Director Paul Verhoeven (Black Book) is preparing to direct his next film called The Student. Halle Berry has been offered the lead female role in the film. The movie, written by Wendy Diane Miller, and Badass Digest describes the story as a "sexual thriller about a 19 year old kid who takes up a summer internship… and then takes up with his boss’ wife. Things start to get dangerous from there." Well anyone that gets involved with their bosses significant other is just asking for trouble. Berry will play the boss' wife in the movie named Miranda.
Verhoeven and Berry tried to get another film off the ground together called The Surrogate, but it never happened. This will be the directors first film since 2006's Black Book.

Paul Verhoeven (Black Book) is attached to direct sexual-thriller The Student, and has offered Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball) the lead role.
Verhoeven and Berry were supposed to collaborate on The Surrogate, but the film fell through at the production stage.

Paul Verhoeven hasn't directed a film since the very good 2006 release Black Book. There are films he wants to make or has flirted with: a Thomas Crown Affair sequel; The Hidden Force [1]; Eternal [2]; a video game adaptation [3]; and a film called The Surrogate [4]. The last film had Halle Berry attached, but seems to be dead. However, there is a report that the director and actress are moving on to a new project, The Student. Badass Digest [5] says the film is written by Wendy Diane Miller, and that it " is a sexual thriller about a 19 year old kid who takes up a summer internship… and then takes up with his boss’ wife. Things start to get dangerous from there." Halle Berry would play Miranda, aka the boss' wife. It is so easy to see the director working well with this sort of material, and while Halle Berry doesn't inspire the most confidence,...

Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven ("Basic Instinct," "Total Recall") will team with Halle Berry for his next project - "The Student" at Relativity Media reports Bad Ass Digest.
Wendy Diane Miller penned the sexual thriller about a 19 year old kid who takes up a summer internship… and then takes up with his boss’ wife (Berry). Things soon turn dangerous.
Verhoeven and Berry tried to get a project called "The Surrogate" off the ground last year in which Berry would play an evil surrogate mother. That looks to have fallen by the wayside for this.

Halle Berry is the perfect actress for Paul Verhoeven (Showgirls, Basic Instinct), so much so that it defies logic the pair haven’t worked together yet. Berry has always reminded me of another Verhoeven muse (and her own costar in Catwoman), Sharon Stone; stunningly beautiful, marginally talented but capable of bringing the right amount of crazy needed to a role. I get chills thinking about how awesome it could have been if Verhoeven had been the director on Catwoman instead!
But I digress, apparently Verhoeven had been planning a star vehicle for Berry (via Badass Digest) called The Surrogate but that project has been scrapped in favor of a different film called The Student. In this film Berry would play a wife that ends up romantically involved with her husband’s 19 year old intern. Gosh, have I missed the erotic thriller genre and I am thrilled to have Berry and...

Paul Verhoeven is charging on with his latest flick, but he may have Halle Berry in his film's grasp. The actress has been offered a role in "The Student," a sexual thriller about a 19 year old kid who takes up a summer internship, and then takes up with his boss' wife. The script was penned by Wendy Diane Miller with Relativity Media behind it all. He previously tried to get another project off the ground with Berry, titled "The Surrogate," but it must have simmered in development for too long to just push the film aside for the time being. We've heard about a few possible projects for Paul Verhoeven over the past couple years. Last seen directing the very good Black Book, he's got a film called The Surrogate on his plate, along with The Hidden Force and possibly an adaptation of a Jordan Mechner video game. Add one more to the pile, as the director has signed on to Eternal, which could put him back in erotic thriller territory, albeit with a twist. Deadline says that Eternal is "Fatal Attraction -- with a succubus temptress." Richard D'Ovidio will rewrite the existing draft by David Loughery. Production is penciled in for next summer, so this could be Mr. Verhoeven's next film. More plot: A married recovering alcoholic helps a woman threatening to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. They end up in bed, and in a torrid sexual affair. When he gets home, he’s confronted by his wife and a private investigator,...

Not to be confused with the three other movies of the same name, Paul Verhoeven Black Book, Basic Instinct, Total Recall, RoboCop, Starship Troopers) has signing to direct the supernatural thriller Eternal for Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. The script, penned by Obsessed writer David Loughery, centers on a recovering alcoholic who believes that he's cheated on his wife -- only to discover that the other woman is a ghost who is in pursuit of his soul. Richard D'Ovidio will re-write. Eternal will be produced by Kimmel, John Penotti of Greene Street, Peter Block of A Bigger Boat (Frozen, The Ward) and Charles Segars of Sparkler Entertainment. Verhoeven is also directing The Surrogate for Fox.

