The mansion, sitting atop a hill in Westchester County, New York, could be mistaken for any number of homes in the area, save for one little, er, big, thing.
In the driveway, feet from the front door, there is the battered severed head of a giant Sentinel, one of the antagonists to the X-Men.
The house, overlooking rolling hills north of New York City, was until recently a residential home. For a few months however, Airbnb is taking it over, turning the home into a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, as featured specifically in the Marvel Animation series X-Men ’97.
That includes an interior that has been meticulously hand-painted so as to appear two-dimensional, as in the cartoon, with the bedrooms, Professor X’s office, Beast’s lab, and even a “danger room” available for guests to explore.

She's everything, he's just Ken.
Greta Gerwig's gigantic blockbuster "Barbie," which was recently nominated for eight Academy Awards, is a clear metaphor for the Garden of Eden. At the beginning of the film the many Barbies, including Stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie), live in Barbieland, a place where women are in charge of everything, the world is innocent and perfect, and there is no strife nor thoughts of death. The many Kens in Barbieland are all deeply in love with the Barbies, and pretty much don't exist unless the Barbies are looking at them. The central Ken of the story is played by Ryan Gosling, and he dreams of having a sleepover with Barbie at some point. There is no sex in Barbieland, but Ken is driven by a remote, lizard-brain romantic impulse to be Barbie's boyfriend.
It's when Barbie and Ken leave Barbieland and enter the real world that...

2024 Oscars Best Production Design overview: Can any of the other 3 nominees surpass ‘Barbenheimer’?
A critically important craft to filmmaking is production design. The production designer is responsible for the look of a film, which includes finding locations, designing and building sets, and running the art department. Although the name of this category has changed over the past nine-and-a-half decades, the general principle is the same, with this Oscar going both to a film’s production designer(s) and its set decorator(s).
This category doesn’t usually match the ultimate Best Picture winner; the last time that happened was in 2017 with Guillermo del Toro‘s “The Shape of Water,” and before that was Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2003. One of this year’s nominees didn’t even receive a Best Picture nomination.

She’s been a doctor, U.S. president and a movie star but in the U.K. Barbie may go down in history as the only doll to have contributed almost $100 million (£80 million) to the local economy.
The long-anticipated “Barbie” movie, which came out this summer, was largely shot in the U.K. at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, just outside London.
Now Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed that the Greta Gerwig-helmed film resulted in a massive boost to the U.K. economy thanks to the hiring of more than 6,000 extras, creation of 685 jobs and patronage of more than 750 local businesses.
Hundreds of U.K.-based crew-members helped to recreate Barbie’s Dreamhouse (slash Mojo Dojo Casa House) inside the studio, with a number of heads of department — including production designer Sarah Greenwood and costume designer Jacqueline Durran — hailing from the U.K. The film’s U.S.-based cast,...

If you’re making predictions for the 2024 Golden Globes, you’ll need to add two more categories to the list. The Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement revolves around nominees from this year’s highest-grossing and most-viewed films with an emphasis on global impact. Nominations for each category are set to be announced on Monday, December 11, 2023, with the 2024 Golden Globes going live on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

As recounted in this week's Tales from the Box Office column, "Blade" screenwriter David S. Goyer was told by New Line studio head Mike Luca that the budget he got for the movie would depend on which lead actor he could attach to it: "I'll make it for $40 million if you can get Denzel Washington, 35 if you can get Wesley Snipes, and 20 if you can get Laurence Fishburne."
25 years after "Blade" hit theaters, star power is still a major factor in studio calculations, which is why movies like "Strays" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" tend to recruit celebrity "face actors" for their voice roles, rather than less famous but more experienced voice actors. The value of celebrity stars comes not only from putting their names in the trailer and on posters, but also from the actors themselves promoting movies on the talk show circuit, on press tours, and finally on the red carpet.

The "Barbie" movie is here and it is an absolute hit. What may have seemed like a joke a few years ago has turned into one of the year's best movies. "Barbie" is a fantastic exploration of the legacy and meaning of the titular doll that changed the game and forever left its mark on the culture, a movie that is as goofy as "The Lego Movie," while also being as serious and thematically resonant as "Little Women."
One of the weirdest parts of the movie involves, well, Weird Barbie. Kate McKinnon plays a reflection of the nightmare fuel that results from many a doll loved just a little too hard. She has messed up hair, mismatched clothes, lots of drawing around her face, and very, very flexible joints.
Indeed, this Barbie just can't stop doing the splits, whether it's standing up and leaning on a wall or doing a...

