Marco Garibaldi spent his entire time in the entertainment industry behind the scenes. As a result, most people probably aren’t too familiar with his name and/or face. That said, most people probably will recognize the show that Marco worked on during the 1990s. In 1995, Marco directed three episodes of the popular show The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. However, his time on the show remains the only directing credit on his resume. His only other credit is for producing the 2009 movie Across The Hall. His sporadic work has made many people curious about him, and in recent years people

Brittany Murphy was the tragically young age of 32 when she died suddenly 10 years ago. Her life had taken some surprising turns in the years since she first caught most moviegoers' eyes in Clueless as the new girl in school who gets a crash course in popularity from Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash, but both busy with work and thinking about starting a family, she seemed happy. On Dec. 1, 2009, she attended the premiere of the bare-bones noir thriller Across the Hall, in which she played a woman who's cheating on her fiancé with his best friend and some intense cat-and-mouse ensues. "I don't know June's actual reasons for cheating," she said in an...

The writers of Scandal haven't been afraid to get political this season, and Thursday night was no exception.
Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) took on a military rape case, and the episode crackled with her passion for justice. There was a time, not very long ago, when obtaining a decent copy of David Lynch’s first masterpiece, Eraserhead, was problematic. Selected in 2004 for preservation in the National Film Registry, nearly four decades of overriding nearly every other piece of flotsam and jetsam comprising the cult classic continuum, one of the most exquisite directorial debuts of all time gets a lavish Criterion Collection treatment. A film whose aural devices equal its bizarre and unforgettable visuals, outside of a theatrical screening, it’s the definitive way to experience this dream of dark and troubling things.
To outline the narrative of Eraserhead feels rather reductive since the film is a visual and auditory experience that requires first hand exposure. But, basically, it’s about a guy named Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) who is forced to marry a neurotic girlfriend, Mary X (Charlotte Stewart) because she gave birth to a creature/baby he impregnated her with.

So you call yourself a "Friends" fan, eh? You've seen every episode, know all the lyrics to that darn theme song, and consider classic lines ("could I Be wearing anymore clothes?") part of your everyday vocabulary.
"Friends" premiered 20 years ago today on September 22, 1994, and we thought we would honor that big anniversary by putting together 20 little-known facts about the iconic series. Want to see if you're the master of "Friends" trivia? Look no further:
1. Original titles considered for the show included Six of One, Friends Like Us, Insomnia Cafe, and Across the Hall.
2. The apartment numbers got switched as the series went on. Monica and Rachel's original apartment number was 5, but was later changed to 20 because 5 was too small a number for such a high floor. Joey and Chandler's was switched from 4 to 19.
3. Jon Favreau and Jon Cryer were up for the role of Chandler. As you may remember, Jon Favreau...

Born in Pennsylvania to a family with two grandfathers who fought in World War II, Mike Vogel now plays Army veteran Dale "Barbie" Barbara in CBS' Monday limited series "Under the Dome," based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
Barbie is on a mission and has plenty of secrets and angst, but Vogel is a happily married father of three daughters. He also doesn't think much of actors opining on world issues.
"I grew up a plumber's son in Philadelphia," he tells Zap2it. "No one stuck a microphone in my dad's face, saying, 'What's your view on gun control?' But why would they care what I think? On paper, actors are the dumbest group of individuals essentially out there.

The 66th Edinburgh International Film Festival is officially under way – last night the opening film, Killer Joe, screened in Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre, and though I wasn’t there I do wonder how it went down. It’s a provocative movie, and if it gets people arguing then at least it’s got people talking; last year’s deliberately unglamorous festival didn’t achieve even that. The screening was attended by its director, William Friedkin, who the night before introduced a screening of his classic The French Connection in the Filmhouse, and actress Gina Gershon; jury members Jim Broadbent and Elliott Gould were also in attendance.
After Friedkin’s memorable opener, I started my Festival with Pusher, that most suspicious of film product: a dreaded English-language remake. The original, a cult Danish film from the ’90s, was the first film from director Nicolas Winding Refn, of whom I have been...

Since I'm on a bit of a Cold Case binge, I decided to use my next Television Balcony column to see what some of that show's castmembers were up to. That - and a free Amazon Video on Demand credit - led me to checking out Across The Hall, a tense thriller starring Danny Pino (better known as Det. Scotty Valens), Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and the late Brittany Murphy (whose largest TV credit has to be her voicing Luanne Platter on King of the Hill).
The plot is simple enough (unsurprising, since it actually started as a short film). Terry (Pino) is at his breaking point, because he's sure that his fiancee June (Murphy) is cheating on him. He's so convinced that he's followed her to a cheap hotel (where all affairs take place, of course) and is now sitting - you guessed it - in the room across the...

