I couldn't stop watching!

Wow, what an amazing story! I was instantly hooked and was so invested in the outcome that, for one hour, nothing else mattered. I've always found WWII hardware fascinating, I have no idea why, and this well preserved plane really was a Holy Grail type of find. This programme details the extraordinary lengths that a handful of people went to in order to try to salvage her. It really is a rollercoaster of highs and lows, so much so, that I'm writing this review some twenty years after watching it. That's how much of an impression it left on me.

If you love old planes, or extremes of human endeavour, then this is a must see!

A Valiant Effort

Warning: Spoilers
Darryl G. Greenamyer, an excellent pilot for America's aerospace industry, leads an expedition to the Arctic Circle to try and salvage a B-29 bomber which crash-landed in that region many years ago.

Greenamyer's innovative attempt to bring back the 'Kee-Bird' (B-29) is a triumph of human spirit and ingenuity. But this story has tragic proportions as one member of the team dies due to injury while the plane itself ultimately catches fire and burns to the ground. Despite these horrific events, this was a brave and remarkable endeavor.

Well worth the 50 minutes it takes to view this fine NOVA episode, especially for aviation enthusiasts.
