In the film, “When the vile James Brothers murder an innocent woman to take over her land, her dying breath places a curse on the family through a scarecrow. Years later, a descendent of the James family has taken his friends to the old cabin for the weekend. They soon find the curse and the scarecrow are still wanting blood.

The first original production from new genre studio Welcome Villain Films, Malum is an expanded reimagining of the 2014 horror movie Last Shift, and it’s in theaters on March 31.
While you wait, begin the ritual with a brand new poster below.
Directed by Anthony Diblasi (Last Shift, Dread, Extremity) and co-written by Diblasi and Scott Poiley (Last Shift, Missionary, Exhume), the same creative team behind 2014’s Last Shift, Malum reimagines the original critically-acclaimed horror hit.
“On a search to uncover the mysterious circumstances surrounding her father’s death, a newly appointed police officer, Jessica Loren, is assigned to the last shift in a decommissioned police station where a notoriously vicious cult saw their demise years prior. The lone officer at the station, she soon finds herself barraged by terrifying paranormal events and, in the process, is taken on a journey during which she learns the shocking truth behind her family...

"Your daddy started something very important..." Welcome Villain has unveiled the official trailer for an indie horror film titled Malum, arriving in theaters only at the end of March. This is actually a new remake of the 2014 horror film Last Shift, made by the same filmmaker updating his own film, similar to the way Sam Raimi made Evil Dead 1 & 2. Helmed by director Anthony Diblasi and co-written by Diblasi and Scott Poiley, Malum re-imagines the original critically-acclaimed horror hit from the festival circuit and expands on the filmmaker's vision of nightmare-inducing terror. A rookie police officer willingly takes the last shift at a newly decommissioned police station in an attempt to uncover the mysterious connection between her police officer father's death and a vicious cult. This updated film stars Jessica Sula as Jessica Loren, with Kevin Wayne, Monroe Cline, Candice Coke, Valerie Loo, Clarke Wolfe, Natalie Victoria. This does look pretty freaky.

Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report today that new genre studio Welcome Villain Films’ first original production, previously known as Untitled Last Shift Reboot, has a new name
The official title treatment and new film stills have been unveiled for the film, now titled Malum, along with an announced Spring 2023 nationwide theatrical release.

Warner Bros. Discovery has turned into the most chaotic, uncertain place in the film industry almost overnight. After the studio decided to cancel "Batgirl" and "Scoob! Holiday Haunt" despite both films having finished filming in an unprecedented move, they also removed streaming original films from HBO Max, proving the instability of streaming.
Under the leadership of David Zaslav, the century-old studio is going through monumental changes, from the big franchises all the way down to the uncertain futures of TV shows with cult followings. The latest show to reportedly fall victim to Zaslav's Terreur is the fan-favorite "Young Justice." After two seasons on Cartoon Network, the show was canceled in 2013 reportedly because it was not selling enough toys. It wasn't until six years later that the show made its triumphant return with a third season on the shortlived DC Universe streaming service, an underrated platform that gave us such gems...

It’s been 20 years since the last original 2D entry in Nintendo’s classic science-fiction franchise, but “Metroid Dread” is exciting proof that one of gaming’s most well-known IPs still has plenty of life left in it. “Metroid Dread” is an expertly paced and satisfyingly challenging side-scrolling adventure bound to overjoy anyone who has ever liked moving a video game character to the left or right — even if the “Metroid” formula isn’t quite as fresh as it was several decades ago.
A lack of innovation, especially compared to recent side-scrollers such as “Hollow Knight” and “Ori and the Will of the Wisps,” is the only real negative that can be levied at “Metroid Dread,” and though it’s a valid criticism, it’s more than made up for by the game’s high level of polish and overall consistency. If you’ve previously played a 2D “Metroid” title...

"You like that, don't you? Being dangerous." Dread Presents has revealed the first official trailer for a funky horror film titled Val, from filmmaker Aaron Fradkin. Not to be confused with the excellent documentary Val about Val Kilmer, this is a feature film that dips into something else entirely. Fin is a wanted criminal for the murder of his boss. He decides to hide out with a high class escort named Val, who's really a demon. Val offers to make his problems disappear if he follows her rules. She has been expecting him all along and it won’t be easy to escape Val's dungeon. Misha Reeves stars as the titular Val, short for Valefar, joined by Zachary Mooren as Fin, with Erik Griffin, Sufe Bradshaw, Kyle Howard, and John Kapelos. This is a very kinky, wacky concept that looks simultaneous extremely cheesy and seriously terrifying. Have fun. Here's the...

Metroid Dread is an unexpected new installment in the original mainline series that goes all the way back to the Samus Aran’s debut on the Nes in 1986. Picking up threads from Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion, the new 2D side-scroller follows Samus on the trail of the X parasite once again. After the Galactic Federation loses contact with an Emmi (Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers) unit sent to investigate the planet Zdr, where the X parasite from Fusion is rumored to have survived, Samus takes on the mission herself, and quickly finds dangers and terrors unimaginable.
“The series has chronicled the uncanny relationship between Metroids [parasitic life-forms that can we weaponized] and the heroine Samus, but this game will mark and end to that story arc,” said game designer Yoshio Sakamoto in a developer diary released during E3 2021.

