in revered tones. People went to see films because of who was doing the FX. As the years progressed, FX artists refined techniques, CG was introduced, new materials were brought into play, and what was once a discipline soon became an art form.
One FX artist who’s recently been helping elevate that art form to new heights is Vincent J. Guastini. His contributions to such films as Requiem for a Dream, Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima,...

Two more trailers for two more After Dark’s 2011 flicks: the creepy “Seconds Apart” and the more generic looking “Prowl”. The former features MadTV’s Orlando Jones as an honest-to-goodness serious cop, and I have absolutely no idea what is going on in “Prowl”. Zombies? Cannibals? Experiments gone awry? Something like that. Plus, if you missed it, the last After Dark trailer was “Re-Kill”, which you can catch again here. “Prowl” runs for its life in theaters January 28, 2011. Amber dreams of escaping her small town existence and persuades her friends to accompany her to find an apartment in the big city. When their transportation breaks down, she and her friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi. But when the driver refuses to stop and they discover the cargo is hundreds of cartons of blood, they panic. Their panic turns to terror when the truck disgorges them into a dark,...
