Back to the good old days
idrincon2 April 2021
I have been watching the show since day 1 and by far the better seasons were the Olivia-Elliott days. From the first scene the chemistry was there. It wasn't a great episode but just seen them act together even for a few minutes made my day.

Watch for yourself 1st then decide

While the political stuff in the show does get annoying sometimes, I was able to overlook that and focus on the darkness, intensity, emotional feels and excellent performances that Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay brought.

The Haters Make Me LOL
MrsTheFrog2 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just a few notes before I start. 1) This episode pulled in the highest ratings for SVU in 4.5 yrs, so saying everyone was relieved when Chris left is patently false. 2) Dick Wolf, Chris, Mariska, and most of the people involved in Wolf Entertainment are anti-Conservative & anti-Trump. Maybe the folx pissed about that should just accept that this is not the franchise for you, and move on? Just a thought. 3) Not one person who spoke about Chris's return hid the fact that the biggest part of it was going to be dealing with what happened with Liv & Elliot's relationship. Don't pretend like it was some big secret that the reunion was going to be about that, when the actors have interviewed about it nonstop. 🙄

The return of Elliot Stabler was basically everything that diehard fans of the original were hoping for. This is a gift that Chris, Mariska and Dick gave to the fans, like a love letter. The two leads are still in perfect lockstep, and their intensity is palpable. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you have stuck with SVU for 22 years, you will more than likely love this reunion. Don't listen to the haters.

Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe that they killed Kathy. I'm so broken that I refuse to follow over to Stabler's new show.

Marked down for the presence of Stabler
akicork24 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For me, one of the best moments in the entire run of the SVU series was when the Stabler character bowed out. His obsessive, over-violent and uncontrolled behaviour was a drag on all the Benson character was trying to do. Additionally, he is really a hollow character, presented as having an Irish Catholic background. As I have pointed out elsewhere, there are two people in the Irish telephone directory named Stabler or Staebler: compare that with the thousands of Stablers, Staeblers and Stäblers in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, and decide from what background he is most likely to have come. Austrian Lutheran would be my guess. His best contribution to the series was in having Kathy as a wife, while she produced an amazing family of delightful intelligent children. Their characteristics certainly had nothing to do with him, even if he'd been around, and the loss of Kathy really is a tragedy. I will not be watching his spin-off.

Not the writing we deserve
pisforpinkx3 April 2021
As lovely as it was to see Stabler and Benson back on-screen together, the episode was fumbled by soap opera-esque writing. The dialogue was slow and overworked, the score felt more like a 2010 cancer patient film than a hard-hitting crime-drama, and the focus of the show was pandering to viewers' expectations as opposed to solving the crime.

This decline in quality has been a slow burn over the past several seasons - switching from a fast-paced, procedural show that uses its format to explore the complexity of its criminal characters to an overwrought drama that is resting on its laurels and expecting it to be enough.

Liv and Elliott deserved better, and so did the fans.

This is why I stopped watching L&O SVU
scottca0752 April 2021
I used to love this show, even better than the original, but maybe six or seven years ago the show shifted from being about solving and convicting criminals and started to delve deeply into the personal lives of the characters. It ruined the show. If I want a soap opera I'll watch Days of Our Lives.

I only watched this episode because of the return of Chris Meloni. Unfortunately everything I hated about the "new"L&O SVU was here in spades and great new additional things thrown in to make me hate it even more. The opening was cartoonish. To call the writers sophomoric would be an insult to the comparative maturity of sophomores in high school everywhere.

Way to alienate half your fanbase
amberf-276859 April 2021
I have binged this show and was looking forward to this episode. This season has been grating. The politics in this are just not something that needs to be there. Yes, I get the actors of the show have their views but can we just not put that in the show. I watch to get away from reality not to have it shoved down my throat. The character of Cat is just awful. In this episode I wanted to throat punch her. She has been getting on my nerves for awhile. This was the straw that broke the camels back. I cannot continue to watch this show after this. I never even finished the episode. Awful....just awful.

Turn On The Action
jupiterscreen2 April 2021
I expected more out of this episode to be honest. The story has very little drive and revolves more around past emotions of the characters rather than trying to solve the actual crime. When it does get to that point, it's not even worth getting into as it is quickly brought to an easy out type of ending.
