The Not-So-Friendly Campaign
JordanThomasHall14 January 2019
When Mrs. Admore (Carol Veazie) steps down as president of the Oakdell Garden Club the committee nominates Mary. Mary nominates her best friend/neighbor Gloria Watkins, who in turn nominates their friend Claire Rogers (Joan Tompkins). The three nominees chat of how neither of them are very qualified and interested in being president. Their husbands are planning a fishing trip and laugh at how the women will surely turn on one another before too long. However, Peter and Bill Rodgers (David Lewis, "Batman") are the ones upset when hobby photographer Barry Watkins puts Gloria's picture in the Oakdell Chronicle caressing flowers. Peter goes to the newspaper office to place an ad reading "Mary for President of the Oakdell Garden Club, from an unknown admirer". There he runs into Bill, who when learning of Peter's ad takes out a bigger one as the two men keep each upping into a full page ad. Barry is enraged to see the paper and is determined to have Gloria elected. He places large campaign signs and a loudspeaker on their station wagon blasting the streets. Meanwhile, the girls remain close friends, each upset with their husband. As the men comically grow more delusional the women brainstorm how to smooth things over.