"Barbie" cannot be stopped. At the time of this writing, the Greta Gerwig film has become a proper pop culture sensation. Some of this can be attributed to the heartfelt writing, especially a monologue by America Ferrera that describes the experience of being a woman in modern society that will bring tears to many eyes. Then there are the fantastic performances, most notably Margot Robbie as Stereotypical Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. However, perhaps more than anything, it's the sheer joy of seeing the world many children have imagined over the decades as a place full of real beings.

Of all the movie references crammed into Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster “Barbie,” the most important is “The Matrix” because it serves as the foundational basis for Barbie’s (Margot Robbie) journey from the feminism of Barbie Land to the patriarchal “real world” of Century City and Venice.
That’s the moment, of course, when Weird Barbie (Kate McKinnon) offers Robbie’s Stereotypical Barbie the choice of maintaining the status quo with the pink heel or escaping to the real world in a Birkenstock to solve her existential crisis.
For production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer (who have six Oscar nominations between them), Barbie Land was unknown territory. But it was instructive to have the contrast between Barbie Land and L.A. in the script by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach.
“Not that it’s real, but L.A. was a given,” Greenwood told IndieWire. “Even though we’re [British] outsiders,...

Greta Gerwig's new film "Barbie," based on the (in)famous Mattel-brand doll, begins in Barbieland, a pink, plastic, artificial world where all the women are Barbie and they're all inspiring. The president is Barbie, the Supreme Court is nine Barbies, Barbies run the businesses, and the most recent winner of the Nobel Prize in literature was Barbie. There are Kens in Barbieland as well, but they only exist to vie for the various Barbies' attention. Ken (Ryan Gosling) longs for Barbie (Margot Robbie).

Celebrity couple Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig looked elegant at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships over the weekend, as the pair wore sunglasses to watch the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. The 20-year-old Spaniard went on to win in an upset.
The married couple donned formal outfits in addition to the spectacles. Weisz wore a light khaki blazer over a white collared shirt, while her husband opted to wear a light gray suit over a white collared shirt and gray striped tie, the only pop of color being a crimson pocket kerchief.
Craig and Weisz have been married since 2011, tying the knot in a private (and secret) ceremony with only four people in attendance: Craig’s daughter, Ella, Weisz’s son, Henry and two close friends. In September 2018, the couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter whose name has not been announced to the public.

Margot Robbie says 'Clueless' inspired her wardrobe in the 'Barbie' movie. The 32-year-old actress stars as the title character in the upcoming movie from Greta Gerwig and revealed that they turned to Amy Heckerling's 1995 classic 'Clueless' for inspiration.Margot told Architectural Digest: "We were saying that the wardrobe in 'Clueless', like, the bar was set so high, and we would really like to do something that is as cool as that."Each day, her outfit is already magically here in her wardrobe. She opens the doors, all she needs to do is look at it, gives a spin, and then it’s on her body and she walks off, and her outfit for the next day is sitting in the wardrobe behind her."Meanwhile, Margot previously revealed she doesn't remember having her own Barbie doll but was obsessed with the famous Dream House.

“Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge” will feature eight teams of HGTV superstars (and one Food Network star) as they transform a Southern California home into a real-life Barbie Dreamhouse, as supermodel Graham — who has her own Barbie modeled after her and will be driving a Barbie pink corvette on the show — hosts. The teams will overhaul areas of the home with an era-specific style, such as an early 1960s atomic age kitchen, a ‘70s disco vibe for Ken’s Den and a main bedroom decked out in ‘80s glam.

Naomi Watts is no stranger to making horror movies with kids. She was phenomenal in Gore Verbinski's remake of Hideo Nakata's "The Ring" as a mother desperate to save her son from the fatal consequences of having watched a cursed videotape. She also appeared in Jim Sheridan's "Dream House," which leans in part on the old creepy dead girls trope.
So Watts is right at home in Matt Sobel's remake of Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala's "Goodnight Mommy," in which a woman, swathed in facial bandages, is reunited with her young twin sons (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) after she's undergone extensive, yet unexplained cosmetic surgery. All her boys know is that the blinds must be drawn due to her light sensitivity, and they cannot enter her bedroom or office. Her strict nature strikes the boys as odd. As they spend more time with her, the...

