From Warren Zevon and David Bowie to Gregg Allman and Pop Smoke and Mac Miller, posthumous albums recorded during an artist’s final months have become a sadly inevitable part of the pop landscape. That’s also the case with Things Happen That Way, the album Dr. John was working on when he died of a heart attack in June 2019. Now, three years after his passing, the album, which includes covers as well as some of his last newly written songs, will finally be heard when Rounder Records releases it on Sept.

Brett Eldredge all but reinvented his sound with 2020’s Sunday Drive, leaving behind overly polished mainstream country for nuanced story-songs. To his credit, he’s not only sticking with the vibe of that album but building on it. His new song “Holy Water,” surprise-released on Christmas Eve to coincide with Eldredge’s association with the season, is a grand piano number that shows off the Chicago-area native’s range. It’s decidedly not a holiday song, but it does paint in similar tones of hope and redemption.

The Way Down Wanderers’ latest album More Like Tomorrow is a journey: The Peoria, Illinois, band blends string music with art-rock dramatics and boasts two lead singers in brothers-in-law Collin Krause and Austin Krause-Thompson. When they harmonize, it’s halfway to a religious experience.
But the five-piece — rounded out by drummer John Merikoski, bassist John Williams and banjoist Travis Kowalsky — aren’t out to proselytize. They just want to change your world, or at least provide optimism during demoralizing times.

Hours after Tom Morello appeared on The Tonight Show to perform “Hold the Line” with the help of Grandson, the guitarist announced his second LP of 2021, The Atlas Underground Flood, out Dec. 3rd.
The Atlas Underground Flood serves as a “sister album” to Morello’s The Atlas Underground Fire, which arrived in October. Like its predecessor, the upcoming LP is an all-star affair, with a guest list that includes Jim James, Rush’s Alex Lifeson, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Nathaniel Rateliff, Manchester Orchestra, Ben Harper, X Ambassadors and many more.

Last year, one of the biggest surprise sleeper hits was Denis Villeneuve’s crime-thriller Sicario, starring Emily Blunt as an FBI agent who teams with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro to fight the Mexican drug cartels, before learning her teammates may be almost as corrupt as those they’re chasing.
The movie ended up grossing $47 million domestically and $37 million overseas, and it received 3 Oscar nominations including one for Johann Johannsson (who we just happen to have an interview with next week). It proved successful enough that the producers decided to pursue a sequel featuring Brolin and Del Toro’s characters. The film, titled Soldado (or “Soldier”), is currently filming for a release sometime in 2017.

Montreal (AP) -- Pole dancers dressed like nuns, Mike Tyson and nonstop theatrics. Welcome to the church of Madonna. The pop star kicked off her "Rebel Heart'' tour in Montreal on Wednesday night, belting out a mix of her iconic hits and new music from her recently released album, also titled, "Rebel Heart." She even performed "Material Girl'' for the first time since 1990's "Blond Ambition'' tour. DJ and producer Diplo warmed up the crowd with an hour-long set. The show opened with a video featuring Mike Tyson, Chance the Rapper and Madonna, where she addressed topics ranging from censorship to dictatorship. She then descended to the stage in a cage. Madonna wasted no time getting to fan favorites including "Burning Up'' and a mash-up of "Holy Water'' with "Vogue.'' She then pulled a classic move and ripped off her skirt to reveal a barely there nun's outfit and started to pole dance.

With the release of her new Rebel Heart album on Tuesday, Madonna's balancing her roles as both provocative musician and mom. So how do her kids (Lourdes, 18, Rocco, 13, and 9-year-olds Mercy and David Banda) feel about her racy songs? "Lola's horrified by all of it. She just wants me to be her mom," Madonna, 56, told Carson Daly of her college-age daughter on the Today show Tuesday. As for the younger ones? "At this point, Rocco doesn't care. It just goes over. He's like, 'Ugh, Mom. Mom's being Mom,' " Madonna, 56, said. "The other little kids aren't tuned into that frequency yet.

