Kurt Weill's Street Scene (2019) -

Right from the start the diction was terrible, especially from the women and i wasn't actually sure that the lyrics, which were not very good and poorly put to the music translated to opera that well? I couldn't believe that there was a whole song about Ice Cream????? Which just made what was already tough to get through, ridiculous.

I would definitely have been furious if I'd paid to see it at the theatre, because the staging, "Dancing" and even the vocals all seemed very amateur, as was the lighting and sound. The only good bit really was the set, which was probably borrowed from other musical's like 'Rent' or 'Newsies'.

I would say that there might be similarities to the film 'Do The Right Thing' with its collection of various characters collected from around the world and many cultures, but it was far easier to watch, as it wasn't so aggressive and horrible. It also had no real point that I could see.

It was hard to get in to, long winded and slow. I was waiting for it to really get started, but it never really seemed to do so. As such I gave up on it shortly after the ice cream song.

Unscored as Unfinished.
