Dramatic debut film
barasmiller22 March 2012
I was surprised by how much I responded to this film. A dramatic film that unfolds carefully, meticulously to examine themes of the diaspora, social alienation and being foreign at home. While it leans heavily on "The Postman Always Rings Twice" it steers clear from making judgements on the characters motives. Especially clever was the use of each of the three characters narratives to move the story along. The isolated but beautiful location is also stagnant. Nothing seems to happen, roads are quiet, seemingly going nowhere. A remarkable first feature from director Vasilis Douvlis.

A Greek couple return from working 35 years in Germany to a somewhat quiet retirement in a small village, running a petrol station and tavern. They are both unhappy, so when the husband brings home a young, attractive illegal Albanian migrant, like a Greek tragedy, fate takes its' course.