Madonna's latest album, Rebel Heart, is a triumph. First, there's the rough release timeline. Hackers leaked it. Then they leaked some more of it. Then she released parts of it herself in December, then again in February, before officially dropping the full record Tuesday. And do we even have to mention #CapeGate? But the pop icon's 13th (!) album in 32 years is worth the wait. Rebel Heart accomplishes what her last two efforts, Mdna (2012) and Hard Candy (2008), couldn't: She brings the innovation while also paying just enough homage to her best moments. Add in sex, sacrilege, genuinely personal lyrics and some killer hooks,...

What if the zombies from George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead shambled through malls in real life? How would you react if your town’s population transformed into vampires reminiscent of those in Stephen King’s ’Salem’s Lot, or if werewolves prowled your backyard and demons possessed those you hold near and dear? The folks at In Case Of have the decorative answers to these four scary “what ifs?”: sealed emergency cabinets containing survival tools to use against zombies, vampires, werewolves, and demons.
Founded by two childhood friends with a passion for supernatural survival, In Case Of has five limited edition cabinets that are now available. Each cabinet comes with weapons and tools useful for protecting yourself from a certain type of monster. For example, the zombie cabinet includes a 12-gauge short barrel shotgun, the vampire case comes with two vampire stakes, while the werewolf cabinet...

You may have noticed an increase in dick pics on your Instagram and Twitter feed recently, and that’s no coincidence. Last month, B.o.B. Since posting the photo on Dec. 12, 2014, the hashtag’s gone viral, and lost its signature subtlety. What was meant as term to describe the bulge in your sweats, underwear, or pants, has now taken on a completely new meaning. And basically the meaning is: “It’s Friday, here’s a picture of my dick.” If you can stomach having your eyes assaulted by penis pictures, and are about 10 feet away from your coworkers, just plug in #eggplantfriday on your Instagram.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Written by Wes Craven, Bruce Wagner, Frank Darabont, and Chuck Russel
Directed by Chuck Russell
USA, 1987
I’m not sure there is a single line in the history of slasher films that had more of an impact on the future of the genre than this line from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. For the first two and a half films of this series, and the first few films from the other major slasher series of the day, there was a lo-fi authenticity to the films. Michael Myers stalking through the house in Halloween, the creepy intensity of Ms. Voorhees in Friday the 13th, Freddy’s claws coming through the walls in an unreal but significantly unsettling way in the original nightmare. Even when a little kitsch seeped through it was more creepy than funny. And all of that changed in Dream Warriors.

Inner Demons is presented as a faux documentary, in fact it is presented as a video work in progress, all raw footage shot with hand held cameras and caught on security video systems. "American Horror Story: Coven" brings us a fun Halloween offering, delving more into various characters' backstories plus adding a delightfully creepy cliffhanger.
Fiona Goode and the Supremes
The Council has come to town to investigate Madison's disappearance. Nan called them because she can no longer "hear" Madison in her head. Myrtle (Frances Conroy) is the head of the council and she's had a rivalry with Fiona since they were classmates at Miss Robichaux's back in the 1970s. Myrtle has always suspected Fiona killed Annaleigh in order to take her place as Supreme and now she suspects she killed Madison.
Myrtle is right, of course, but it turns out butler Spaulding has been in love with Fiona since way back when and he's willing to protect her -- even if it meant cutting out his own tongue 40 years ago to keep him from being compelled to testify against Fiona to the then-Council.

Devil’S Eggs
Serves 2 Satanists Hungry For Despair
Preparation:
Use the dark arts to create a fiery Hellpit (a portal to Hell).
Barter with the Hellpit’s demonic Senior Manager to procure 1 dozen rare and delectable Devil’s Eggs. This should only take about 20 minutes, if you’re prepared for the consequences.
Pairs well with Slow-Roasted Goat, Human Meatloaf, and Strawberry Crepes. That being said, there’s no better way to be one with Satan than devouring His offspring along with a bowl of Penta-Grahams™.
Cooking TIme:
15 minutes (or the time it takes to read and understand a page from Dante’s Inferno)
Ingredients:
1 lifetime of Evil Deeds 1 dozen Devil’s eggs 2 ounces Goat Horn Powder 1 tablespoon Mustard ¼ cup Mayonnaise [replace with more mustard, if like me, you think that Mayonnaise is a far more infernal creation than anything found in Lucifer's humble abode] 1 quart Beelzebub’s Finest Unholy Habanero Hot Sauce™ 1 bucket The Blood of 2 Virgins Salt, Pepper, & Paprika – more or less to taste Optional: 1 Severed Left Hand (preferably a dominant one)

