Facing down his third indictment, former president Donald Trump’s legal team appears to have prepared three pillars of their defense for him. But on Sunday, MSNBC host Jen Psaki tore down each and every “absurd” one.
Before fully getting into things, Psaki prefaced that she isn’t a lawyer, nor has she ever been one. But, she argued, it doesn’t even take a lawyer to spot flaws in the options that Trump’s team has drawn up.
“You don’t exactly need to be Atticus Finch to recognize that the arguments by Trump’s legal team don’t exactly hold up,” she mocked. “I mean, there appear to be three they’re pretty focused on repeating over and over, and each of them feels worthy of some scrutiny.”
The MSNBC host then did just that, looking at the possibilities one by one. First, she looked at the free speech argument,...

Juno Temple On Her Character In Comedy Debut ‘Ted Lasso’: “Keeley Has Saved My Mental Health, Truly”
Juno Temple has never truly done comedy. In fact, with roles in the likes of Atonement, Cracks, Little Birds and Black Mass, to name a few, she has ploughed her field as a specialist in the darkest of darkness, and has relished every moment. She might have been surprised when co-creator Jason Sudeikis texted her with a role in Ted Lasso, but she says she can’t be more grateful for the opportunity it gave her, to explore warmth and light even as the world hurtled towards pandemic and protest. She plays Keeley Jones, a bright soul whose flame gets dimmed by the stereotype of her status as a star footballer’s girlfriend, until it is kindled by an unlikely friendship with the club’s owner, Rebecca.
Deadline: This character is a new challenge for you. What excited you—and perhaps terrified you—about taking part?

It’s 2006. James Bond, as rendered in this particular iteration by franchise newcomer Daniel Craig, is on a train to Montenegro as he prepares for his upcoming mission: a poker tournament, where he will compete against the notorious private banker and criminal mastermind known as Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen). However, there’s one factor Bond hasn’t taken into account, and it’s the well-dressed woman in a business suit who elegantly sits herself across from him in the train car. But Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) isn’t merely the agent to the British Treasury that she asserts herself to be — over the course of the story she’ll become the first woman that Bond truly, deeply gives his heart to, as well as the first one to subsequently break said heart. Hers is a role that demands assertiveness and vulnerability, a captivating beauty with a keen mind, and someone...

There’s a scene in Małgorzata Szumowska’s dark, stomach-churning, brilliant drama The Other Lamb that perfectly encapsulates the life-on-the-outside longing of being born into a cult. A charismatic man referred to by his flock as Shepherd is leading his all-female acolytes on foot as they search for a new home; a visit from the authorities set this plan into action. One of his followers–his daughter–is Selah, a teenager whose mother passed away shortly after giving birth. Selah is simultaneously spellbound by and suspicious of Shepherd. As she and her fellow daughters and wives wander the harsh landscape, a car passes by. Selah imagines herself in the backseat, chewing gum, wearing a high school jacket. Her eyes meet the eyes of her imaginary double. And away the car drives.
Achingly memorable scenes like this make The Other Lamb a shattering film, the type of harrowing genre entry that should develop a strong following.

The surprising, cold and deadly performance by Imogen Poots in Jeremy Saulnier's Green Room (2015) caught me off guard, perhaps because I associated the actress more with her slighter roles in Cracks, Fright Night, and Need for Speed than with her early, very demanding supporting role in 28 Weeks Later. Two years ago, she caught my eye again in Cameron's Crowe's series Roadies, standing out for her ability to capture a certain lighter-than-air quality in her character; I was beguiled by her appearance and bearing, a bright spot in a series that never quite lived up to the potential of its premise. Perhaps if I'd seen more of her earlier films, which range all over the map from comedy to drama to thrillers, I'd have...

Like the genetic matter those brainy Engineers scatter about in Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s DNA is a potent filmmaking force in its own right. Two of his offspring, oldest son Jake (Welcome To The Rileys, Plunkett & Macleane) and daughter Jordan (Cracks), have already directed movies and now the third, Luke Scott, is joining them with his debut film Morgan. The sci-fi thriller has just added Kate Mara to its cast list.Mara will be joined by newcomer Anya Taylor-Joy, who impressed Sundance audiences with her turn in buzzed-about horror The Witch. Morgan's plot focuses on a corporate risk-management consultant, although the actual corporate risk-management depicted on screen will likely be kept to a minimum when the consultant is summoned to a remote lab to evaluate an artificial being with a view to its termination. There’s shades of Ex Machina in Seth Owen’s 2014 Black List script, although it also taps into Ridley’s A.

