Lucy Does "Gaslight"
kgraovac20 November 2023
When Lucy makes up for a forty-eight cent shortage on the bank's books with her own money, Mooney ends up getting fired for it. She then gives Mr. Cheever the "Gaslight" treatment so he will hire Mooney back.

What sounds like a simple premise on paper turns out to be one of the most entertaining episodes of the season. This entire entry is well-done, from the opening scene where we see the bank employees working furiously to the ending where Mooney is sincerely grateful for Lucy's efforts.

The part where Lucy feels terrible and pleads with Mr. Cheever to reconsider seems very realistic. The next scene in Mooney's den has a great fake-out with violins before his abrupt outburst. There's also a good joke about Irma in there.

Of course, the big office scene where Lucy drives Mr. Cheever nuts is the highlight of the episode. The eerie background music really sets the mood. The last bit where Lucy transforms the room with instant paisley curtains and her Playboy bunny getup is very inspired. And her phone call to Mooney - a simple "Now" -- is terrific. Mooney's Italian scrubwoman bit is brilliantly executed.

**Gale Gordon Cartwheel Alert**

One of the best episodes of Season 6 and a personal favorite.
