Fun Episode but Certainly Could Have Been Better,
lesleyharris3030 September 2014
Wedding for Disaster is a great Simpsons episode with a very well written storyline and some very funny scenes.I liked this episode, but judging from its story matter I certainly think it could have been better, the idea of Marge and Homer having a real wedding seemed great, but it just didn't deliver as much as I had hoped. My favourite parts of the episode were certainly the Saw parody, which was hilarious, and Sideshow Bobs cameo, although I would have liked Bob to have a more important role.Wedding for Disaster is a very fun Simpsons episode.

After Reverend Lovejoy discovers that he wasn't legally able to marry Homer and Marge at the time, they decide to have their first real wedding, but it ends up being a lot more complicated that the long time couple expected.

This tarnishes the legacy of one of the greatest episodes of the show and fails to find a suitable replacement for it. Unforgivable.

Warning: Spoilers
Remember season 8's "A Milhouse Divided"? Its plot saw Homer get a divorce from Marge so that he could remarry her and give her a meaningful ceremony to replace the previous one. It's one of the greatest episodes from arguably the greatest year in the show's run. Well forget it because that wedding wasn't real.

This episode tells us that Reverend Lovejoy was not a real clergyman at the time he did that particular ceremony so the Simpsons are not technically married. The logical response would be to just head to a courthouse or something and just fill in some paperwork, I mean seriously? You've had the ceremony for goodness sake! But no. This is Zombie Simpsons we're talking about here and so we have them going for a full-on ceremony with Marge turning into a 'bridezilla' type. Naturally, it's spelt out repeatedly just to make sure we get it.

Things get worse as Homer is gone on the big day. Marge, being uncharacteristically selfish in this episode, thinks he's ran away but he's really been kidnapped by his sister-in-laws. They've always disliked him in the past but this crosses the line as we get a very ham-fisted "Saw" parody that just feels mean-spirited AND out of character for the two of them. It's a parody that would feel more at home in an opening segment for a Treehouse Of Horror episode and it's also five years too late to be a relevant 'joke'.

This episode doesn't destroy continuity of a great episode but it does tarnish it, especially whenever you re-watch that episode, and manages that without creating a decent replacement for it. All this and a wasted Sideshow Bob appearance and one of the most unpleasant and meanest treatments of Homer by his in-laws too! This is one of those episodes that, for me, 'never happened' and is best left ignored. I hate to sound all negative but it's true.

Episode for Disaster

Wedding for Disaster is a horrible episode. I have watched 16 other season 20 episodes and there was 3 bad, 5 okay, 5 good, and 5 really good episodes. This episode is one of the 3 bad episodes. For me, this is the worst episode of the season. It's not as bad as Boys of Bummer, but that's every Simpsons episodes that are worse than this. There's only one episode worse than this monstrosity. Only one. This episode is just soo mean spirited. Just like Boys of Bummer 😖😠. Characters like Ned Flanders and Patty and Selma have gone through serious Flanderatazion. It's just terrible. The episode started off okay, but then it became like a 5.9 for me. Then it slightly improved to like a 6.4, then it dropped. Do you know what I would give this episode now? A 2.9. That's right, a 2.9. How does an episode decline so much to get a 2.9? Well, I don't want to add any spoilers but I'll say just two letters. P. B. That's it. Well, you already know my score so let's just end this review. But I have something to say to the creators. Make the characters who they were in the golden age.
