Fun and Insightful Look At The Tourist Culture of Modern Day India
kellilaroc27 February 2011
Tantric Tourists is a wonderfully insightful documentary which raises a lot of important questions about the differences and similarities in Eastern and Western culture.

The film is approached in an endearing, humanistic and tender way which allows the viewer to become part of the journey of all involved and in doing so we experience a veritable visual feast of modern India.

Tantric Tourists is much deeper than it may first appear though.Due to its humorous, friendly candid treatment of its subjects, it's easy to just relax and enjoy the film on a level of sheer entertainment, however, watch and listen a bit more closely and you will be treated to a thoughtful, voyeuristic and intimate discovery of the theatre of modern global integration in a world where we are all on our own spiritual journey and looking for the way to a better understanding of our inner and outer existence.

Definitely recommend this film.

Oscar worthy.

Tantric Tourist should have been at the Oscars! A wonderful fun movie with great scenery. The cinematography was amazingly good for a low budget movie The editing was cheeky - cutting effectively from tantric breathing exercises to scaring the local wildlife! Laurie - the tantric tourist leader - is larger than life. Fun, raw but above all human. The tourists are shuffled across India on every form of transport known to man including camels, elephants, rickshaws and 18 hours on an infamous Indian train. The tourists begin with their egos and armoring intact but leave India as they hoped - melted and humbled. The famous sites visited in the movie inspired me to want to do the next tour! I would even do the breathing - what the hell - we are in India. This is a refreshingly innocent movie. Well worth the viewing.

Better that Eat Pray Love or The Darjeeling Limited

I wish I'd been on this trip - just to giggle with the crew.

This is the kind of film you have to submit to, it's beautiful and funny, gentle and uplifting. I prefer this to any other film about India, like Eat Pray Love, or The Darjeeling Limited. It studies tourism alongside our need for answers. I usually hate documentaries, this is a different league to The Secret. The guerrilla shooting from the hip-style captures the country perfectly too, but it's not all wobbly. The Horse Trainers really made me laugh too. And the shopping, legendary. There's a Making Of on the DVD, it provided extra story. So glad I found out about this on Facebook. The "guru" - what a scream. She's more like a cult leader, I know all about Landmark Education, and what she's been into before, and I can tell you, it ain't pretty. This should be standard viewing for the spiritually inclined, and I think they should show it as a warning video on planes for all of those about to land in India. Particularly that speech about widow-burning.
