A simple and light movie about a coming-of-age story set in Galicia
ma-cortes1 February 2020
Fran : Julio Soler, is a teen who has lived with his parents in Catalunya. When his parents die, he decides to return Galicia to spread the ashes of his loved ones as they wished . There he meets an old friend of his father, a fisher called Manuel : Antonio de La Torre, who has an attractive daughter named Mar : Paula Charlin, and Fran falls for her. As Fran lives and works for Manuel, and both of whom embark on his small boat to go fishing . Things go wrong, when Fran finds some bags of dope, and he hides it at a cave near the sea cliffs . But the band of nasty drug smugglers to be aware and they go after him.

A decent drama with suspense about a teenager who becomes involved in a lot of problems as he finds a loot of drug. A passable TV movie with script by Tacho Gonzalez and Alejandro Hernandez, dealing with a solitary teen with no present and neither future. The newcomer Julio Soler gives a passable acting as the troublesome boy. The prolific actor Antonio De La Torre, is good, as always, but he uses to play similar roles and his performances bear remarkable resemblance . Decent support cast providing agreeable interpretations such as Paula Charlin as the beautiful girl, Antonio Duran Morris and Luis Zahera.

It packs an atmospheric and enjoyable musical score by Eduardo Arbide. As well as adequate and evocative cinematography by Rafael de la Uz , shot on location in Galicia, in A Coruña, Bores, Espasanta, O Baqueiro, Coruña and Lugo, Celeiro, Viveiro and Barcelona. The motion picture well produced by Ricardo Fernandez Deu, Juán Gordon, Emma Lustre was professionally directed by Manuel Martin Cuenca. This fine filmmaker and writer Martin Cuenca was born in Almeria, Andalucia, where he usually shoots his films, he is a fine craftsman who has made a few and pretty good movies as Flaqueza del Bolchevique, Malas Temporadas, 4 puntos cardinales , Autor, and his greatest hit : Cannibal, also starred by Antonio De La Torre, his fetish actor . Rating 6/10. Passable and acceptable. The flick will appeal to Antonio de la Torre fans.

An interesting movie that started out with a lot of potential that eventually by the end fizzled out.

I will not repeat the plot as others have already done so. What I will do is to submit my personal opinion about the movie as a whole. First the young star of the movie Julio Soler is an incredibly mesmerizing presence in this film. That alone makes it interesting and memorable. Unfortunately the rest of the actors are boring in comparison. The script is on the low end as well as uninspiring. The ending is badly plotted out and very disappointing.

What the movie has as positive in nature is the cinematography which is professional and picturesque. The dialogue in Spanish is unnecessarily vulgar and the local dialects are hard to decipher even for someone such as myself who is accustomed to viewing many movies made in Spain and understanding the language since I was a child. What I hope to see is another film starring Julio Soler with a top director that will allow him to explore and demonstrate his huge potential . Which was wasted in this one.