After getting sick and tired of Hollywood moviemaking and abandoning the town for a while, it looks like “Basic Instinct’s” Paul Verhoeven is back in Lalaland with a couple of projects. He’s got “The Surrogate” with Halle Berry and Kaley Cuoco cooking for 2012, and has now added “Eternal” to his plate. “Eternal” is being described as “Fatal Attraction” with a succubus. Or maybe “Basic Instinct” with a succubus, though perhaps that’s somewhat redundant, ahem. The plot of “Eternal” goes something like this: In Eternal, a married recovering alcoholic helps a woman threatening to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. They end up in bed, and in a torrid sexual affair. When he gets home, he’s confronted by his wife and a private investigator, with photos spread across a table. He thinks he’s busted, but the photos that should have shown him in the clinches with...

Over the past year or two we've been hearing about some tantalizing possibilities for director Paul Verhoeven's next project. Among them, a potentially controversial film about the life of Jesus (based on Verhoeven's own book Jesus of Nazareth [1]), an edgy thriller called The Surrogate starring Halle Berry, and a rumoured adaptation of the Indiana Jones-esque video game The Last Express. It's been about 10 years now since he's done any full-on genre stuff, and in the last decade his only other film has been the Dutch WWII thriller Black Book. Alas, if you were hoping for a return to films like Robocop, Starship Troopers or even Showgirls, you're likely to be disappointed with this announcement. It looks like his next movie will be an adaptation of a Dutch novel by Louis Couperus called The Hidden Force. Variety [2] reports that the story takes place in 1900 on the island of Java in the Dutch East Indies.

Paul Verhoeven, that crazy as a fox Dutch director who gave us Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers, RoboCop and Arnold Schwarzenegger pulling a tracking device from out of his nose in Total Recall, hasn't given us a movie in four years. He's about to rectify that.
Verhoeven is working on a movie about what happened to a Dutch colony on the island of Java at the turn of the 20th century. Sounds like a History Channel movie, right? Verhoeven's made a decision to pull away from Hollywood thrillers and action movies these past few years, giving us the World War II drama Black Book and now Hidden Force, the title of his new movie. Maybe he's had a revelation of sorts, or maybe he's holding out for that big offer to direct Starship Troopers 4 (because, yes, there has been two sequels to Starship Troopers already.)

Earlier this week we wrote about a new project that director Paul Verhoeven (seen above) is working on (an adaptation of the video game The Last Express), but we weren't sure if that meant he was ditching his other project The Surrogate. Announced last year, The Surrogate is a thriller about a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. Not the most interesting concept, but in the hands of Verhoeven, you never know. MTV ran new quotes from their recent chat with Verhoeven and word is The Surrogate is still in the works. "That's still in the works," Verhoeven told MTV. "Halle Berry is attached to the project and we discussed it all. Almost a year ago now we heard news that Paul Verhoeven, for his next film, would be tackling an adaptation of Kathryn Mackel's 2004 novel, "The Surrogate." Mere days later, it came out that Halle Berry was interested in joining that adaptation. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to the filmmaker recently when he stopped by to promote his new book, "Jesus of Nazareth," and learned that "The Surrogate" is still a project that is very much alive.
"That's still in the works," Verhoeven said. "Halle Berry is attached to the project and we discussed it all. The question is where do we get the $30 million to do a project that includes a lot of things that have to do with abortion and... surrogate mothers."

Don't look now but the yuppies are in for it in a spree of forthcoming 80s and 90s-style revenge thrillers – a cautionary Hollywood reminder to us all after the recession
From the moment Glenn Close brewed up rabbit stew for Michael Douglas in Fatal Attraction, the yuppie thriller became a staple of late 80s/early 90s cinema. The "fill-in-the-blank from hell" subgenre gave us various incarnations of a monotonous formula, whether it was a flatmate (Single White Female), a lodger (Pacific Heights), a nanny (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) or an intern (The Temp). Take one perfect couple, with a perfect life (or is it...?) and add an apparently charming outsider. Before long, tyres have been slashed, cops proved useless, a creepy shrine revealed in someone's basement and once passive, middle-class types have got in touch with their primal vigilantes in a fabulously melodramatic finale.

The film will be directed by Paul Verhoeven, and it will be produced by Ralph Winter,Deborah Giarratana, Robin Guthrie and Susana Zepeda. The film is based on a book written by Kathryn Mackel back in 2004. The plot is about a couple who desperately want to have a child ,but unfortunately the surrogate that they hired turns out to be a nut case. Halle would play the role of the wife in the movie, and has already approved the part. Fox wants to have her play the role. All that's left is for them to work out the deal or in other words, get the money right.

Halle Berry is in discussions to headline The Surrogate for 20th Century Fox, a thriller about a couple who discovers their surrogate mother is insane. Think Baby Mama only less funny.
No official deal has been reached, but she’s being considered for the female portion of the couple, according to Variety.
Berry would be returning to the screen after a short hiatus to have a child of her own. The last movie she starred in was Things We Lost in the Fire in 2007. Just in case you forgot, she won an Oscar in 2002, which I can only assume she’s been using to fend off the critics since then with some truly terrible movie choices. Just from personal experience, the best way to deal with a crazy pregnant lady is to threaten to make them watch Catwoman.

