This week's DVD and Blu-ray releases hit shelves on 4/20, and you know what that means -- a new re-release of Reefer Madness in honor of its upcoming 75th anniversary! Along with that hilarious propaganda flick we have a plentiful assortment of more serious films that are sure to appeal to DC readers.
First up is Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, which a lot of us missed during its brief limited theatrical run. Looking for something a little more "classic"? How about 1983's House of the Long Shadows starring the holy horror triumvirate of Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing with Desi Arnaz, Jr., and John Carradine in supporting roles? Does it get much better than that?
Less classic, but hopefully cheesy fun are the likes of Neowolf (briefly called The Band from Hell if you're looking for Foy's review), Mischa Barton's Homecoming, Braincell, Surviving Crooked Lake, The...

Review by: Jessica Baxter
Directed and Directed by Sascha Drews. Ezra Krybus, Matthew Miller
Featuring Alysha Aubin, Candice Mausner, Morgan McCunn, Stephannie Richardson, Guy Yarkoni
A group of nature-loving girls who have been best summer camp friends forever decide to embark on one last canoe trip into the Canadian wilderness. Steph harbors a slight fear of water ever since she watched her father drown, so her older brother, Jonah, agrees to chaperone the excursion for moral support. Regrettably, as the title suggests, things don't go quite as smoothly as they'd planned...
Actually, I vastly prefer the original title, Portage. It's not ideal, but it's more inspired than just another present participle title. I really hate those fuck(ing) things. Besides, Surviving Crooked Lake could refer to just about anything that might go wrong at a lake. Portage evokes a more precise image of the strife that these girls are fated to endure.