Whenever Metroid comes up, I always think of how hard it must have been to squeeze the phrase “The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace…” out of the Snes sound chip for Super Metroid. After all, spoken words in games were still uncommon in 1994, and most other 16-bit titles were more than happy to be able to relay important dialogue through text. Metroid had always been a little different, though.
While that spoken dialog may have felt revolutionary, the words themselves weren’t entirely accurate. After all, the galaxy is never really at peace in the Metroid franchise. Upcoming Nintendo Switch game Metroid Dread promises to end the story that began in 1986’s Metroid, but that remains to be seen. What we do know is that Dread will be the latest entry in a proud line of Metroid adventures that task us with exploring, searching, and...

While many of us were expecting to learn more about Metroid Prime 4 during Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct presentation, we were more than happy to see Nintendo instead reveal Metroid Dread: a 2D Metroid title from the same studio that brought us Metroid: Samus Returns for Nintendo 3Ds.
The reveal of Metroid Dread stunned many fans who were prepared for just about every announcement besides this one, but the news has come as less of a shock to those who have been following Metroid Dread‘s development for over 15 years.
Yes, Metroid Dread is the resurrected version of a previously canceled Metroid project, and the story of how it got from there to Nintendo’s E3 2021 showcase is absolutely fascinating.
Metroid Dread reports first began to spread in 2005 when the title was briefly mentioned in Game Informer magazine and appeared on a leaked list of upcoming Nintendo releases. At that time,...

The arrival of Clive Barker’s Books of Blood in 1984 and 1985 was an earthshaking event in horror literature. No less an authority than Stephen King called Barker “the future of horror,” leading to a tsunami of acclaim for the six volumes of collected short stories. Barker’s vast imagination, his creation of new monsters that eclipsed standard fare like vampires and witches, and his visceral, blood-soaked prose were a jolt for the horror genre that probably influenced a generation of writers and filmmakers.
Speaking of the latter, a number of stories from the books were adapted for the screen, including the title tale itself (which acted as a framing device for all the stories), “The Midnight Meat Train,” “Dread,” and “The Forbidden,” the latter of which formed the basis of the soon-to-be-rebooted Candyman franchise. Barker himself directed Lord of Illusions, based on the Books of Blood story “The Last Illusion.

It was while I was researching The Book of Horror, an illustrated guide to the scariest movies ever made, that I first started seeing things.
Not the full Haley Joel Osment, you understand, but what we’ll call a seventh sense. I’d catch glimpses of something out of the corner of my eye, and my mind would fill in the blanks with spooky imagery because I was consuming so much of it.
It didn’t help that my son had just been born. Lack of sleep combined with horror movie overload is a condition I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Night becomes dawn becomes day – the full George A Romero – and reality becomes harder and harder to rely upon.

Kevin Bacon has had a long and successful career in Hollywood. Spanning more than 40 years, he’s been in a number of hits including Animal House, Footloose, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13 and Mystic River. Just don’t ask him about Friday the 13th. It’s a sore subject.
But one movie that doesn’t get mentioned enough is the 1990 monster classic, Tremors. Bacon plays Val McKee, a not too bright cowboy who has two goals by the end of the film: kill the giant worm creatures and get the girl.
Tremors has become a cult classic and a couple of years ago, the Syfy channel made a pilot with the intention of creating a television show continuing the franchise. And for the first time since the original, Bacon was starring in it. The funny thing is, though, they never went forward with the series, and it’s a...

I’ll fully agree with Josh Millican of Dread Central when it comes how Cell was viewed by those that found it to be so divisive, but I’ll also say that it was likely because people looked in a warped mirror and didn’t like what they saw. The movie is pretty simple really, a man that went off to pursue his dreams and basically abandoned his family is on his way home to reconcile and is stuck in the middle of the airport waiting for his flight. Dieter Laser, the German actor who appeared in The Human Centipede (First Sequence) and The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) has reportedly passed away. According to Dread Central, who picked up the news on social media, Laser died on February 29th aged 78. The actor, who also showed up in Lexx and a number of German productions, was perhaps best-known for his role as Dr. Josef Heiter in Tom Six’s controversial 2009 film, where he attempts to create a ‘human centipede’ out of unwilling victims.
Laser was born in Kiel in 1942, and despite doubts due to his fundamentalist Christian upbringing, broke into acting aged sixteen when he asked the doorman at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus theatre in Hamburg how to become a performer. Beginning work as an extra, he developed a career in the theatre, including as co-founder of the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin. Ask any horror fan worth their salt and they’ll no doubt swear blind that there’s no Elm Street without Robert Englund.
Even in 2010, when Englund endorsed the casting of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, long-time fans of the slasher series still pined for Robert Englund’s inimitable performance as the Midnight Mangler.
Now, almost a decade later, and there’s been no movement on the planned reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street. While some reports mulled over the possibility of bringing back the original cast – similar to how Halloween of 2018 brought back Jamie Lee Curtis and many of her co-stars – Robert Englund has been quick to play down any potential reunion with the Elm Street franchise.

I’ve seen all manner of hideous, gruesome and bizarre monsters tearing people limb from limb on screen. So, with a bog-standard non-supernatural lion as the monster, can Uncaged really deliver the goods? The Dutch horror-comedy shows Amsterdam being menaced by a lion (that apparently just appears in town without explanation), with the city falling into a panic as its citizens are munched on by the ferocious and hungry beast.
Uncaged‘s trailer includes lines like “amazing how one lion can stop an entire city…,” “this isn’t just a lion…” and “the last thing I want is to turn Amsterdam into a hunting ground.” It also promises an action scene where a lion tears up a subway car, fights a Swat team and engages in a motorcycle chase.