Halle Berry is in talks to star in The Surrogate, the new psycho thriller to be directed by Paul Verhoeven.Normally, the prospect of Berry teaming up with Verhoeven would be one to excite the dirty mac brigade, but we’ve got a feeling that The Surrogate will be a straight-down-the-line commercially viable flick with the emphasis on thrills and spills, rather than rudie nudie bits. With strong overtones of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Single White Female, Fatal Attraction and just about every nutjob thriller of the past twenty or so years, The Surrogate revolves around a married couple who hire a surrogate to carry their child for them, only to find out – Dum dum Dummmmmmm! – that the surrogate is a raving lunatic. If Berry signs on, she’ll probably play the wife of the heroic couple. But we’d actually like to see her take a (literal) stab at the fruitcake villainess.

Luckily for her, THR reports that she’s currently in negotiations to star as the non-crazy biatch in the thriller “The Surrogate”. Hard to believe, but it's been almost 10 years since Paul Verhoeven made his last Hollywood film. Hollow Man may not have been his strongest effort, but I remember it being somewhat unfairly criticized because people thought the effects weren't up to snuff. Either way, since then he has directed only one movie: Black Book, a World War II movie about a Jewish singer trying to survive in Nazi-occupied Holland. It is the most expensive Dutch film made to date, and was fairly well-received critically, even though some people were disappointed to see Verhoeven moving away from sci-fi to something a little more serious. The good news is, Verhoeven isn't ready to completely turn his back on Hollywood just yet. He has reportedly signed on to direct a thriller called The Surrogate (not to be confused with Jonathan Mostow's Surrogates [1]) for 20th Century Fox. Based on the book by Kathryn Mackel,...

Not to be confused with the Bruce Willis sci-fi thriller Surrogates, Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is returning to America to direct a thriller called The Surrogate for 20th Century Fox. Based on the book by Kathryn Mackel, the story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. The original draft was written Roderick Taylor and Bruce Taylor (The Brave One), however Verhoeven might tweak their version. This was originally setup at Fox Atomic, but moved to Fox when that company was shut down. Verhoeven last directed the Dutch WWII drama Black Book in 2006, but hasn't done anything for Hollywood since directing Hollow Man in 2000. Verhoeven is always all over the map, so I can never say whether anything will be that good just because he's attached to ...

According to Cinema Blend, Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers) has signed with 20th Century Fox to direct the big-screen adaptation of Kathryn Mackel's The Surrogate. This marks Verhoeven's return to Hollywood fare after directing the critically acclaimed 2006 Dutch-language movie Black Book and the period piece The Winter Queen, which is still in production.
Mackel's novel tells the story of the Dolans, a couple struggling to bear a child. They find a surrogate mother in Sable, a computer expert who convinces the couple to let her into the family. Sable, however, has a shady past that becomes more of a danger as the pregnancy progresses. The cover of the novel labels it as a "Christian Chiller," although it's unclear if the religious and supernatural elements of the story will translate to the big-screen adaptation.

On September 25 Touchstone Pictures will release The Surrogates starring Bruce Willis, but that isn't stopping 20th Century Fox and director Paul Verhoeven (Showgirls, Black Book) from dropping the second "s" and getting to work on The Surrogate reports The Hollywood Reporter. Verhoeven is developing and will direct the thriller, which is based on the 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel centering on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. Bummer eh? Of course, this film is nothing like the human/robot duplication film The Surrogates represents, but both seem to be featuring a rather tired storytelling device in their respective genres. The Surrogate was originally penned by Roderick Taylor and Bruce Taylor wrote the original draft and by the sounds of it Verhoeven is doing a little touch up. The director...

The last time Paul Verhoeven directed a Hollywood movie, it was 2000’s “Hollow Man”. Before that, the Dutch filmmaker was famous for movies like “Starship Troopers” and “Basic Instincts”, and infamous for “Showgirls”. After abandoning Hollywood for his native Netherlands with 2006’s “Black Book”, Verhoeven seems ready to give Hollywood a second chance, and will be returning to America to direct the thriller “The Surrogate”, not to be confused with the Bruce Willis sci-fi actioner “Surrogates”. THR reports that Verhoeven will be adapting the novel by Kathryn Mackel, about a desperate, childless couple who finds the perfect surrogate to carry their child to term, only to realize she’s out of her flippin’ mind. You know, batshit crazy. Verhoeven will be directing from a script by Roderick Taylor and Bruce Taylor. Originally set up at its genre arm Fox Atomic, Fox has now moved the project over to its main studio,...
