Somewhat troubling

Warning: Spoilers
Not a badly done series, but it really emphasizes home cooking efforts. The breadwinner, presumably the father, is never shown going to work, or arriving home tired. It's as if the entire series takes place on Saturdays, with all non-cooking time spent on little projects and outdoor winter sports! Also, the harsh Canadian winter is really promoted as so much time is needed for meal preparation. Changes in jobs, schooling, entertainment, technology, etc are almost non-existent in this 60-year series. In reality, Canadian life remains quite modern by world standards.

It's so cool watching all the footage from so long ago! This show's a hoot!! Amazingly well done! Where'd they get all that OLD food!!?? 😳 Old sporting equipment, old clothes, what a trip!

This was a cute addition to the "Back in time" Series

I actually thought this family was quite funny and I absolutely adored the girls. I would have loved to be able to do this with my family before all my kids grew up. Seeing a family connect in the way I grew up just seems so much more sentimental than the family life of today. When Chelsea cried at the end my heart melted and I cried with her. 😢

Very disappointing

So far I've watched 1940 and 1950. I was disappointed to see that the family experiencing these years appeared to be so negative about pretty much everything! They didn't seem to have insight into the trials and tribulations of the 1940's during wartime, and why they had to eat beef heart etc. All they did was complain, and the mother and father didn't even try to explain to the kids or use this experience as a wonderful insight into what went on in Canada in the past. What a waste of an opportunity. The mum didn't seem prepared or willing to learn new things or use them properly - for example the washer or pressure cooker - and complained when she couldn't interpret the instructions and made no effort to investigate - just constant complaining. The father unfortunately wasn't much better. He was like Dagwood Bumstead and couldn't even drive a screw, or learn to do so. Hanging the window box was simple 'that will do'.

This could have been such a rich learning experience, but is turning out to be nothing more than a documentary on whining.

Disappointing!

I really enjoyed this show in its other incarnations, both British and Canadian. This version, however, was terrible! Where did they find this family? They whined and complained about everything! They had no clue what any of the decades was about. Did they not do any research before applying to do the show? The parents were just as bad as their kids! Neither parent seemed to want to try anything new. Is it a wonder that their daughters acted the same way? The only light in this series was the oldest daughter. She participated whole-heartedly. The parents should have taken their cues from her. Very disappointing!

Stupid Show Ruined By Woke Family
kpassa20 February 2020
I've watched a few of these types of series. They started out as very informative depictions of what it was like for a family to live in past decades but then the families started to add their views on how it was compared to how it is today. This series continues that trend, showing how demeaning it was to women, how patriarchial, etc. So it isn't just a depiction of how it was to live, it is also a critique based on today's "woke" culture. So it's no longer a historical program but rather an opinion piece. If that's what you tuned in to watch that's fine. If you're looking as a history buff don't waste your time.
