Well done

Warning: Spoilers
Gavreel (Kokoy De Santos) and Cairo (Elijah Canlas) started as fellow gamers but after getting to spend some time together at Gavreel's house, they've become lovers. But when Cairo must return home, they learn that distance and the pandemic stand in the way of their love.

Based on the first Boys' Love series in the Philippines which aired in the U. S. on Netflix, Gameboys: The Movie is the next part of the story. Despite the boys finally getting the opportunity to see each other in person, their time is limited, as Terrence (Kyle Velino) and Wesley (Miggy Jimenez) interrupt and Gavreel's aunt Susan (Angie Castrence) appears and brings her homophobia to their lives.

I really liked the way the movie used screens to show the story and allowed me to learn who the boys were in a way that dialogue wouldn't be able to. You know, I never would pick this movie to watch and I'm so glad I did. It brought me into two lives that I would otherwise not be able to experience and that's what great cinema can do.

Gav and Cai, love them.
lisa-honeyplease31 July 2021
So I bought a ticket and yes it's worth it. I don't know what to say about these two but to watch them you'd think they loved each other deeply. Their story is beautiful, Pearl is my absolute favorite. I could have done without the side stories but it is what it is. Gav and Cai forever my favorite BL couple.

It's not just their story. IT'S OUR STORY. IT'S OUR NARRATIVE.

One of the most beautiful love story that I've ever witnessed - a story of two young people who fall in love and who are willing to sacrifice. I felt all the emotions. Characters are so relatable. I'm so excited to see what will happen to Cairo and Gavreel. Thank you, The Idea First Company. MASTERPIECE.

MASTERPIECE

Gameboys The Movie did that! They were able touch certain topics that is relevant in the lives of young LGBTQ+ peeps in the Philippines without being morally imposing. And what's seperate this BL from other Pinoy BL is their topnotch acting.

Props to every member of the Gameboys team. You guys did an exceptional job! This is the gold standard of Pinoy BL.

Absolutely Beautiful

They have such, such good chemistry, and are amazing actors. Watching the international live stream felt like being in the cinema.

I can't wait to see the sequel or another series.

some feelings
j_movie3 September 2021
The feelings are sincere enough, but the first half of the film is too tired. For an audience who has not seen the drama version, it is a little incompetent to accept it. Until the aunt appeared, the atmosphere of the plot finally returned to normal. On the whole, it was still youth pain growth literature, and there was not much new idea, but their "first time" was very beautiful.

Even greater than the series
cruzbryan-543941 August 2021
For that whole year of waiting I was kinda anxious as to whether the new season/movie can actually top all the greatness that Season 1 delivered. And after seeing the movie last night, I am confident to say that it did, it topped it surpassed and went beyond all the kilig, the drama, and all that. The first few minutes were very reminiscent of season 1 and will remind you why you loved the series in the first place, the rest allowed us to see the development in the characters and their relationships. We all know that the main characters can really engage, but i also enjoyed seeing the secondary characters especially if you are like me who loved all that took place in Alt Gameboys 13.5 truly, I'll be a fan of this masterpiece forever. Expect great things ahead for season 2.

Breathtaking visuals and a captivating story
sylviepaige31 July 2021
It's not very often that we get to see a drama in the Philippines that goes against all the usual tropes of kidnappings, back stabbings, and jealous mistresses. Gameboys had proven even back in 2020 that they can create a story that's both entertaining and relatable for a generation of teens and young adults that suddenly found themselves confined in their own homes. This is a value that they managed to continue in the film, and I absolutely loved it!

The simple show of domesticity and familiarity felt like home, something that I know very well but still remained exciting and unpredictable. The film managed to break me and heal me in the span of less than two hours. It was beautiful, riveting, and inspiring, and it left me wishing even harder for the characters to find their happy endings.

Phenomenal!

Warning: Spoilers
From the cinematography to the small details, it was absolutely phenomenal! Kokoy and Elijah's acting were so great that I actually forgot that I am watching a movie. Especially on the ending, damn. I was literally wailing. They touched some of the issues that most LGBTQIA+ peeps are facing nowadays. Kudos to the team! Hoping for a special season!

Did not disappoint
Caribtony4 December 2022
I heard about the series through a YouTube review and decided to check it out for myself. I found the series cute, fresh, lively. However, to me, the only thing missing in the series was the lack of physical interaction between all the actors. This movie delivered on that aspect and did not disappoint! You feel the closeness and friendship between the young actors throughout the movie. The chemistry between Cai and Gav is genuine, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Kokoy de Santos (Gav) played the serious parts - a change from his character's upbeat silliness. And yes, I was snotty and teary eyed at the end because this movie reminded me of that time in my life when I first met my special circle of friends that are still an important part of my life today. Thoroughly enjoyed this!!!

GAMEBOYS The Movie is an amazingly inspiring movie teaching the viewers that love is stronger than any obstacle in life.
stefaniepowers-8914921 November 2022
I rated this a 10/10 because it deserves it. GAMEBOYS The Movie is so inspiring to me. Especially since I am dealing with gay discrimination within my family's inner circle. I've been 'rocked to my core' by this tear jerking movie. This movie is so intriguing that I cried with the characters so many times. I wanna thank these beautiful actors from the bottom of my heart. They have given me the strength to fight for the love of my life, like she does for me.

This movie is my favorite Drama to watch when I need inspiration after being shamed. Thank you, IdeaFirst Company, thank you Koyko de Santos and Elijah Canlas for being the light in my dark. That little bit I needed to find I didn't need my family's approval as long as I was happy.
