Ray gets dumped!
jotix10024 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Ray is stood up by Jemma as he waits in vain for her to appear for their boat outing. When he calls her, he tells her he can't imagine what might have happened. Jemma gives him a piece of her mind; what's more, as far she is concerned, she wants to take a breather from him. Ray is puzzled because as far as he knew everything was going fine.

Ray seeks Tanya to discuss his recent troubles. She is sympathetic, up to a point. To make matters worse, Ray goes to see his former wife Jessica at her new home she shares with her new husband, Ronnie. Things go badly at the dinner table. Ray finds out his son has a pierced tongue, which irritates him. Later on, when Ronnie is in the kitchen doing the dishes, he asks Jessica's new man whether his money had anything to do with their divorce. Ronnie asks him to leave. Jessica, visibly upset goes to Ray's to inform him their split had nothing to do with Ronnie's money!

The new newspaper ad appears. Tanya gets a call from an interested woman. It turns out it's Lenore who knew all along the offering had to do with Ray offering his services for sex. At the same time, Lenore suggests Tanya to sell Ray to women that are in desperate need of sex, like Patty, the proof reader. Patty, succumbs to a session with Ray. At the motel, Patty surprises Ray in her approach to sex with him. She turns out to be a screamer and a moaner! Patty is a woman that has no life; she likes animals and loves going on vacation to places where she enjoys visiting zoos and other attraction sites.

Ray has to confront Jemma. We watch him as he waits for her with a letter in which he had poured his soul out to her. Jemma tells him point blank she never wants to see him again. She walks out leaving Ray holding the letter, which he proceeds to tear out. Jemma evidently wanted to dump Ray to see what it felt how it is to be left by a lover, as has been her experience.

Tanya finds Pierce strange when sex is involved. She wants to know what is in his mind, but she's not able to figure it out. Ray, who goes to a bar to drink, has a strange experience when a guy he used to know tells him he wants to have his revenge at a batting place because what Ray did at a game. Ray proves to be an amazing foe.

As Ray gets soaked walking back to his tent, he is surprised to find Tanya inside. She has brought $2,000 from Jemma. She explains to Ray the reason behind his breakup and how superior Jemma now feels. Tanya wants reassurance from Ray as far as her performance in bed. Ray tells her she has nothing to worry about.

Another good episode of this series. Brett Leonard is credited with the writing. He follows the story line, connecting the dots among the different situations in an amusing manner. Bronwen Hughes, who has worked extensively in television, makes all the elements come together in surprising ways.

Thomas Jane, Jane Adams, Anne Heche, three of the regulars do their magic to get the viewer into the situation. Ms. Adams is a joy to watch because she is so real. Mr. Jane is a natural. Natalie Zea has good moments as Jemma. Lauren Weedman is funny as Horny Patty. Joshua Leonard appears as Pierce.

What Jemma Really Wanted
JasonDanielBaker12 October 2012
Gigolo/high school teacher Ray (Thomas Jane) fails in attempting to turn Client Jemma into girlfriend Jemma. As difficult as she was to please as a female John she remains the one woman he has met since his split from his nightmarish shrew wife (Anne Heche) that made him feel anything like he did in happier times. Jemma's requests of him doing complicated romantic things as a prelude to their trysts appear to have had more of an effect on him than her. This episode reveals her true motives.

Sulking Ray dines with his ex-wife, their kids and her dorky but affluent new husband Ronnie (Eddie Jemison).

Sensing tension he steals a private moment with the man who has displaced him and dryly asks Ronnie a few questions the guy is already asking himself the substance of which is really just one question i.e. "Ya got what ya wanted Chump but do you want what ya got?". The moment flatters neither of them but Ray felt so bad about how his life came apart he can't help himself.

Crass, profane and generally inconsiderate to the point of being hurtful Lenore re-establishes contact with Tanya (Jane Adams) offering a lead on a new client for Ray i.e. a sexually frustrated co-worker 'Horny Patty' who is very easily satisfied but not particularly wealthy. Lenore is set to join the series as a regular.

Inspiring friendship, authentic acting, realistic and sad story but missing cartoony scenes and short format of the living dead
igoatabase6 May 2010
Tanya and Ray are the strangest friends but the closest thing to female and male friendship I have ever seen on TV. Their authentic profiles and the skillful acting of the performers continue to make them grow on us. As expected there was something sad about this installment as Jemma didn't show up at the end of the previous episode. I knew something was wrong with her and the development of that arc was quite surprising. It's like in the real life, people keep doing the same mistakes over and over. It's like a neverending sad story. However in Hung things are not just pictured in their darkest light as the writers found it more appropriate to also shadow the doubts of the protagonists with brighter moments and exquisite dialogs. Even if I miss the crazy scenes involving the mother or the children there're still plenty of elements to appeal the heart and soul. First I really liked the sad music theme and it perfectly suited the scenes it was used in. Second the relationship between Ray and his ex-wife was developed and we learned why she broke with him. Let's hope it'll help him to become a better man and motivate him because even if it hurts to know the truth I think it's better than believing in naive happy endings. Like in Dexter the show is all about fixing the broken doll within and solving complex issues. Will Ray ever manage to save himself from his Dark Passenger ? I bet he will ! You can only be successful with such a big brain in your pants after all.
