The story of a silently brave woman
jdowling22 July 2011
The trailer gives little clue to this story. A story about a female minister who seems very religious in a robe and high pulpit feels like it would not be a story I'd be interested in, but I was curious.

It's a documentary but more in the style of a docudrama.

The minister tells her life story, which is not necessarily one you might suspect. She's a southern lady who left it all for a religion not like the one she was raised in. She had to keep her past and her feelings all a secret from the church members.

During the 2-yrs. of the making of the movie, something unexpected happens. It is what really makes the movie captivating and endearing. I was deeply touched by this story.

It is a great example of a woman who is silently brave in American society.

Beautiful movie

This is one of the most touching and beautiful movies I've seen in years.

The film is an amazing emotional journey for both the protagonist and the viewer.

The movie follows the protagonist – a hugely successful, beloved minister – while she contemplates giving up her ministry and confronts other major life changes, facing her deepest fears and personal pain in the process.

Her honesty and raw emotions are a gift to the viewer, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles, especially those concerning finding love and purpose.

As a good friend said, there's no way you can see this movie without being changed in some way.

Bravo to everyone involved in making this movie and thank you!

Wonderful story, thoughtfully told
phoebetron2 November 2012
Raw Faith focuses on Portland, Ore.'s Unitarian minister Marilyn Sewell. She's a complex and fascinating woman approaching a crossroads in life. It's very interesting and truly raw to see her with the level of intimacy this film provides as well as her family and other relationships. The filmmakers thoughtfully bring the viewer into her story with the perfect balance of intimacy and breathing room. Thoroughly engaging, compelling, entertaining and beautiful. I'm not sure if you'll be able to watch without crying, as it is incredibly moving. Also, this is a great portrait of Portland, Oregon. An absolute must-see!
