Mitar, a peaceful man living in Eastern Serbia, starts killing off his neighbours randomly. Petar, a troubled Security Intelligence Agency operative arrives at the village as a negotiator in an attempt to persuade Mitar to surrender.
Mitar ends up in a coma. Police inspectors Tomic and Blagojevic take over the case and invite a well-known psychologist Natasa as a judicial witness. Another story began in 1976, following Mica Djuric, a famous sports commentator.
Mitar miraculously wakes up from coma. Monk Tihon tries to convince Natasa that her daughter Ida is in danger. Petar continues investigating on his own. In the 70s, Mica travels to his home village.
Petar witnesses the black wedding ceremony in the village and meets a local witch, Mikula. Natasa is sceptical, but accepts to visit the witch with Petar. Natasa faces long buried secrets of her past.
Petar goes back to the village where Mitar committed the massacre, and starts inquiring about local customs. There, he finds out about a mysterious ceremony - the black wedding.
After visiting Mikula, Natasa starts believing Tihon's version of the story. Tomic and Blagojevic organize Mitar's transfer from hospital to the prison. Back in the 70s, seemingly recovered Mica goes on a trip.
Mitar is on the loose and nobody knows what he is up to. Tomic still doesn't believe Petar and Natasa's story. In the 70s, the police inspectors are trying to figure out what made Mica commit a massacre in the monastery.
Police inspector Tomic thinks that Natasa and Petar are the culprits. Natasa and her daughter run away to Natasa's aunt's village. Tomic gets more and more suspicious. Petar decides to protect Natasa at any cost.
Natasa unravels the mystery about her mother in an asylum in Slovenia, and becomes a wanted fugitive at the same time. Tomic start's chasing her. Petar finally realizes that Natasa has lied to him about the events from the past.
Petar and Natasa manage to snatch Ida and take her to church where Father Branislav resides. Police inspector Tomic is searching for Petar and Natasa while they are battling the forces of darkness. Who will emerge victorious?