Awkwafina is set to star in and produce a feature film about the rise of the California punk rock music scene with Topic Studios, the studio announced Tuesday.
The film will be based on article on Topic.com called “How Chinese Food Fueled the Rise of California Punk” by Madeline Leung Coleman as published in June 2019.
The article explains how during the recession of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Chinatown restaurants from Sacramento to San Francisco started renting their banquet halls for rehearsal space and booking the rowdy young bands of nascent West Coast punk as dinner entertainment to bring in additional business. It asserts that these Chinese and Filipino restaurants became some of California’s most important venues and the focal point of the seminal West Coast punk music scene.

We’ve got a new promo spot to share with you for Tim Burton’s Dumbo, and this thing is packed full of new footage for us to enjoy! Most notably Eva Green, who jumps on Dumbo’s back for a ride as they soar through the air. There’s also interesting footage of Dumbo flying free through a beautiful green landscape filled with other elephants raising their trunks to him as he flies above them. It’s actually a pretty magical trailer.
I also including a new featurette that highlights the reunion between Danny DeVito and Michael Keaton, who both worked together on Burton’s Batman Returns.
Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But...

We’ve got another magical trailer to share with you for Tim Burton’s wonderful looking adaptation of Disney’s Dumbo. I’m pretty happy with what I’ve seen from this movie so far, and this latest trailer is filled with some great new footage.
Some of the footage features Dumbo being prepped for flight and Michael Keaton saying that the flying elephant makes him feel like a child again. I’m pretty sure that is the point of the movie. To make the audience feel like a kid again.

Jennifer Lawrence‘s love life has been as diverse as her film career.
The Oscar-winner, 28, is engaged to art gallery director Cooke Maroney after nearly a year of dating, a rep for the actress confirmed to People on Tuesday.
From dating an art dealer, a rock star, an actor and a director, Lawrence has had a wide range of real-life love interests.
Though the Red Sparrow star has previously joked about the lack of romance in her life — “What dating life?” she said in 2016 — here’s a look back at her dating history, including what she’s previously said about finding love.

Disney has shared a new international trailer for Tim Burton’s wonderful looking live-action adaptation of Dumbo. The trailer is filled with new footage as Danny DeVito's circus owner Max Medici, Colin Farrell’s character Holt Farrier, and the rest of the circus family are introduced to a newborn elephant that has giant ears. Lionsgate and Summit's action-comedy The Hitman's Bodyguard finished ahead of pre-weekend expectations and took the #1 spot at the weekend box office while WB and New Line's Annabelle: Creation scored a second place finish over its sophomore frame. The weekend wasn't too kind, however, to Bleecker's Logan Lucky, which did manage to finish third, but was unable to crack double digits from over 3,000 locations. As for the weekend overall, the top twelve narrowly escaped becoming the worst weekend of 2017 by less than $1 million by combining for $81.5 million. As of right now, this means the month of August is currently pacing 34% behind August last year while the summer season is pacing 12.8% behind last year. With an estimated $21.6 million, Lionsgate's release of The Hitman's Bodyguard finished #1 at the box office. This outperforms Mojo's pre-release forecast and is just a shade below historical averages for a film of this size and genre from Lionsgate.

One can only hope director Nick Corporon's shorts (I've seen two) and his feature debut, Retake, are not autobiographical. All of his male characters are semi-despondent romantics. For most of its running time, there’s nothing especially wrong with “The Secret Scripture,” the latest film from acclaimed British director Jim Sheridan. There’s just nothing particularly right about it, either. Disjointed and disinterested in entertaining any and all prospective viewers, the overlong slab of melodrama is one of the most vanilla experiences at the movies in quite some time. It’s some kind of feat that Sheridan’s return to cinema (his last film was 2011’s “Dream House”) manages to redefine what it means to be relentlessly bland. It opens on Roseanne McNulty (Vanessa Redgrave) and the discovery of her long-hidden diary.

Writer-director Jim Sheridan has built a career off the plight of the Irish working class, with his best films (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, and The Boxer) all starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Lately, without Day-Lewis, Sheridan has been stuck in a rut of average American films (Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Brothers, Dream House) and yet I still had somewhat decent expectations for his newest work, The Secret Scripture. It does, after all, star one of the very best actresses working these days, Rooney Mara. As evidenced in Carol, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Her, The Social Network, and more, she can detail a world of emotions with just a glance at her piercing green eyes.
The Secret Scripture has Mara playing young Roseanne McNulty, a free-spirited Irish woman whose beauty lures every man in her small town, even Father Gaunt (as played by Theo James), who...
