Overall I liked it! Ricky and Nini finally breaking up after building towards it since before they even got back together (think somewhere between the YAC introduction and "not all couples are meant to be together" à la Lynne Bowen) feels refresing and right. Their futures don't seem compatible to me and it's definitely a nice change of pace.
What I did not like was that it made Ricky cry. It's understandable, of course: He just broke up with his longtime girlfriend! It's just very depressing. I hate seeing him cry and combined with Howie's beautiful rendition of "If I can't love her", I definitely teared up.
Speaking of Howie, I'm super thankful they didn't make him a huge (fill in the blank, can't use "profanities") who was just using Kourtney and seemed genuinely apologetic about not telling her about everything. Kourtney standing her ground was 1000% well deserved though, she still got hurt and making that known was important. Kourtney and Howie's dynamic is one that I really enjoy, and I usually don't like fastburns.
Nothing much to say about Gina and EJ. I liked them as friends, but as a fellow 18 year old, having EJ crushing on a 15-16 year old Gina is a very weird choice.
Red was lovely in this episode. Good for him for getting his moment in "Gaston" (they definitely need to do more rehearsal scenes, they're so fun) and awesome that he was able to communicate his feelings about his dreams to Ashlyn. It was sweet. They both still definitely emit some very strong gay vibes, but they have their moments.
So, the episode had a few moments that I didn't like, but it was enjoyable and very, very emotional. Excited for Jack next week!
