What really happened during the 48 hours leading up to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — at least according to mob bosses — is heading to the big screen in the upcoming film “November 1963: The Killing of a President.”
The mob’s version of events were passed down to Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana’s nephew, Nicholas Celozzi, by Sam’s brother, the late Joseph “Pepe” Giancana, who drove around with his brother Sam during those two days.
“The reason why there’s this fascination or anxiety is because people know that what they’ve heard so far doesn’t make sense,” Celozzi tells Variety of the ongoing interest in the circumstances surrounding JFK’s assassination, even 60 years later. “They keep talking about it because they’re waiting to hear something that makes more common sense.”

Sky has unleashed the full official trailer for the limited event series, ‘Mary & George,’ starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore alongside Nicholas Galitzine.
is inspired by the outrageous true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover.
Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors.
And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.
Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and...

For the past few years, Joel Silver has kept a relatively low profile, his most recent credit on the little-seen “SuperFly” remake of 2018. Still, the hard-charging producer behind some of the biggest hits of the ’80s and ’90s was attempting to mount a comeback. And his prospects looked promising with a series of feature film and TV projects at Amazon that were based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker noir crime novels.
Alas, the Silver comeback has hit a snag. Sources say Amazon has fired the polarizing Hollywood figure from at least two films — one starring Mark Wahlberg, the other Jake Gyllenhaal — for being verbally abusive to two female executives. But sources close to Silver say Amazon is retaliating against the producer after he pushed back on the studio’s calls to use artificial intelligence to finish a movie during the strike. “It was a contributor to the specialty box office, and I hope it will be again,” says Laemmle CEO Greg Laemmle of MoviePass, the subscription service that unsurprisingly went bankrupt in early 2020 after offering a movie a day for ten bucks a month.
A co-founder Stacy Spikes, who was pushed out amid strategic differences with new owners, including the $9.95 plan, acquired the assets out of bankruptcy in 2021. He relaunched MoviePass yesterday after months of beta testing. The movie-a-day-plan, which left the service subsidizing most tickets, “was never going to work,” Sikes tells Deadline. AMC had actually threatened to sue, saying the plan wasn’t sustainable and set consumers up “for ultimate disappointment down the road.” Its bankruptcy filing listed more than 12,000 subscribers it may have owned money to.

Exclusive: Zoey Deutch is set to co-star in the Warner Bros and Clint Eastwood pic Juror #2 starring Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette. Jonathan Abrams penned the script. Adam Goodman, Matt Skiena, Tim Moore and Jessica Meier will produce.

"Help me find her, Peyami." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Turkish series titled The Tailor, or just Terzi in Turkish, streaming on Netflix this May. Another localized offering from Netflix as part of their deal within many different countries right now. Terzi tells the story of Peyami, a young and famous tailor who inherited talent and a business from his grandfather. Peyami begins to sew a wedding dress for his best friend's fiance – but all three have dark secrets that will soon upend their lives. Of course, as usual. Starring Çağatay Ulusoy, Salih Bademci, Şifanur Gül, Olgun Şimşek, Ece Sükan, Zeynep Özyurt Tarhan, Murat Kilic, Celile Toyon, Vedat Erincin, and Lila Gürmen. Looks like an intensely melodramatic series, with perilous secrets sewn right into the tapestry of the story involving multiple generations, lovers, affairs, and more. Instead of watching this, I'd recommend watching Mark Rylance in The Outfit as a tailor.

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.

Chicago – The date of November 22nd, 1963, will always have meaning to certain generations of people as to the where-were-they-when-they-heard that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The City of Chicago was not immune to this event, and three odd connections became apparent as the news broke and in the subsequent associations that emerged afterward.
The facts of the assassination are these … President Kennedy was making a political swing through the State of Texas, on the cusp of the 1964 presidential election, a state which he barely won in his 1960 victory. The Dallas stop on the trip included a motorcade parade – in the presidential limousine were two Secret Service drivers, Kennedy, his wife Jackie, Texas Governor John Connally and his wife Nellie – through the downtown area before a scheduled speech at the Dallas Trade Mart. As the parade was ending at 12:30pm Central Time, shots rang out near...

Quentin Tarantino’s second book, Cinema Speculation, is as hard to put down as his “novelization” of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. His film education began at age 7, when he quickly warmed to the violent R-rated movies he makes today. Now, the mission for this interview was not to get Tarantino to rehash controversies for soundbites — like answering yet again what he wished he could have done to stop Harvey Weinstein’s predatory path or talking about his next film. Tarantino’s also keeping his multi-ep TV series plan quiet, the one he dropped on Elvis Mitchell. He did say he would only...

