The Mistaken Fur
JordanThomasHall2 April 2018
Riley (Jackie Gleason) finds a box while riding the bus. He and Waldo (Bobby Jellison) open it to find an expensive silver fox fur wrap- what Peg (Rosemary Decamp) has always wanted. He plans to take it back to lost and found the next morning and returns home on what he has forgotten is Peg's birthday. She naturally assumes the box is her present and quickly opens it to jubilation. He now tries to figure out how to tell Peg. Meanwhile, he decides to place an ad in the newspaper about the lost fur that comically reads, "If you think that I found something that you lost, try to prove it." Riley, Waldo, and Gillis (Sid Tomack) conspire to stage a fake robbery to get the fur. When Peg finds the truth, Riley faces an uphill battle to patch things up.

This clearly inspired the "I Love Lucy" episode "The Fur Coat".

The one that got away

Riley sure does get himself in another mess! He innocently found a strange package on the bus. Though Waldo tries to convince him to do the right thing and take the package back, Riley looks inside and finds a silver fox fir. He takes it home, intending to take it to lost and found the next day but his wife believes it is a birthday gift.

Now Riley has to figure out a way to turn it into the station. There is a sad part near the end when his wife learns the truth. A huge rift develops between Riley and his wife and his kids try to repair the damage.

A good episode and a lesson in honesty and right from wrong.
