The Shining fans unite

Warning: Spoilers
Ah the references that no kids these days will get. Fun to see all of them and understand them. A new take on an old classic. Very fun. Had me laughing and my little ones had no clue why. Can't really explain it to them. Not till they are older and able to watch The Shining. Then we can revisit this cute show and maybe they'll understand it and appreciate it. Well done to Pixar for doing this. Someone in the office is surely a horror fan and a classic one at that. Here's hoping the whole show is like this. That would be great for parents everywhere. Means no catchy songs to deal with. Just some fun cartoons based on fun characters and references that will fly over kids heads but will make it enjoyable for everyone to watch.

Not for younger kids
lilfin00712 September 2022
This episode gave my 2 year old nightmares and we didn't even watch the whole thing. It's a spoof off of the movie The Shining by Steven King and is just overall not appropriate for young kids. There's a part we're the twins turn evil looking and chase McQueen down a narrow hallway. We turned it off after that.

So disappointing because he absolutely loves Cars so I was so excited to see this come out. But most of the episodes are too frightening especially this one.

This is definitely a lesson for me to screen shows before I let my kids watch them even if the have a "G" rating.

Older kids might like it but I would definitely use caution for younger kids.

Really disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
My two year old really loves lightning McQueen, so we were obviously excited when this show came out, but honestly, I'm very disappointed. This episode specifically is really scary and Stephen King's "Shining"-esq and just all around unnecessary for small kids or even kids who are older. It's too scary. At one point in the show McQueen is chased by a giant green "ghost" type truck and he can't seem to get away. Mia and Tia (the twins from the first movie) play a role similar to the twins in the Shining. As a mother and a professional that has a heavy background in child development, I just don't understand how something like this is geared for children. I wanted so badly to like this show, but it really just missed the mark for our family.

Inappropriate for young kids

Warning: Spoilers
I was excited to watch Pixar Cars on the Road with my three-year-old, but I was taken aback when the episode turned out to be a so called kid-friendly adaptation of Stephen King's horror classic, The Shining. The episode may have been intended as a nostalgic nod to parents who grew up watching the movie, but it was not appropriate for young children.

The characters and setting were based on The Shining, with eerie music, spooky lighting, and even a car version of the infamous "Here's Johnny" scene. It was all too much for my little one, who had nightmares the night after watching it and has been scared of the episode ever since.

I'm not sure why Pixar thought this was a good idea. While I appreciate a good homage to a classic horror movie as much as the next person, it should have been left out of a children's show. It's disappointing that the creators didn't consider the impact this could have on young children.

I strongly advise parents of young children to steer clear of this particular episode of Cars on the Road. It may be an innocent-looking cartoon, but the content is definitely not suitable for little ones.

NOT G, NOT KID FRIENDLY
scottsbarrett23 October 2022
This gave my child nightmares. I turned it off as soon as I saw it reference the shining. Shocked Disney would release this and give it a G rating. The shining is a spooky show, and while I'm not superstitious I do feel evil is real and the shining is a small portal to evil in this world. Having read the book and seen the movie they both leave you feeling unsettled. I know it is fictional story but I feel it discusses a side of things that exist in this world and that are very scary. Very disappointed. The person at Disney who approved this needs to have their job taken from them. More for parents than kids.