Plot: A young woman falls in love with an enigmatic stranger. He is someone who shares her taste for human flesh. Together, they struggle to survive in a world that doesn’t understand them.
Review: Bones and All is just your typical, flesh-eating cannibals fall-in-love type of romance. You know, the kind where a girl meets a boy, and then they eat people. Not too familiar, perhaps, but nothing filmmaker Luca Guadagnino does, is. His latest is a strange and dreamy romantic drama, yet one that slips in and out of horror in intriguing ways. Thoughtful, quirky, and unconventional, the film features excellent performances from its leads, Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet. And then there is Mark Rylance, who brings on the weird as a fellow named Sully. Let’s dig into the meat of this one, shall we?

Not too familiar, perhaps, but nothing filmmaker Luca Guadagnino does, is. His latest is a strange and dreamy romantic drama, yet one that slips in and out of horror in intriguing ways. Thoughtful, quirky, and unconventional, the film features excellent performances from its leads, Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet. And then there is Mark Rylance, who brings on the weird as a fellow named Sully. Let’s dig into the meat of this one, shall we?

Cinema Speculation by Quentin Tarantino (Harper)
Quentin Tarantino wrote one of 2021’s most notable film-related books, a tremendous novelization of his own Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He follows that success with what just might be 2022’s best film-related books, Cinema Speculation. It is a collection of essays built around films seen during his adolescence that impacted him greatly. Some, like Deliverance and Taxi Driver, are canon. Others, like 1973 crime drama The Outfit, are not. The experience of reading Speculation is akin to hearing Tarantino zip through his childhood movie habits—the text mostly focuses on films...

Richard Stark's Parker books are pure pulp pleasure. They're nasty, unsentimental crime novels written with a brutal economy. The prose is stiletto sharp, the stories shaved to the narrative bone. Once you read "The Hunter," which introduces us to the underworld shenanigans of a skilled robber named Parker, you have to read them all – and you can do so in a remarkably short span of time. These books are short and addictive.
Stark's work is so thrillingly vicious that you're occasionally concerned for the author's mental well-being. The author might actually be worried, too, as Stark is the pen name for legendary noir novelist Donald E. Westlake. By all accounts, Westlake, who passed away in 2008, was a lovely man, which makes Parker's adventures the most entertaining therapy sessions ever put to paper. Better to type out one's worst, repressed impulses than act on them.
Unsurprisingly, Quentin Tarantino is a massive Stark fan.

Exclusive: Apc Studios UK and Irish independent production company Tua Films (aka Magamedia) are co-producing Irish dark comedy-crime drama Obituary exclusively in the U.S. for streaming service Hulu, with RTÉ in Ireland pre-buying the series.
Irish TV and theatre actress Siobhán Cullen, whose recent credits include family comedy-drama The Dry and crime drama The Long Call, stars as Elvira Clancy, an obituarist working at a small-town newspaper, who suddenly finds herself being paid by the obituary due to cuts.
When she “accidentally” kills a nasty piece of work, she discovers she might have an untapped bloodlust, and sets her sights on other unpleasant residents of the town. Her killing spree hits a potential snag when the paper hires an attractive crime correspondent.
The six-part series is written by Irish scriptwriter Ray Lawlor (Le Ceangal), directed by John Hayes and produced by Nell Green.
Apc Studios’ Laurent Boissel and Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes are executive producers of the series which is being made in association with Fís Éireann/ Screen Ireland, Bai and The Wrap Fund.
“It has been a blast pitching this wonderful high-concept drama to various funders and broadcast partners over the past few years — an obituarist who resorts to murder to stay in a job,” they said in a joint statement.
“We’re genuinely thrilled that Hulu and Rte are already on board and it’s super exciting to be bringing it into production now in the West of Ireland,” said Boissel and Hayes.
Obituary goes into production in Ireland in 2023 and will exclusively premiere on Hulu in the U.S. later that year.
It marks the latest Irish drama series to attract U.S. investment, coming after Lionsgate boarded TG4 and Streamz drama series Northern Lights, as Deadline revealed at the time.
Cullen is currently filming Bodkin for Netflix, following a critically acclaimed run alongside Ralph Fiennes in Straight Line Crazy at The Bridge Theatre.
Paris-based independent production and distribution company Apc Studios is headed by Emmanuelle Guilbart and Boissel. Its Apc Studios UK recently produced Wolf for the BBC in co-production with Hartswood Films and The Light in the Hall with Duchess Productions and Triongl for S4C, Channel 4 and Sundance Now.
Galway-based Tua has over 20 years’ experience in the Irish entertainment industry, with recent credits including Irish Oscar entry Foscadh and TV drama winning Corp + Anam starring Maria Doyle Kennedy and the teen musical comedy-drama Eipic.