Sneak Peek new images of actress Eva Green ("Sin City: A Dame to Kill For") posing for the 16th edition of the "Campari" calendar, titled "Mythology Mixology" celebrating the company's most popular cocktails:
About her film career, Green said "...there are simply not enough good roles for women, and for the last 20 years it has been so male-dominated and continues to be so."
The French actress and model started her career in theatre before making her film debut in 2003 in Bernardo Bertolucci's controversial "The Dreamers".
She achieved international recognition when she appeared in Ridley Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven" (2005) and portrayed 'Vesper Lynd' in the 'James Bond' film "Casino Royale" (2006).
In 2006, Green was awarded the 'BAFTA' Rising Star Award.
Since 2006, Green has starred in independent films including "Cracks" (2009), "Womb" (2010) and "Perfect Sense" (2011).

She’s only just recently 24 years old, but since 2006 Juno Temple has appeared in more than two dozen films, from independent fare like “Cracks,” “Greenberg,” “Dirty Girl” and “Killer Joe” to studio offerings like “The Other Boleyn Girl,” “Year One” and “The Three Musketeers.” In her latest movie, writer-director Jill Soloway’s tart, Silver Lake-set dramedy “Afternoon Delight,” Temple plays McKenna, a stripper and escort who is befriended by an emotionally wayward, stay-at-home suburban mother, Rachel (Kathryn Hahn), with considerable consequences. For ShockYa, Brent Simon recently had a chance to speak to Temple one-on-one and in person, about the movie, learning erotic dance, how she feels about auditions, and her [ Read More ]

Chilean director Sebastián Silva (The Maid, Old Cats, Life Kills Me) makes his English language debut with this psychological thriller featuring intimidation, hypnosis and maybe just a bit of overwrought villainy on the part of Michael Cera. Maria Full of Grace star Catalina Sandino and Emily "Babydoll" Browning also appear in supporting roles. The film played (quietly) at Sundance this year, and while it never secured a theatrical release, it is coming to DVD/VOD in August. Personally, I'm still waiting for Juno Temple to become a bonafide star, as the right part has eluded her even as she brings a significant freshness to whatever project she turns up in. None of these (Killer Joe, Cracks, The Brass Teapot, Dirty Girl, Mr. Nobody) got any mainstream notice. While I...

Shay Mitchell was selected as one of People magazine’s “Most Beautiful.” Personally, I love Shay for her brain.
On this week’s episode of Glee, Jane Lynch will sing “Little Girls” from the musical Annie. The song choice is very meta since Lynch will be playing Miss Hannigan in the Broadway revival of Annie, beginning May 16 at the Palace Theatre in New York.

Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger action director Renny Harlin is making his long-awaited return to big-budget filmmaking with the just-announced Hercules 3D, and the Finnish filmmaker reveals to Et that his mythological hero will not be a "hulking mass of muscles," but rather a "real man who's struggling with being a demi-god" in a film that more closely resembles Ridley Scott's Gladiator.
Pics: Stars on the Set!
In the past, muscle-bound stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Steve Reeves portrayed the classic hero, the son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmene who is famous for his super strength and Twelve Labors, including slaying the nine-headed hydra and capturing the three-headed dog Ceberus. But Harlin says that his star will be of a more modest physique.

When you hear the term "lesbian stalker," it's usually referencing someone you or your friend broke up with that you just can't get away from. Well I'm sorry to say but lesbian communities are oh-so-small, my friends, and we're all someone's crazy ex. But sometimes there are legitimate stalkers who send Ellen Page creepy letters or sit outside Kerry Katona's house. I'd like to think these people aren't truly lesbian but just women who are weirdly obsessed with celebrities. But that doesn't mean true lesbian stalkers don't exist in the wonderful world of film and TV tropes! In fact, the obsessive gay woman that is willing to go to any length to have what she wants is quite popular. In 2009 Ridley Scott had his eye on Angelina Jolie for a leading role in the Gucci movie, but his daughter Jordan Scott has replaced him as director of the story about grandson of the brand’s founder, and heir to the Gucci fortune, who was gunned down in 1995.
First announced in 2006 a script by Andrea Berloff has a number of writers involved in the project, set up at Scott Free Production.
Now comes word that the Oscar winner, Penelope Cruz, who is currently shooting The Counselor with Ridley, is slated to portray Patrizia Reggiani in Jordan’s drama about the family behind the famous clothing brand.