Sequels are popular because they are brands: You see a trailer for Transformers 2, you know what you're going to get. More Transformers! Works like a charm. And this works in just about every case, except there are some movie titles that don't make any logical sense to sequelize. For example, check out the just-released poster for next March's release of The Last Exorcism – Part II, which obviously once carried the working title Whoops, This Girl Needs to Be Exorcised Again, But We've Got New and Improved Holy Water, So This Time We Can Guarantee It's the Last Time. Eli Roth's production joins a pantheon of obliviously ironic sequel titles. The Endless Summer II How two summers can be simultaneously endless is a conundrum best explored by philosophers, mathematicians, and stoners — hopefully all at the same time and while sharing the same surfboard. Home Alone 2: Lost in New...

We open in a preschool, where a little kid has somehow managed to smear himself with lots of paint. The teacher jokingly scolds him about it, then takes him to the washroom to clean up.
Only, it isn’t a teacher, it’s a demon wearing a teacher meat-suit. Once the washroom door closes, a small freak tornado hits the school. The washroom door bangs open to reveal the teacher and the kid are missing.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the backwoods, Dean is breaking the 11th Commandment, “Thou shalt not Eat in the Car,” while rocking out to "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", when he spots a lone figure walking along the road.
The figure looks a lot like Cas, so Dean backs up and starts looking around to no avail.
Disappointed, he reaches the base-camp – Rufus’ old house – where Sam tries to make some lame joke, “I was...

Here's the good news, "Supernatural" fans -- Sam and Dean will reunite early in the Season 8 premiere, titled "We Need To Talk About Kevin" -- and you can see them say hello in their own way in the clip below. Holy water, soap, blood... it all means "Hey, I missed you!" in Winchester, right?
The bad news comes for Castiel fans when Dean reveals that Castiel died (sort of) in Purgatory. It seems that Castiel gave up the fight, and while Dean didn't actually see him die, he "saw enough" to know that Castiel didn't make it.
Call us crazy, but after seven seasons of "Supernatural," we don't believe anyone's dead unless we see it happen. And even then, it can usually be reversed. We know that Castiel will appear in at least eight episodes this season, and potentially more. While we hear that Misha Collins has thus far only filmed flashback episodes in Purgatory,...

If only this was a sit-com, what an uproarious work The Devil Inside would be. From this critical angle, (perhaps after proper lubrication, Alamo Drafthouse why aren’t you near me?) you could settle in for solid camp. Sober, the comparisons to Rick Santorum’s stance on abortion are uncanny – oops – spoiler alert.
Of course I can spoil this film all I want to. It is, as the Blues Travelers say, the hook that brings you back. The hook here is similar to many a film in this genre; people freaking out, bleeding and a lot of “the power of Christ compels you!” Holy water is spilled and things go boom in the night (thanks to Dolby surround sound).
Directed on a modest budget by William Brent Bell, who previously made the decent PG-13 horror flick Stay Alive, there are some sick pleasures to be found in The Devil Inside,...

In a world where belief in God is controversial, belief in the existence of an evil devil that has the capability to possess human beings is even more fantastical. Scientific minds repeatedly refute possession as a mental sickness, yet the fascination with the Catholic Rite of Exorcism continues to be a fascination for the film industry. “The Devil Inside,” an upcoming film slated for wide release from Paramount Studios in the U.S. on January 6th, appears to be another theatrical take on a subject many clerics avoid. Let’s face it—the idea that an evil being can take control of our human body is terrifying, even to the servants of God.
Scary as it may be, this film makes me excited, and even though Paramount is marketing the film as: “Not authorized by the Vatican,” I think the Catholic hierarchy should be ecstatic that Hollywood is placing Catholic...