Warner Bros. Discovery has had a rough go of it recently. The newly-formed mega corporation’s decision to callously prune HBO Max’s servers of hours of content has led to mountains of bad PR and billions of dollars in market cap losses. Suffice it to say, a jam-packed list of new HBO Max releases for September 2022 would provide some welcome relief for the “House of the House of the Dragon.”
Unfortunately, HBO Max’s new releases this month are uncommonly light. It’s impossible to say whether this is the result of more Wbd meddling or simply some bad scheduling luck but either way it’s not going to make any executives’ seats less warm. There are only a handful of notable originals this month, led by season 2 of the Spanish language comedy Los Espookys on Sept. 16. That is joined by a pair of documentaries, Escape from Kabul on Sept.

With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).
Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

As of June 30, we’re at the halfway point for 2022 — and for the Oscar eligibility year. There are dozens of possibilities coming up and many familiar elements — plenty of biopics, a reliance on fall film festivals, a heavy dose of streamers — but this could be an unusual year.
In the first six months of the year, A24’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” seem likely. They would have been Oscar longshots a decade ago, but both should do well since voters’ tastes are changing.
Also notable this year: The roster of directors is far more inclusive, in terms of gender and race, than in the past.
While the upcoming crop includes past winners like James Cameron, Damien Chazelle, Alejandro Inarritu, Sam Mendes and Steven Spielberg, there are new hopefuls, including Chinonye Chukwu, Andrew Dominik, Sebastian Lelio, Sarah Polley and Gina Prince-Bythewood, to name a few.

Zoey Deutch is the most hated girl in America — well, at least in the teaser for her new film “Not Okay.” But that’s because she told a very big lie after a terrorist attack.
The footage is prefaced by a warning: “This film contains an unlikeable female protagonist. Viewer discretion advised.” So, what exactly makes her so unlikable? Well, she gained fame and attention for surviving a terrorist attack in Paris — except she wasn’t actually there.
“Have you ever wanted to be noticed so badly, you didn’t even care what it was for?” Deutch’s character, Danni Sanders, says in a voiceover. We then see the process she goes through of photoshopping herself into Parisian backdrops, while claiming she “almost died” in the attacks she was nowhere near.
As the footage continues, we get snippets of the horrible titles Sanders has earned since, including “all-American liar” and “#1 Idiot.

The Paul Mescal-led “Aftersun,” which will world premiere at Critics’ Week in Cannes next month, has been picked up for sales by Charades.
Directed by Charlotte Wells, the drama is billed as an intimate story about a young father and his 11-year-old daughter, Sophie, who are on holiday at a resort in Turkey in the late 1990s. The film stars Mescal, the breakout star of “Normal People,” as the father and new talent Frankie Corio as Sophie.
Here’s an official description of the film: Sophie (Corio) reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a holiday she took with her father (Mescal) 20 years earlier. Memories real and imagined fill the gaps between MiniDV footage as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she didn’t.

Marvel and D.C. Comics will never team their two biggest superheroes, but this week sees Spider-Man and Batman go head to head at home. “The Batman” (Warner Bros./29.99) is likely to displace “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony/19.99) as the #1 title on PVOD charts next week.
“Spider-Man” is #1 again for the fifth week on all three charts we follow, an unprecedented achievement and one that “The Batman” will not repeat. It’s the top-grossing film of 2022, but at 365 million that’s less than half of Marvel’s 2021 monster hit. “The Batman” also has more competition, and not just from upcoming releases like “Uncharted” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
Its biggest competition is itself: Warners announced last week that the film would debut on HBO Max April 18. That’s the same day it became available on PVOD, but Warners provided no promotion for its same-day availability.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” (Sony/19.99) retains its spot as #1 on all three VOD charts for a fourth week, a record since IndieWire started tracking home viewing. Next week, the film could extend its streak — but expect that to be the end with the impending debut of Warner Bros.’ “The Batman.”
Sources with knowledge of Warners’ plans indicate “The Batman” will be made available on PVOD April 18 — the same day it starts streaming on HBO Max. Even a blockbuster of this size will feed the studio’s streamer after 45 days.
“The Batman” was the first Warners release since the end of the studio’s “Project Popcorn,” which gave 2021 theatrical releases day-and-date play on HBO Max. In that period, the studio usually delayed PVOD for at least 60 days after initial release, and it began after the initial streaming period ended. This will be the first opportunity to gauge its new home-release strategies.