In For Colored Girls, Tyler Perry trades in Madea for a high end, high-minded source — a beloved 1975 Ntozake Shange play — and comes away with the same sort of overheated, overstuffed kitchen sink cinematic work that’s become his calling card. It’s a mess, proving once again that the mega-rich Atlanta one-man studio’s business acumen surpasses his filmmaking talents. Granted, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf could not have been an easy work to adapt, consisting as it does of 20 loosely conjoined prose poems centered on such hot-button issues as rape and abortion. Using Shange’s reflective, elliptical prose as a starting point, Perry crafts an interwoven ensemble of women, who face some serious, pressing crises while largely sharing the same Harlem apartment building’s roof. Among them: Crystal (Kimberly Elise), who works for monstrous magazine editrix Jo (Janet Jackson) and struggles to cope with her abusive, alcoholic...

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.
In the face of fellow Leicester Square-based festival and horror heavy hitter, Film4 Frightfest, GoreZone (or Gz, as the magazine has rebranded) would appear to be the underdog. Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

The soft glow of a burning-hot wire in an incandescent lightbulb, and the bluish tinge from the screaming electrical plasma storm in a fluorescent tube may soon become largely things of the past. Led lighting has arrived to beat them both.
Ever since British inventor Humphry Davy passed current through a platinum strip in 1802, electrical lighting based on incandescent technology in vacuum-sealed glass bulbs has lighted up our lives. Edison didn't invent the things, despite what you may have heard, but he did perfect an early design that made the lightbulb a practical commodity. Since Edison's experiments, the tech has been tweaked and polished, to the point that we're no longer amazed by the instant availability of electrical light, seeing it as merely "normal."
And don't forget fluorescent systems either--decades of effort by Brits, Germans, French and Americans starting in the mid-1800's resulted in those long tubes lighting up practically every office space everywhere,...

It has been a confusing day on the "Captain America" casting front with one of the previously rumoured contenders moving to the forefront and then later being shot down.
In the morning Fox 411 apparently confirmed an old Cinematical scoop that it is "very likely" that "The Office" star John Krasinski will be the new Steve Rogers as "he is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week". Krasinski has already read for the role four times and screen tested twice with the multiple actresses up for the female leads to ensure chemistry.
Hold on though, now Deadline New York and later Heat Vision both reports that Marvel Studios has expanded its search while at the same time cutting down on the original candidates list which apparently does not include Krasinski in the new short list. The names that are still...

For the most part, it's a week where mediocre to terrible theatrical releases are getting dumped to DVD, but you may still find a few things of interest on store shelves today. In addition to poorly-reviewed crap like Gamer, Pandorum and Whiteout, there is also the Ricky Gervais comedy The Invention of Lying, and a pair of decent documentaries in Outrage and No Impact Man. Also out this week is the Criterion release of Steven Soderbergh's 4-hour epic Che, plus Season 5 of Weeds and Magnolia on Blu-ray. Will you be picking up anything on DVD or Blu-ray this week? Brittany Murphy looked 'pale and thin' during her last interview. A reporter for a Us magazine added that the actress told her on December 3 she was looking forward to getting away from Los Angeles for Christmas. The star was also planning a family holiday in New York with her husband Simon Monjack before trying to kick-start her acting career in 2010. The magazine reports that Murphy appeared to have an eerie premonition about her own death – while promoting her new film Across The Hall, the actress told another reporter she wanted to have beautiful blonde hair 'in my next life'.

Tragic actress Brittany Murphy was battling to beat the blues and a cold in time for Christmas in what has become her last interview.
The Just Married star, who died suddenly on 20 December, chatted to In Touch magazine reporter Amy Webber, who reveals the star looked "pale and thin" on 3 December at a party in Los Angeles.
She told Webber she was looking forward to getting away from Los Angeles for Christmas and was planning a family holiday in New York with her husband Simon Monjack before kickstarting her acting career in 2010.
The publication reports Murphy appeared to have an eerie premonition about her own death - promoting her new film Across The Hall days before her chat with Webber, the actress told another reporter she wanted to have beautiful blonde hair "in my next life".
Details about the cause and manner of Murphy's passing is pending investigation while the Los Angeles County Coroner awaits the results of toxicology and tissue tests.
The actress was buried in Los Angeles at twilight on Christmas Eve.
Reports suggest the medication she was taking to beat her cold prompted the cardiac arrest which killed her.