At the beginning of the year we broke down the myriad of projects that Ridley Scott was attached to (he's added a few more since then as well), and the bottom line is, the 75-year-old director just isn't going to get to them all. But filmmaking runs in the Scott family, and Ridley's daughter, Jordan Scott, has already spread her wings. She helmed the somewhat underrated boarding school drama "Cracks" starring Eva Green and Juno Temple a couple of years back, and she's done commercial work as well for Agent Provocateur, Armani and more. But now another fashion label is getting her attention. Jordan will be taking over for her dad Ridley to direct a movie about famed fashion house Gucci. Scott has been developing this as far back as 2006 and in 2009, and it looked to be his next film after "Robin Hood" with Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio tipped as stars.

Boarding schools seem to be a hotbed of sexual experimentation, at least that's how it seems from watching them on film. Interestingly, it's a trend that doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. We've seen all-girls dormitories as a plot device since the 1930s, and yet there have been three released in the last year alone. Is it a coincidence that four out of eight of our Best Lesbian Boarding School Movies are directed and/or written by out women, two of which are said to be based on real life stories? Seems as if boarding schools might not be punishment as much as they are places to find your first love.

68-year-old filmmaker Tony Scott has died in an apparent suicide on Sunday reports The Wrap. He was 68.
A suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of Vincent Thomas Bridge near Long Beach, California.
Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the suspension bridge's apex and "leapt off without hesitation". His body was recovered after the jump according to the L.A. County Coroner.
The younger brother of fellow film director Ridley Scott whom he also produced many shows and films with, Tony forged his own trademark style in the blockbuster action genre thanks to a successful teaming with producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer.

Daughter of director Julien Temple on sex scenes with Matthew McConaughey, Joe Strummer, and becoming Hollywood's indie go-to girl
What's a nice, well-brought-up English girl doing playing a Texan trailer-trash fille fatale? Not to mention a 1970s prostitute, a sexually voracious student, a lesbian teenage drifter, a schizophrenic, or countless other Us indie staples. Juno Temple has rarely paused to think about it. A whirlwind of chaotic enthusiasm, the 22-year-old actor is not the type to look back. In fact, she seems to live her life on permanent fast-forward. She talks twice as fast as most people, and her career is progressing at the same rate. We're here in a west London cafe to talk about her role in William Friedkin's Killer Joe. Next month we'll see her in The Dark Knight Rises (she can't say anything about it, of course). And then, after that, there's The Wild Side,...

John Hillcoat just doesn't do uplifting. He has a pretty good handle on the heartbreaking and emotionally affecting, but raising your spirits just doesn't seem to be his bag (at least in his feature films; remember that Levi's ad?). While we wait patiently for Hillcoat's next feature "The Wettest County" (or are we calling it "Lawless" now?) to arrive in theatres, here's an ad he's directed for the U.K.'s National Lottery.
Titled "Hero's Return - A National Lottery Good Cause," the ad shows a World War II vet named Jack Jennings transported back to wartime Burma while visiting a lottery funded "Life Changing" site. It's Hillcoat by the way of "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now," but also brings to mind the cloying final scene in "Saving Private Ryan." Anyway, we quite like this from both a visual and emotional perspective so you should definitely check it out.

While we patiently wait for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" to start rolling in front of cameras, the director has been keeping his skills sharpened on a couple of sideline gigs, helming some bracing spots for The Meth Project Foundation as well as a video for Metallica and Lou Reed's silly Lulu album. But this next one we didn't exactly see coming.
Aronofsky has gotten behind the camera for a Kohl's ad for Jennifer Lopez's brand of clothing and accessories. And it's pretty underwhelming. It's essentially like any other ad Lopez does, where she "sings" and dances in a variety of outfits, striking some poses. Frankly, if you didn't tell us Aronofsky did this, we couldn't have guessed. But then again, we don't look to Kohl's ads for high art.
Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's daughter Jordan Scott continues to follow in her father's footsteps. If you haven't seen her...