Director: Dominic Sena. Review: Adam Wing. The last few years have been kind to Nicolas Cage. Admittedly, The Wicker Man left the hive with about as much sting as a flutter of butterflies, but since then we have been treated to the likes of Bad Lieutenant and Kick-Ass. The Sorceress Apprentice was underrated, frothy escapism, and all in all, Nicolas Cage has been having one hell of a hair day. Season of the Witch sounds like it should be a lot of fun - teaming Ghost Rider with Hellboy is a match made in heaven - but Dominic Sena (Gone in 60 Seconds) has mistaken his latest fantasy flick with a documentary for The History Channel. Perhaps the joke was lost on me, but even the line “We’re going to need more Holy Water” is delivered with po-faced sincerity. Not even a horde (I’m going with horde) of...

Season Of The Witch Blu-Ray 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment 2011/Rated PG-13/Running Time 95 mins List Price: $39.98 – Available June 28, 2011I can't honestly say I know what goes on in the head of Nicolas Cage, one of Hollywood's zaniest actors when he chooses a film, but it sure has been one hell of a ride. Cage earned respectability in Tinseltown by demonstrating an unwavering commitment to immersing himself in virtually any role, eventually earning an Oscar fifteen years ago for his work in Mike Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas. Three months later, Cage turned himself into an action star with the arrival of Michael Bay's The Rock in the summer of '96 and things have never been the same. There was a time when I didn't mind Cage making soulless action-adventure films because their success gave him the breathing room to take risks with small wonderful dramas like Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men,...

In Sunrise, Wyoming on March 5, 1861, standard spaghetti western music plays on a dusty deserted street. Two cowboys with spurs that jingle-jangle standoff while nervous townspeople appear through windows. Apparently 3 people live in Sunrise. The cowboys dramatically draw back their coats in tandem and we flash onto a Sheriff badge. Well howdy Sheriff Dean. He looks intensely as a clock nears noon. Yep, it's an old-fashioned showdown. Guns are drawn but we fade to a map of old Wyoming. Bwah! It's a Bonanza-style title card. As flames burn the middle, a flaming yellow "Supernatural" appears, before the discordant sound of the usual glass breaking. They always get the title sequence for "very special" episodes dead right.

The company was vindicated recently against safety charges, but did anyone notice? Eric Dezenhall on the "crisis capitalists" that destroy companies-despite being wrong.

Released on home video in 1994, Night of the Demons 2 is a bit of a surprise. The MPAA had spent the past decade beating up horror films is response to the slasher craze. The failure of the new Nc-17 rating was becoming evident, as most theaters and newspaper listings treated films with the rating like pornographic features (Showgirls didn't help much). The advent of home video was raising new concerns about children getting a hold of unrated horror films - with no one remembering that a decade ago, retailers were selling Rambo 2 toys to children.
So along comes this sequel to the cult classic with full frontal nudity and more gore than the original. Yet it earns an R-rating, which might seem rather surprising. Perhaps the MPAA was swayed by the ending,...

Youth In Revolt (12A)
(Miguel Arteta, 2010, Us) Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Justin Long. 89 mins
How many more times can Michael Cera get away with his "I'm the type of guy who never gets the girl" shtick? He always gets the girl. That might offer hope to pale, skinny dweebs everywhere, but it's getting a mite predictable onscreen. So here he expands his range with the invention of a suave imaginary alter-ego, "François Dillinger", who encourages his cultured but meek virgin to be irresistibly bad and dangerous in order to get the girl (Doubleday) – which, of course, he does. As he's driven to commit increasingly ludicrous acts, the movie becomes more desperate and less romantic, but hey! It's progress.

Linda Hamilton has hinted that she would love to return to the Terminator franchise and have a cameo in the next film.
The actress - who played Sarah Connor in the first two films - said reprising that role in a future Terminator flick or even playing a killer cyborg instead would be fun.
"Wouldn't that be great?" she smiled. "But I think that would require a certain kind of level of fitness. They wouldn't make a Terminator model of Sarah Connor at the age of 53, now would they?" she laughed.
"If they could find some way to bring my youth and strength back, not that I'm that far off track, but to be compared to one's self 25 years earlier, you take a risk."
Linda's latest role is in Holy Water, the tale of four friends in a remote Irish town who decide to hijack a shipment of Viagra and sell it in Amsterdam.