A look back into reports on Brittany Murphy’s life reveals some very disturbing accounts of her husband Simon Monjack. Over the past three years, countless stories have surfaced about Simon, and his strange — even controlling — behavior.
As far back as May 2007, when Brittany and Simon first got married, eyebrows were raised. The National Enquirer (via Page Six) reported then that Monjack, who is British, was “arrested on expired visa charges in the middle of the night on Mar. 27 – just over a month before the couple’s rushed marriage,” suggesting that they got married so Simon could stay in the country. At the time, Monjack’s lawyer insisted the accounts came from “disgruntled ex-girlfriends” … but the story didn’t end there.
While Brittany — who died tragically in her shower on Dec. 20 at age 32 — was filming Across the Hall in La in February of 2008, it was reported that Simon, her “ever-present...

Actress Brittany Murphy died yesterday at the age of 32. She collapsed Sunday morning at her Hollywood Hills home. The coroner says they will conduct an autopsy Monday to try to determine what killed the actress. There are still upcoming films coming out from Murphy.

It was expected to be straight to DVD, now the producers are rethinking.
Something Wicked … Murphy stars as a psychiatrist in a thriller about two recent high school grads whose plans for a happy life together are shattered by parents who don’t want them to be together. The film is still being edited.

While an official cause for Brittany Murphy’s death hasn’t been named, it’s clear from photos that something wasn’t quite right about the actress recently. Just look at the difference between Brittany in Nov. 2006 (seen in the orange dress at the Carolina Herrera Los Angeles Boutique Opening) and Brittany just a few weeks ago on Dec. 1, 2009 (seen in the black jumpsuit at the Across the Hall premiere). Brittany Murphy, the actress who got her start in the sleeper hit "Clueless" and rose to stardom in "8 Mile" before her movie roles declined in recent years, died Sunday in Los Angeles of what appeared to be natural causes, a Los Angeles County coroner's official said. She was 32.
Murphy was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.
Murphy was transported to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.

Multiple sites, including TMZ, are now reporting that actress Brittany Murphy, seen most recently in Across the Hall, died this morning at the age of 32 in Los Angeles. The reports indicate that she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived. No other information is known about her death, besides that it occurred at the home of her husband Simon Monjack this morning at around 8Am. This is incredibly tragic especially considering she was still a young budding actress with quite a bit of potential. While she wasn't the most popular actress, she will certainly be remember for her many great appearances in many films. Murphy began her acting career at the age of 14 starring on "Drexell's Class". Brittany Murphy, the actress who starred in 8 Mile, Clueless and Uptown Girls died this morning from a fatal heart attack. She was 32.
TMZ reports that the Los Angeles Fired department received a call this morning from Murphy's husband; Murphy was transported to Cedars Sinai and pronounced dead at the scene.
Murphy, whose career has floundered in recent years, had recently had something of a comeback in the making -- she's got three films completed, including Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Most recently, she starred in Ramen Girl, Deadline and Across the Hall. She, of course, had her break-out role in 1995's Clueless, but in recent years, she was perhaps most popular for her voice work on "King of the Hill," and Happy Feet.

Innovation and nostalgia ombine in a new film that came together in a place of Hollywood legend.
"Across the Hall," a new independent film starring Brittany Murphy, Mike Vogel and Danny Pino, opened on December 4 in Los Angeles and New York theaters. Available at L.A.'s Beverly Hills Laemmle Music Hall and New York's City Cinemas and Village East Cinema, the movie is the directorial debut of writer/director Alex Merkin.
In a press release for the film, Merkin said he intended his work - shot on 35mm film and produced on a modest budget over 17 days - to be "a deeply visceral cinematic experience."
"For my first film I wanted to tell the type of story I grew up loving: ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, surrounded by a dense, textured world - one that lives and breathes on its own," he said.

I can't say I ever expected to write two pieces on Brittany Murphy so close together, but the world is an imperfect place. A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned that she had been cast in the goofy-sounding horror movie The Caller, and I mocked both her and the plot. It's what I do. I mock. Shove it.
Anyway, here's the trailer for her next flick, Across the Hall, written and directed by first-timer Alex Merkin. It's based on Merkin's own short film of the same name. Here's the IMDb plot summary:
Terry (Danny Pino, "Cold Case") learns that his fiancée, June (Murphy), has checked into a hotel with another man, sending him into a fit of near-homicidal fury. Desperate to hear a friendly voice, he calls his best friend (Mike Vogel, Cloverfield), admitting he's in a hotel room across the hall from June and plans to kill her lover.

Desperate to hear a friendly voice, he calls his best friend (Mike Vogel, Cloverfield), admitting he's in a hotel room across the hall from June and plans to kill her lover.