While television is now seen as fertile creative ground for filmmakers who can't find an opening in the franchise-heavy studio system, the commercial world is also an opportunity for a helmer to keep those movie making skills honed. And while we wait for Sofia Coppola to get her next feature film mounted -- which may be about the Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch -- her latest venture into advertising will tide us over for now. The director has gotten behind the camera for the campaign for H&M's Marni collection, which features rising actress Imogen Poots ("Fright Night," "Jane Eyre," "Cracks") as the face of the line. The resulting minute-long commercial finds Coppola doing what she does, beautifully framing youth in all their reckless abandon. Those walking into the indie "Dirty Girl" expecting something "dirty" will be sorely disappointed. What they'll get instead: a charming coming-of-age comedy backed by a standout leading turn from girl-on-the-rise Juno Temple.
So back to that title ... "Dirty Girl" centers on Danielle (Temple), a messed-up and promiscuous Oklahoma high school student in the 1980s who flaunts her assets -- and her potty mouth -- for the whole wide world to see. Danielle comes home one night to find out her divorced mother (Milla Jovovich) has gotten engaged to a Mormon (played by William H. Macy), so she sets off on a road trip along with her gay classmate Clarke (Jeremy Dozier) to Fresno, where she hopes to reunite with her birth father.
Even though the film marks a rookie effort for writer-director Abe Sylvia, The Weinstein Company picked it up out of last year's Toronto International Film Festival, where it had its world premiere.

You can often chart the rise of a young actor or actress by the company they keep, in which case British-born Imogen Poots is doing more than fine. Having come off a film with Catherine Keener, Christopher Walken and Philip Seymour Hoffman, she now stars alongside Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin in Touchstone’s “Fright Night,” playing the latter’s sweet girlfriend, and an unwitting object of temptation for the former. In films like the striking and austere schoolhouse drama “Cracks” (the directorial debut of Jordan Scott, daughter of Ridley Scott), meanwhile, and last year’s “Solitary Man,” in which she hooked up with Michael Douglas, Poots is showing a range that obviously endears...

It's strange, how much I want to see Juno Temple succeed. I love her to death, even though I'm pretty sure I've only seen her in two movies. Yet those movie -- Cracks and Atonement -- were such a gorgeous, fascinating films, and she was simply perfect in them. She seems incredibly promising, and she's starting to garner attention -- she's been cast as Queen Anne in Paul W.S. Anderson's upcoming extravaganza of excess and revisionist history, The Three Musketeers, as well as in The Dark Knight Rises.
Dirty Girl, however, features her as the star. She plays a rebellious and promiscuous teenager in s stuffy Oklahoma town who befriends a different kind of school misfit (Jeremy Dozier), and the two embark on a road trip to find her father. It's got a remarkable supporting cast, including Milla Jovovich, William H. Macy, Mary Steenburgen, and Dwight Yoakam. The trailer doesn't blow me away,...

Yes, believe it folks, one of the two Jeff Buckley movies in development is moving forward whether you like it or not, and production continues with its indie spirit as Deadline reveals that rising Brit actress Imogen Poots has joined the cast. The actress impressed in last year's "Solitary Man" and this year, she was made her presence known in two period pieces, the criminally underseen Jordan Scott film "Cracks" and Cary Fukunaga's gothic "Jane Eyre." But her biggest…...

Rating (out of five): * * *
A coming-of-age (but not coming-out) movie that takes us back to a British all-girls school during the 1930s -- complete with requisite lesbianism, nude scenes, and a backward glance at the young ladies, fashions and automobiles of pre-wwii-- Cracks, the first full-length film from Jordan Scott (daughter of Ridley) is a ripe piece of cinema that is, fortunately, still a short distance from going bad. You can bite into its succulent fruit and enjoy the sweet taste, while realizing that, by tomorrow, it will have passed optimum status. But that's tomorrow. Why carp when we still have today?...
