Are you beautiful?
Alicia_Hansen28 April 2023
Some believe that beauty is subjective, while some say it's inclusive. Beauty can be held in the eye of the beholder, peeling back layers that are so rich it takes a lifetime to see them all. It can be something that you're born into, or something that matures over time. It can carry depth and meaning, and sometimes it just carries unrealistic expectations. Who are we? Whose image are we made in? If we answer that question, beauty can simply just be breathing. Beauty is life.

It's not often I feel inspired to write a review, but "Beautiful One" has done just that. While I am eager to share details of the film, I will hold back for those who haven't seen it yet. But I can't stop myself from commending the apparent love and care that went into making it. The heart of the film begins at the core, with a beautifully woven script that will challenge every woman who's ever asked themselves, "Am I beautiful?"

Stacey Bradshaw shines as the lead character, Mabel, establishing a solid foundation of her character right from the very beginning. What I found so intriguing about her from the start is her transparency as an actor. I never have to wonder what she's thinking because she reveals that to us, whether it be acting or reacting with other characters. She shows us, rather than "telling" us, which is more impactful in my opinion. It's her exceptional talent here that allows us to glimpse the mystery behind her character as well. Her humility.

Leading man Thomas Scott is just as notable as Nolan and will capture your attention with his charm and charisma, while leaving you guessing until the end. He brings a lot of depth and authenticity to his character, making you forget you're watching a movie, which I find extremely rare.

The movie does a great job keeping the romance between the lead characters intriguing but wholesome. One poignant scene, which I believe is the heart of the film, allows us to witness some raw emotion from Mabel in a very heartwarming and romantic moment for the viewers.

The movie would not be complete without the outstanding supporting cast. I found each character very likable as each one contributed a great deal to the story. There were several very humorous, poignant, and emotional moments that these characters brought to life in a memorable way.

I found this movie very touching and something I can relate to on a personal level. I believe it's a message that most women can relate to.

So, I ask you again. Are you beautiful? I think you'll find your answer to that question by the time you finish this movie.
