A more serious look at the story?
ukgreek6 January 2022
I've been annoyed at this version because Fogg is really unpleasant and irritating, and the series is no fun at all, with zero humor. It's still ponderous with terrible storytelling, but maybe I've missed the point. Every episode so far reveals the brutality, ignorance, and exploitation of colonialism, which to my knowledge no other version accomplished (despite the mockery of class), yet it's baked into the story. It doesn't make it enjoyable, but at least it makes sense of why this isn't the traditional telling.

A bit of fun

Absolutely loved this series! Funny, sentimental, adventurous, epic. Definitely lots that people can relate to in it and not to be taken too seriously or compared to the book. Enjoy :)

The first episode that I enjoyed

Truth. I am watching this dumb show because I love Leonie.

Tenant has put on his Smith routine and has been pretty annoying at it.

This episode was very good. It showed heart without being too woke.

Kudos for that.

Around the world in 80 years

Or that is what it would take given how far they moved in this episode.

Seriously this episode was so slow a snail could outpace it. We got a pointless episode about an army deserter that has nothing to do with going around the world.

I'm only sticking with it for now as I love the original story but this is poor stuff.

Episode 4
Prismark109 January 2022
After leaving Yemen. Fogg, Fix and Passepartout land in India and are stranded.

The railway line cannot take them to their destination. Fogg ends up in a village which is celebrating a wedding.

A guide is not available to escort them. Fogg finds out that he needs to help out an army deserter. He is the groom.

Meanwhile Passepartout has a dilemma. Whether to drug Fogg so he loses the bet.

The episode has to differ from the problematic elements of the book. Two different views of colonialism.

Fogg tells an Indian villager that the British has brought them railways. Yet Fogg is the one who is stranded and in need of a guide.

The stiff upper lip version of Fogg is irritating. No wonder Passepartout is so keen to drug him.

The self doubting version works best, the one who reaches heights he never though he would reach. Fogg's speech at the court martial was very 10th doctorish.

The backdrop is fantastic

While the photography excells the storyline fails miserably. Tennent was the best Dr. Who, but this character does not fit him at all. What a misuse of talent...

awful

Just awful. Very unconvincing. Not well written. Not believable. Condescending and sentimental rubbish. That said I'll keep watching. There isn't much else out there. Is this series aimed at 10 year old Boys Own readers?

Slipping Backward
Hitchcoc2 February 2022
The whole bit in the town in India is silly. The court martial and the resolution of things is just a way of making Fogg look like a buffoon. When he is drugged he becomes so erratic as to be laughable. I guess there are to be more impediments now as they head for Hong Kong.
